okay i got sound but still no video.. I downloaded all the requirements on the get skype page.. loaded skype debian and there it was. tried my camera on cheese and the video works great as long as i dont hot record. then it slows right down and the sound disappears.. skype just shows a black box when i try to test it there. any ideas?? can i send you my p.c. so you can do this?? lol thanks for all the help
The problem that I'm having on Karmic is that the Skype test call fails with the message "Problem with audio capture" and never appears in the recording tab of padevchooser. Do you have a way of specifying the stream without using the UI in padevchooser?
You are not setup right. Verify sound setting in Skype are set to Pulse/Pulse.
In System>Preferences>Sound, make sure under output tab, you are using the right sound card there as well. Something like Internal Audio Analog or whatever. Also at the bottom, make sure you are using Connector: Analog Output.
If you are not hearing sound or not recording audio, that is understandable and easy to fix from here. We'll address that next AFTER getting past the first error. ;)

Thank you so much. I finally have Skype working in Ubuntu as it works for me in Windows. You've earned yourself a youtube Subscription!

Install padevchooser, run add it to Services from system/administration. Reboot.
Now a new icon appears next to the clock, LEFT click it, choose Volume Control. Then follow what is done in the video. ;)
