@dreyaleesings you shouldn't 'handle' them because they're wild animals and shouldn't be made to be like dogs and cats, animals that were domesticated over thousands of years
@Daniloveschoir So people should have listened when people said dogs and cats shouldn't have been domesticated? I guess I can sort of agree as now the population of dogs and cats is so outrageous that millions die every day in kill shelters due to lack of homes...But I am so happy to have my 2 dogs 3 cats 3 hedgehogs and 2 parrots. They are my world and I don't know how I'd live without them.
@TheGwynnSmith The fact that so few animals have been successfully domesticated in the history of human civilization clearly indicates that it is not an easy or common transition It appears that relatively small number of species have ever had the appropriate set of qualities to become truly domesticated in the first place. The animals that have been domesticated have been so for a reason- plenty of people have tried and failed to domesticate zebras and African elephants, for example.
I've seen coatimundis in the wild and this confined creature doesn't look happy to me...and what is that dreadful noise in the background? Does it have to hear that all the time??
I'm so sick of looking at videos of exotic pets and have to read all the ignorant comments by animal rights activists. Listen here, ya know why these animals are called "exotic"? Because they haven't been domesticated for hundreds of years like dogs and cats have been. Dogs and cats used to be wild animals until we domesticated them. Now are you going to tell me it's cruel to keep a dog? No. Besides, what do you think you are proving by posting comments on YOUTUBE! Nothing you say will change it
@beatensenseless902 and where is yours? do you even know how many differents species interact with coatis in nature, they are important for the ecology for many different reasons!!! took them away form nature afect not just coatis but others animals and plants too!!!! you call me "hippy" your just an ignotant
@ToPoSiKoSiS i call you a hippy because this is one, i repeat, ONE coatamundi. what, is it the last one in existence? two, i you are a dumbass because 1, if the coatimundi was released into the wild, escpecially since it hasn't had to hunt or learn survival skills, it would most likely get torn to pieces! secondly, you call this animal abuse, but the coatimundi seems quite happy in this video, doesn't it? where the fuck's your arguement now, good sir?
@beatensenseless902 and why torn to pieces? because they had been stole from their ecosistem!!! and you are just thinking in this individual specie and not in many others than depend from the wild existence of coatis specially in the tropics!!!! youre just an ignorant!!!
"but this animal looks happy" "they live more"
if those are your arguement its clear that you didnt even know what are you talking about!
@ToPoSiKoSiS oh of course, i totally agree with you, what with this coati being so important to the ecosystem, it's not like the other animals can, oh, i don't know, depend on the OTHER FUCKING COATIS IN THE AREA? but no, oh no this one is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too important to this ecosystem, i repeat, you delusional fuck. THIS.IS.JUST.ONE.FUCKING.ANIMAL! YOU CAN'T SAVE EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY MEMBER OF EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PHYLUM, CLASS,ORDER, FAMILY, AND GENUS OF EVERY FUCKING ANIMAL!
@ToPoSiKoSiS You don't seem to understand the idea of the word "pet", do you? Being a pet isn't some arbitrary title that got passed down to certain animals at the moment they come into existence, it's a progressive thing. Do you think dogs just magically became pets because the pet monarch said "thou are dog and thou are pet."? No, they were all wild, until people domesticated them. Basically, any animal you can touch in general without having your hand ripped off is a pet.
People who keep saying stuff like, you shouldn't remove them from the wild, well shut up! We don't care about your opinion and plus they life a happier, longer, safer life with people, and plus all animals are wild at once, even dogs and cats and fish, and also if its from a breeder its not from the wild it was born in captivity! Plus what do you think a zoo is? So all saying stuff like that just don't say it!
Ok, to the people saying you shouldn't remove animals from the wild, yes, it may be wrong, but one, they've already been taken. Two, they have a much longer life expectancy in the care of a -loving- human, note I was specific because some people are assholes, than in the care of mother nature. To those saying they're ripped from their mother by death, well you might as well take one then since they have no mother to go back to, leaving them a helpless orphan. Plus, I've never seen proof of that.
