well in a nuclear reaction one atom reacts and fires off a few subatomic particles and that hits another few and another few and it just explodes by exponesial growth

In a fission reaction, which this simulates, a free neutron hits an atom of uranium. The uranium splits into two atoms, and releases another neutron. This leave two free neutrons. Those neutrons hit more atoms and they split releasing more neutrons. This is a human-scale demonstration of the concept of a nuclear chain reaction.

It's a demonstration of the concept of "chain reaction". Nobody is saying ping-pong balls are nuclear. The demonstration is using one situation to give a better idea of how another situation works. Ugggh. I feel so stupid now. Why do I even bother responding to comments on Youtube...
