@FrancisArief yeah, hes super picky about the music he releases on his cd's. I believe its kinda repetitive, if you made it more interesting with the same kinda beat he would probably use it, for him tho its just a simple jam / practice track.
I LOVE his playing and his style, but I HATE his shitty tone! my god, did he get sucked into some kind of horrible deal? Man, Paul needs his own signature distortion pedal or something.
@crisDAwog i dont know, maybe there's something wrong with my ears, but it sounds to me as if his guitar had a nose, and something or somebody was holding it shut. It sounds to me like somebody's trying to choke the guitar.
@ShadowLancer128 A majik box fuzz universe is his new distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedal its, like the jemini pedal its 2 pedals into 1. Check out "paul gilbert majik box"
@andybanez its not his dist.i actually knew that a long time ago. It must be the pickups in combination with the body. His fireman is FAR superior to his pgm300 if you ask me.
@Kyle072585 Maybe because PG's takes it to a new level by constantly improving even as he gets older...I see no limit to what PG can accomplish with his electric guitar!!!
I luv Paul's play'n cause he has real passion for guitar and a unique mastery to express what I can only follow with my ears cause my fingers can't keep up. He fullfills my guitar frustrations completely!
I luv Paul's play'n cause he has real passion for guitar and a unique mastery to express what I can only follow with my ears cause my fingers can't keep up. He fullfills my guitar frustrations completely!
Young guitar has used this same backing track on their vs. demonstrations... I don't remember which ones, but I think Takayoshi Ohmura was in one of the ones that used this track.
@SilentAce86 i think in terms of what he does there's no doubt, but if your into hybrid/fingerpicking i think tommy emmanuel is just the man. gilbert owns shredders tho. no doubt
Paul is the greatest guitarist for several reasons, he plays everything, he knows everything, and hes one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, not arrogant at all, just enjoying the music, I sure hope hes immortal because if he's not i dont know someone who could take his place.
See now, this is why the man is a legend. Unlike many of his peers he has soul, feeling, an individual style and genuine songwriting ability, but when he does full on shred he will knock you on your ass. Diversity, technical ability, tone, and a killer sense of humour, the man has it all. First time I saw that reverse Iceman style guitar I hated how it looked but now I fucking want one big time!
I'd aspire to be him for too reasons, personally -
1. He's a fantastic guitarist,. His music isn't all exactly my thing, but i still find myself unable to stop watching his videos.
2. Is it just me or is he the nicest person on the planet? He just seems so ridiculously friendly, and it's nice to see, especially on the shredding scene, where there are quite a few egos!
Absolutely, he seems like one of the nicest person ever, along with Satch. And he is a great guitarist, but not the best. I am now preparing myself for one million down thumbs :D
was he sick when he did this?his voice sounds real rough.
i think this guy is just amazing and i think his sense if humor is great i`ll never forget the dinosaur fight he did at the end of 1 of his home vids was hilarious more power to him
what every music teacher I've ever had has told me was don't play with muscle memory - play something from your head, not from your finger patterns. Thats why gilbert can sound quite boring - he just plays patterns when going at full speed. Remember, practising slowly and building up speed is just a mean to an end, the end being you being able to play what comes to mind. Learn your scales, but don't base your playing off it! And learn to play in position too, not just 3 note per string
He has a lot of inflections, you know, slides, bends, and a rythymic awareness to his soloing style. Maybe if you listened a little more closely, you can see that he has a pretty unique style. He doesn't just do 3 note per string patterns, he employs a variety of techniques that make his playing sound anything BUT boring. You must be thinking of Shawn Lane, now that's boring.
Honestly, I think Shawn Lane was better than Gilbert in every percievble way - you can't deny that he has better technique, at the least - but I would prefer him, I do like fusion more than rock at the moment anyway. Hell, my guitar is the same type shawn himself used, a vigier excallibur supra. And yeah, gilbert sounds boring to me. If only he played over changes...
Better technique does not always equate to songwriting(It's all subjective, btw). It's up to the player to discern what they want to write, obviously. He may have had better technique, but to me, it appealed more to guitarists, than the average listener.(Just my pov). I mean, how many average listeners know what a diminished chromatic run is? I'm not saying that's what Shawn Lane bases all his styles on, I'm sure he makes good music. I like alot of fusion myself, Frank Zappa, Weather Report, etc
