  • Amazing talent...

  • @aarondoobz the strangeness is what makes it art, and what makes them an artist anyway. Without that there is really no point to enjoy anyone in particular, or anyone at all because they'd be boring and all deliver the same sound.

  • I love Joanna's music. I love Joanna's voice. I love her first album, Milk-Eyed Mender. I love this video, it's truly wonderful!!!

  • I love Joanna, but on a side note, this camera has better quility then my own eyesight.

  • She's a pioneer like Joplin and Young in the 60s. She grows on you.

  • @miketabc Yeah! Reeally agree with you about the grows on you part...but once the growing's done...WOW. Personally i love her voice aswell. I think it's all part of the magical package (*ahem* not meant to sound dodgy in any way!)

  • last time i listened to joanna newsom she sounded more elf life her voice seems not as unsual here

  • whoa! her voice has mellowed out a lot! still good!

  • Anything in B# harmonic minor is absolutely brilliant.

  • probably already been noted numerous times, but she sounds a lot like Kate Bush on this one

  • shes prettier with less makeup :)

  • i like some of today's songs, i dance to them in a club, but i dont have them on my ipod, because i can listen to them on the radio and everywhere i go.

my point is… it is so refreshing to not hear songs with PARTY PARTY EVERYDAY in them

  • "It was hotter'n hell so I lay me by the spring, for a spell, as naked as a trout."

    ^

    *Would pay to see this*

  • does she write her own music??

  • @1hardlook - of course she does. She is the single, finest songwriter of the modern generation.

  • @1hardlook yes

  • To me, she is the most beautiful woman in the world.

  • i want her to sing me to sleep every night.her voice is fascinating and her harp playing is nothing short of beautiful.kinda takes you to another world ya know?

  • She always seems very nervous on TV appearances. If you look at her perfomances on fan videos there's a major difference.

  • I reaaaalllyyy wish i knew what her songs were about...like whats the message....beatiful song...just dont know what its about....

  • When's the next album?!?!?!? After nine months I have finally gotten over the mind-blowing shock of Have one on me and can now just enjoy it, eternally, never get sick of it etc. as I can with her other music, but I'm prepared for another fix!!! WHEN!??!?!?

  • Man o man, I love her, i think I just fell even more.

Remember everyone, the voice is an individual instrument in itself.

Everyone has their styles of playing and in this case.. singing

    So amazing

  • such an interesting voice, great artist tho

  • HOW DOES SHE CARRY THAT HARP!? seriously i'm tickled.

  • some talent, holy shit

  • She's neat.

  • excellent song writer and harpist. She might not sound so bizarre if she didn't add so many affectations to her voice and diction. I know that's what people are loving these days, though...the more unconventional the more "genious"

  • @Lizzyjean5 I don't think it's affectation, just the way she sings. If she adds them, she's remarkably consistent at always adding them. It's a coherent style, and it's readily apparent that her voice has changed as time goes on. Who can say for certain if it's affectation, but i find no reason to call into question her sincerity, so to speak.

  • @randjoycevonnegut

She may be sincere but there are some pretty distracting habits (if not affectations). Her voice is definitely being made to sound a certain way...you can tell by her speaking voice that there is no need for it to come out sounding like a dying rabbit. Or at least that's the way it used to sound...it's getting to be more bearable...

  • @Lizzyjean5 I'm not sure that she's adding affectations: she's concentrating so hard on getting to the right strings correctly that what you're alleging as her bizarreness may be nothing more than a side effect of muscianship. Weren't the Beatles touted as outre when they first arrived on the music scene? I'm not comparing her to them (honestly although I could listen to the Beatles all day; I couldn't listen to this little elf for long without tiring,) but please broaden your horizons a bit.

  • @talory

I just find it hard to believe that the way she sings is genuine. I sing and play guitar and my sister sings and plays the harp and neither of us ever have to screw up our faces or diction while concentrating. It's just an interesting trend in today's indie-artists. There are only so many ways and artist can be different these days and people seem to be loving whatever is unconventional and even bordering on ugly sounds a lot of the time. Thanks, though...I really like her songs!

  • I love her music, its such a welcome change from the mtv fueled radio music.

  • i loved it! it was sooo soothing!!

  • why does she sound like she has a speech impediment when she sings? She doesn't talk that way does she?

  • Wish I were a harp.

  • How incredibly enchanting! I sat spellbound, watching this.

  • 15 people ate their own asses

  • She is so lovely and her talent is breathtaking.

    Dean

  • What a fantastic artist. So unique and amazingly fresh. Love it.

  • She's so creative and talented it's crazy~

This song in particular reminds me of a lullaby :)

One of my many favorites by her.

  • she has a child-like quality to her...if you listen closely you can see her dance.

  • simply brilliant

  • To those who are bitching about her voice: If you dislike this, I suggest you avoid her first album, Milk-Eyed Mender, because her voice has actually mellowed considerably since then.

