The Caps also blew a 2-0 lead to the Isles in 1985 and got upset by the Rangers in 86. After this they lost to lower-seeded Philly in '89, Pittsburgh in the Patrick final in '91, then blew a 3-1 series lead in '92 to the Pens, got upset by the Isles in '93, blew another 3-1 lead to the Pens in '95, blew a 2-0 lead to the Pens in '96, got upset by the Pens again in 2000 as well as 2001, blew a 2-0 lead to the Lightning in '03, lost a game 7 OT at home to Philly in '08, a game 7 at home to the
Pens in '09 after having a 2-0 lead in that one as well, suffered perhaps their greatest upset in 2010 when the 33 point underdog Habs beat them. In doing so, Washington becoming the all-time leader in blown 3-1 series leads with their fourth allowed (leaders as well in all-time series blown with 2 game leads at nine). Then in 2011 got swept in the 2nd round by an underdog Bolts team. I challenge anyone to find a hockey team with a more painful record of playoff misery. I feel for Caps fans.
Awesome....I was party hopping that night (I was 18) and I watched that goal being scored at the Melville Bowling ally at 230 am....wow...screw the caps. Dogs.
haha i still have this, this is on a tape thats called "the lighter side of hockey" and was made in 1987. i popped it in the old vcr that i haven't used in ages, and unbelievably it still works haha. lots of hockey memories on that tape
This game was great even though it sucked the life out of me as a Caps fan; but the real killer for me was Nedved's goal in '96 in the 4th OT (I think there was 16 seconds left in the period). Ouch, a rapist beat us.
whatever dude. since you make no mention of what team you pull for, i'll assume you're an islanders fan and in that case, it was nice seeing dale hunter f-up pierre turgeon. keep hatin', we've got ovechkin and a bright future! OV = MVP!
I used to be so superstitious(sp) that I didn't move from my seat from the beginning of the second period until LaFontaine scored in the 4th OT. I jumped up then fell down, because my right leg had fallen asleep. I will never forget that game.

Isles always OWNED the Crapitals
CCampLI 3 years ago
Didnt the Crapitals have a streak of like 20 wins in a row against the Isles in the late 90's?

Lol...the commentary is exactly like something you'd hear in an episode of the Twilight Zone or something...especially the ending.

Back when the NHL had credability and was fast and fun to watch. Thanks Gary Bettman for ruining a once great league.

The NHL still has a great product folks; if you'd just give a chance for once & stop bitching all over Gary Bettman all the time......

I remember this game ended at like 2:30 in the morning.
Getting up the next morning really sucked, I was freaking exhausted.
Still have a 1987 Lafontaine jersey that back then was 5 times to big on me. Now it fits!
