I think it's a temperament thing: Maradona had that bullish fire in his belly when he played (I think he calls it "bronca"), he'd want to be in the middle of the action, the orchestrator, at all times. Whereas Messi mentally and literally is on the sidelines alot of the time, he drifts in and out of games.
To be honest I don't think it's fair to compare the two, Messi is a very good footballer, but Maradona is in a category of his own.
I believe most people consider Maradona the best to ever play because he was on teams that had no business winning anything, the arg 86 team is mediocre without maradona and so are his napoli teams, and the fact that he basically lead these teams to championships make him truly great. Also when you see him play in that style gambeta basically dancing with the ball everyone else around him starts playing like him touching the ball dancing with it truly beautiful soccer.
I've never really seen the fuss about Pele (from what little footage I have come across). Don't get me wrong, he was obviously an extremely good player: pace, dribbling, two footed, heading, passing, shooting...he had it all. But the greatest EVER player? To compare the two, I would say that Pele was probably the ultimate example of a person that developed into an great all-round footballer, but Maradona was born a footballer, i.e. Pele was nurture, but Maradona was nature.
...To be honest, I've always preferred Garrincha to Pele anyway (again, Garrincha seemed to be more of a natural born footballer, and reminds me alot of Maradona. Maradona even nicked his standing stepover move! lol.). At a push, from what footage I've seen, I'd even put Cruyff above Pele as well. Judging by your name, you'd probably be a better judge of cruyff than me. :)
alright look i usually never comment but ahh.....this is jus too much thank you disagol for uploading this..I had never seen this footage this is amazing!! Muchas Gracias!!!
so what maradona passed through the english defense and passed the goalkeeper making the goal for argentina. he isnt that.....................actually no he is the best!!!!!!!!!! i got my players mixed up.
mi dear friend ...just a single game with MARADONA was enough to create footage of this great GENIUS. he was more than a great player, he was a genius.

Is it just me or does Maradona run a lot more than Messi?
Its like he is all over the place, whereas Messi waits to receive the ball.
