Many, many times over the years I've called oldies stations requesting The Kids and never, never are they played. The jerks follow the top twenty list as if minefields exist beyond it. Thank God for this medium. I seldom listen to oldies radio anymore.
Oh how do I agree!!! There isn't anything out today that can hold a candle to these kids---and they don't appear to have any substance abuse problems which seems almost impossible in this day and age.
Fine example of what was once very common to California: live, local rock-a-billy and country music on t.v. And a fine example of what is missing from 'country music' and 'oldies' radio programming. The Europeans know better; I wish American media programmers did too.

@prettyoddchild
(verse)
On the corner, by the malt shop
Where the kids go after school
They're never late to meet their date
Sitting at the counter stool
Have a soda, have a sundae
Make it cherry coke or lime
Gotta check the juke box platters
Hey, who's got the dime?

@prettyoddchild
(chorus)
Come on and rock and roll the polka now
Come on and rock and roll, we'll show you how
Up on your feet and then, you hop and skip and jump
That crazy beat will keep on umpa umpa umpa umpa
So rock and roll around the town
Rock and roll the polka 'til the record runs down
Drop another dime in, play it one more time
And then we'll rock and roll it again

Must have been sort of weird to see a little kid playing a double neck electric guitar back then.

the Collins Kids are literally at the foundation of Rock- a- Billy, and considering Larry's age and ability, showmanship..holy crap! they are ICONS!

roscoe008, you could always purchase the Collins Kids on cd. Amazon probably has used copies for pretty cheap.

@roscoe008 Ha ha ha those jerks are terrified of losing their jobs and those radio station managers are imbeciles for doing this era dirty.

There are probably more rockabilly bands outside the US than inside today.
We love Eddie, Gene, Buddy, Hal, Sleepy, the Kids , Don, Johhny. You nsame it. they are played by bands every day here in Euorope.
Tomorrow they have annocunced a live segment on national television from a rockabilly rave her in Denmark.