On another note: Andy Samberg? Really? A more random pairing I cannot think of.

  • @archer1949 I can think of a more random pairing. Joanna Newsom and Bud light Banners.

  • @415BAY415 Yes, there is that. I am sure that all Joanna Newsom fans ran to the stores to stock up on Bud Light after seeing that.

  • iincedible.

  • im only 15 and i went to see her last week was amazing:)

  • Fabulous! I love almost everything Joanna does!

  • i love her so much it's ridiculous.

  • i was ment to say harp instead of hard

  • u got a good voice and u hit the harp so niceley ooooooooooo ooo ooo

  • Comment removed

  • Has she got a lisp?

  • god damn that bitch can fuckin play the harp lemme tell you what

  • 16 DEAF PEOPLE!

  • She is wonderful. I love her music so much, she is truly one of the beautiful people in the world.

  • Tell me what is meant by sin, or none, in a garden seceeded from the union in the year of AD1.

    Well quite.

  • she is so amazing.

  • Jesus christ, how many strokes did she have?

  • @foxgloves321

better question.... why havent you had any strokes so you can become a functioning person in society

  • great guitarist

  • Joanna invokes an emotional response with me each and every time I hear her play and sing. Thank you, thank you, thank you so very, very much Joanna. I love you darling...

  • i dont think this is joanna's ideal crowd. note the bud light posters. im sure most of her fans like better beer than that.

  • @McHipster well... I lie beer...AND joanna newsome

  • @McHipster from the amount of references to being drunk in her songs, I just as soon assume she's not too picky about what she drinks. Massive huge fan here, too, by the way.

  • I swear if it wasn't for her contribution on the new Roots album, I would of missed a truly talented artist such as Joanna. Thanks to The Roots and Joanna for giving me a reason to keep my radio off.

  • it was perfect

  • what a sweet voice she has...love this!

  • way too cute.

  • magnifique.

  • She can play that guitar really well but I've never seen one that big before

  • @VisualSlug lol

  • @VisualSlug that's a harp.

  • @thenuyy No way, thanks a bunch I had no idea what instruments were, I just assume that everything is a guitar! Thank you!!!!!!

  • @thenuyy The joke is that the fact it's a harp is quite obvious. He made a funny. You did not get the funny.

  • @EatMangos Everything is illuminated?

  • @VisualSlug LOL all fucking day

  • OMG voice is so amazingly unique!

  • i was there- you weren't. epic win.

  • love how she says "thank you" at the end :)

  • She is not of this earth. SO great.....

  • I feel like she's even toning it down for this performance... vocally anyway. Her harp playing skills are amazing...

  • I can definitely understand why people would find her unbearable... after a while of listening to her though, her voice sounds completely natural.

  • this is beautiful!

  • I know that ones reaction to music is a personal thing but Ms. Newsom has pretty much ruined other music for me. It can move me so much and her voice is the most expressive one I have ever heard. I wouldn't trade it for a hundred of the cookie cutter pop voices out there.

  • Great harp playing, but she sings like a dying cat.

  • The unending amends you made are enough for one life, be done <3

  • perfection

  • MY QUEEN!!

  • Playing the harp is such a beautiful talent to have!

  • Wow I think she has a beautiful voice =D

  • weird voice

  • Although I like Joanna Newsom I can see how it would be very easy to hate this.

  • It genuinely disturbs me that our culture is so walled off when it comes to modern music. The fact that people have virtually no attention span bothers me tremendously. Not only is this song one of the best songs released this year, but it is utterly gorgeous. Anything in Dmajor is absolutely brilliant.

Its so sad that people cant appreciate this because it isnt your standard pop song. Intro Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Outro is beyond over-played. Our country needs to grow the fuck up.

  • @youngsunmusic

I was with you until "Anything in Dmajor is absolutely brilliant." That statement and the ones following are so utterly moronic that I'M now disturbed.

I guess the fact that Joanna herself has made a pop album is lost on you, eh?

  • @divegator i wasn't with him for a second. another hipster fucktard preaching about the despondent state of youth culture to a choir of like-minded individuals in a desperate attempt to arouse e-props and self-aggrandizement. please, quit fucking complaining about how close-minded you see everyone to be youngsunmusic through your hipster shades, one day you'll thank me.

  • @dolookmorelike I couldn't have articulated it any better. :)

  • @dolookmorelike Hahaha, that was fucking great.

  • @youngsunmusic "Anything in Dmajor is absolutely brilliant." LOL

  • @youngsunmusic It is actually in d minor.

  • @youngsunmusic I agree as much as I possibly can. This is music in it's truest form. Mesmerizing to say the least. She is a sorcerer with that harp. Our generation is confused on how to truly listen to music, they hear this foul trickery spew from the radio waves and accept it as the standard when in all reality people like Joanna Newsom and others carry the love of music and it shows clearly in the art they create.

