Not had many goosebump moments in my life, but as a NY Giants fan, I can say this was one. Well beyond overdue, but at least for him unlike some others, he was still around to enjoy his day. The other inductees better be glad he wasn't last or they might have never stopped cheering.
When you think of how long the Redskins have been down, how bad its been, how embarrassing its been, it only added to this moment. Not just to see Art Monk finally go in, but to see all that Burgundy & Gold come from everywhere for him and Darrell Green. To hear that ovation. It was a reminder to the NFL that Redskins fans are still everywhere and loyal. And if this team does become a force again, you might have to go the ends of the earth to get away from the noise Redskins fans will make!
I was at this event. I was 15 at the time, so obviously I never saw him play. But I did see Green play for a few years as I was starting to get into football. It was around the time of their induction that I really started becoming a die hard fan. And even though I've only seen highlights of Art Monk, after witnessing this, I knew I made the right decision. HTTR!!
I've seen this several times, but this still brings tears to my eyes, because there was NO ONE who deserved to be in the HOF MORE than Art Monk and it took him so long to get there. He was the greatest and the best WR the Skins ever saw...a true man of grace, ability and pure talent! God Bless HIM!! GO SKINS!!!
The fact that it took this long for Monk to get inducted, coupled with the fact that some Dallas Cowboy crackhead got in before him, shows just how corrupt the NFL is.
No player deserved it more than Monk! Bless him for his grace, his ethic, his attitude, all of it, a true WINNER! Finally where he belongs among the greatest. GO SKINS!!
my child hood hero, a man of grace and dignity. Every coach in America should use him as the standard for how young athletes should behave on and off the field. I only hope my son will have someone to look up to one day who has the character of Art Monk!
Such a great moment for such a great person. The Hall of Fame finally righted the greatest of injustices. They still can't take back inducting Michael Irvin before Art (what were they thinking?), but the show of support by Redskins Nation here is truly amazing. We love you Art and "It's about time!" Hail to the Redskins!
After campaigning for Mr. Monk's induction online, by mail, on sports radio, etc., I just had to go see this event live. Big thanks to my wife for going with me, and big props to all the great fans who gave their time to campaign for and then celebrate the induction of this fine gentleman.
As a Redskins fan, this has to be one of the best moments I have ever gotten to witness live. The crowd defined "electric" and believe me when I say this Redskins Nation was out in full force. It was an event and a happening that can't be described in words, it could only be experienced in the moment.
I just wish that I could've been there....I was at work when our local broadcast carried it love over the air and felt the vibe then. I could've just imagine being in the crowd with Redskins Nation!!
Great moment and I am glad I was there. I was one of many who cheered and cheered for Art. He deserved it. I traveled all the way from Orlando Florida by car just to be there and am so happy that I did. Hail to the Redskins and Hail to Art Monk and Darrell Green!!!!!
for peter king and all the reporters who kept him out all those yrs u can stick it.

Redskins fans have the best fans in the NFL. I'm sorry Pittsburgh, but they haven't won a SB in nearly 2 decades. And they put in 90000 plus a game.

That gave me chills.
Either you know what Art Monk means to Redskins fans or you don't.
But either way, that is the longest standing ovation of any player ever inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in its storied history.
