@kutstudios I Am not a technical guru, but if I had to guess...like I do now, I would say the video card or on-board RAM is too low.
The 1024x800 is a measure of resolution, so that leads me to believe the video card is not capable of handling it. The error could be the pc spazzing because of the video card.
Don't hold me to this, just my opinion, you should get another opinion from an actual techie.
@Yayakills sorry, I never heard of phoenix-firestorm. I would delete all traces of SL, and re-install Snow Globe, that would be the baseline to start with.

@virtualfreek57 Try checking your screen settings, adjust as needed. If that doesn't work, check and see if your video card is on-board or separate slot.
Assuming you have a separate video card, does it have alot of RAM? Mine is nvidia BFG 8600 (AGP slot) with 512 MG DDR2 RAM. It's decent for today, but probably considered lower-end.
If you have a high-end video card, do you have hardware acceleration enabled? Is your linux kernel up-to-date?
Thanks very much indeed, have just been messing around with the command line, this has saved me from tearing me hair out! much appreciated! great video.
just wanted to say thanks, even though I'm running Lucid (10.04) you're tutorial still works just fine only everything in the directory that used to be SNOWGLOBE is now just called secondlife. but yeah thanks again and if you don't mind me asking, wtf is with all the meowing noises you're making lol?

If you have done all these steps, I would look at your monitor, you could be at the mercy of what the monitor can support.
Assuming you have a relatively fast machine, you could be facing lag from your internet provider.
Are you on dial-up? Try turning off other 'net enabled devices see if that makes a difference.
Try removing ethernet cable and re-plugging it in.
Second Life tends to have high traffic at certain times, try re-logging in another time.
I hope this helps.

how do u download archive manager
oh and can i use winrar instead
funchick78 1 year ago
@funchick78 Select-System-Administration-Synaptic Package Manager...in the list look for Xarchiver in the repositories.
I believe winrar is an exclusive "Window$" archiver...if it is also for Ubuntu, i just would stay with Xarchiver.
Best of luck!

@tyo7864 You're very welcome! I actually self-learned this "fix".
Figuring out the relationships-to-folders was the tricky bit at first.
Glad it stopped you from tearing out your hair!