  • Comment removed

  • @youngsunmusic And you as an individual, need to grow the fuck up and understand that not everyone in this country have the same tastes as you or relate to the same things as you do. Pop songs may lack in substance compared to someone as poetically meticulous as Joanna Newsom, but reach masses of people in a way that her music will most likely never do. Just because pop songs aren't as intellectually stimulating or as professionally executed doesn't make them any less relevant or great.

  • @youngsunmusic Just recognize the differences then expose them for their need to broaden. Still a performance like this can help, so play it.

  • It was great to be there in person.

  • i would love to at her concert!! i just love the calmness in her voice and the thing that she is playing!!! totally in love!!

  • @DrCONTADOR9999 dude it's a harp. everyone knows that.

  • @smokejc lolz!! thnx!! i really didn't know that!! =)

  • @smokejc lol ''the thing that she is playing'' what a retard XD

  • @DrCONTADOR9999 it is calming!

  • @stefaniessss are you asking?

  • What I think is funny, is that all the haters say messed up shit in comments, but they sure aren't on Jimmy Kimmel performing for anybody. So I think the haters should STFU and go lay by their dish and not speak unless spoken to.

  • i grew up with this girl. shes as beautiful as ever. Makes me jealous she got out of this town...

  • i feel sorry for people that hate or "don't get" joanna newsom.

  • @catholicknees I guess you feel sorry for me because I did not like the song. The music was not bad, but trying to understand what she was singing made my head hurt.

  • @kraigthorne yeah i do

  • @kraigthorne well its the same thing with metal, screamo, and rap but yet i bet your more open to those! you may noy completely understand her but most of the time you can.

  • @coco1fashion metal is a good comparison, because with metal the songs are ruined the second they start to sing (I mean scream). That being said, she is a much better singer than most metal front men.

  • She actually sounds, like a chinese girl :) I dont know anything about her, I just saw this video in "Recommended" :)

  • Joanna was beautiful. Awful YouTube comments as usual!

  • @JessicaClark It was superb, some people just have no taste in music these day

  • @Santi2c

I think he means the timing, and I can relate. Her voice is fine but she's constantly changing the pace and phrasing of her lyrics. An artist does that often to play around with songs that have grown familiar to them, but it became pretty distracting here. Good thing she played that harp perfectly.

  • she should avoid singing. but the harp playing was beautiful

  • weird

  • @theobject001 that was a compliment.

  • @ariiiiigold

Hey sugartits, fingers don't give blowjobs, but I guess your mom had to tell you something so she wouldn't have to use her mouth.

  • @flavaflavs

    You sound hot. Wanna fuck?

  • @ariiiiigold

im pretty sure you didn't mean to ask a guy that question

  • @ariiiiigold

wow good one. because you really use FINGERS to give a blowjob you fuck.

  • FREAK FOLK

  • @nalbmalfoy I dunno dude, this really isn't that freaky...

  • tell her she's welcome <3

  • Great performance!

  • simple awesomeness!

  • @KamalAkaBeLikeKobe i think its funny you laugh at this kind of music, but i empathize for you because you live in the world of fake people with fake bodies and fake music. where she actually sings from the heart. i guess you wouldnt understand because people from LA have plastic hearts just like the stuff that fills their pocket books and wallets

  • @alpinesk8 You got it wrong, sir, i'm not from LA, i'm just a huge fan of basketball and Lakers. And I don't put my opinion before everybody's, i am just sayin that i don't get this kind of music. Doesn't mean some people don't have rights to enjoy it, haha. I just do not get her style. But she has a voice, no question

  • @KamalAkaBeLikeKobe well pardon me then, lo siento senior, at least you had the decency to defend yourself without berating me.

  • @KamalAkaBeLikeKobe the way you stated it, it sounded like you wanted her to choke, or at least that was the impression i got, but i understand what you mean, every type of music is not intended to move everyone. you can enjoy good music without liking it. maybe you dont get it because it isnt the type of music you grew up with, but there i go with the assumptions again. anyway lo siento senior.

  • haha, i din't want he to choke at all, haha. I just don't think the way she sings is movin, it's more funny that that. But anyway, thanks for understanding :D

  • man this was awesome, totally dragged me in! a unique performance

  • damn the singing is all over the place but she makes it up with her voice

  • DUDE. This is magic. I subscribed to this channel YESTERDAY and TODAY, the first video that pops up in my subscription box is the one of my favorite artist ever playing live!!! CREEPY.

  • no.

    just no.

  • @ralphiemelphie That's what your mom said...but i did it anyway

  • @Neuromancer0425 oh, thats good, because she didn't want you to walk the dog,

good job you did it anyway!

    thanks<3

  • That harp was AMAAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • lovelovelove joanna!!!!!!

  • 4th and amazing i love joanna! =D

  • 1:36 i think she just said "maybe bring a friend we are gonna have our sex." lol she says it all casual.

  • @xiamwillx it ourselves i think lol it kind of sounds like that lol

  • @xiamwillx " we are gonna have ourselves a time..."

  • a little different and refreshing

  • 2nd
