Fantastic machine! I own one, 15 years old but still using it! Yes , with normal batterys! Ok, i bought recharging batterys. Amazing how fast it is, 15 years old! Good product!
I still have my MP130! Everything still works. I got one when I was 9 years old. And no, my family was night rich, my aunt one it doing a teacher project (something along those lines) and she didn't really see herself using it so she gave it to me. I remember using Pocket quicken for my finances. I wished they continued along the lines of the Newton OS instead of the iPod touches and iPads. The newton actually multitasks, something the iPad doesn't do.
wow that thing was around before i was born! it'd be cool if they kept this pda around and kept improving it, which becomes the ipod touch/iphone! That would be so kewl~
@imanerd36 Do you still agree with this now? Not trolling, I'm just wondering. :) Obviously the iOS devices have now advanced considerably since 2007.
If I remember correctly, the eventually did have music and movie playing abilities. Some say Steve Jobs gave up on the Newton. I say he hated it, but perhaps saw something in it that might work, but waited patiently for the technology to catch up. Hence the iPod and now? iPhone and iPod touch.
Steve Jobs discontinued immediately the Newton when he returned to Apple because it had John Sculley's signature in it not his and because he said that the product was crap, but i think that the best thing that Apple has ever created is the Macintosh in 1984 and the iPod in 2001
Hahaha! I did the same thing. I pulled my old Newton 130 out of the closet in an attempt to keep busy 'til my pre-ordered touch came. I forgot how cool the "Assist" feature was on the Newt. No PDA today has anything like that.

Apple were shits for not open-sourcing the NewtonOS. They sabotaged it when there were still so many developers working on it.
slh950 3 years ago 2
are you describing open-source as a bad thing?
fairyheli2 3 years ago
no, it would have extended the life of the newton os when apple no longer wanted it
slh950 3 years ago 2
Newton 130... that's pretty old. The Messagepad 2100 was a lot more capable, although it would be pretty heroic to describe it as a pocket computer.

i have the messagepad 2000 its huge

I pre-ordered the Touch Saturday, but now I see that Apple has dropped the ability to edit calendars in the Touch.
Love the retro Apple gear!