@Shithra not having a go but if your going to be specific you should state most have a higher life expectancy in captivity some animals actually have shorter ones. As for the ripped from mother proof look into praire dogs dude theyre nearly impossible to breed in captivity so most of those in the pet trade are captured as young ones so yes it does happen.
@kreeperrock Yeah, Loris(es?) are taken from their mother and have their poisonous fangs ripped out. I can't remember too well, but I think their mother may be killed in the process. It's horrible.
And, yes, most animals from the wild do live long in captivity than the would amongst the wilderness, but some don't.
@Shithra they are very friendly as a dog is as well...had two of them a long time ago...loved them much and miss them...they love playing around with the most of ppl ...excellent pet..
@CarlitosDJmx They sound very fun and wonderful.~ And sorry for your loss, I know it hurts tons when you lose a beloved pet.
I wish I could afford one and wish they were legal where I lived. I know they have to have an outside playpen/jungle 'gym' that's caged all around, yes? I'd imagine such a thing would be very expensive to construct. Maybe one day I can, but certainly not right now. ;c
@Shithra were living inside the house...they loved to sleep on the same bed i did...and the front yard used to be their playground...several trees and plants..u know....i was only a kid...but i still really miss them ..
@Shithra yeah but look how many people are saying "ooh I want one for a pet" like they're toys, and not "oh I would like to rescue an abandoned one and give it as appropriate a habit as I can." And just some food for thought- in my experience, every wild animal wants freedom more than anything. Kind of like humans.
@Daniloveschoir Point of my comment, freedom does not mean a healthy, long life.
Though, I agree with your statement about people just going I WANT ONE OMG. I don't support people diving head first into -any- animal, especially exotics. Everyone should do their -research- before getting involved with any animal, once again, especially exotics, and especially these guys, as they require a lot of work to maintain.
they are so cute indeed, but please, do not try to get one, the only way to get them from their original habitat, is killing theyr mothers, dont let this happen
Shut the F*** up mustangrg, you need to have a cage for them but you can still bring them out and let them play you don't know anything you piece of shit!!!!
Heres the deal, I do not agree with removing animals from the wild but with that said it sickens me even more to see dogs rammed into a kennal ignored until the day thay die, now before you get too exited you must remember that the coati is close to or exceding 100th generation captive breeding which if you think you can handle the very active nature of the coati I don't think it is any more immoral to house one as a pet than it is to have a dog cat or any other domesticated animal . see next
by the way the only inferrence you could have possibly made is that this person doesn't know how to take care of animals because its some special knowledge he isn't supposed to have without going to college when there are numerous websites that advise you the best way to take care of a coatimundi do you fight with facts no you would rather use assumptions and a strange form of liberal socialism im done.
You hate everything I am critical but think logically even when emotional that is the difference between me and your head which is probably filled with political correct bullshit.

@TheEzraGarrison YEah your a know it all just so you know I get pissed at people who tell others what they should or shouldn't do your you assume this person is irresponsible not skilled enough to take care of it you shouldn't insult people based upon a whim. So your saying a normal person who doesn't go to college for 4 years would never be able to figure out how to buy a 6x6x6 foot cage and feed it cat food along with fruits and veges and take it outside when you get home some times jerk.
No, I am not, nor did I insult. Although you are obviously an instigator with too much time on their hands. My comment was made based on the number of people who get coatis not realizing that they are wild creatures who can be very unpredictable and dangerous. You, on the other hand, believe that they will thrive in a 6' cage being fed dog food. Do more research and think carefully about who you may be talking to before you make reactionary comments and resort to name-calling.
@TheEzraGarrison You instigated and I made a reactionary comment I also said cat food along with fruits and vegetable because he is called an omnivore (can you pronounce omnivore?) All animals are unpredictable and most aren't dangerous is you have the knowledge about how to take care of them which doesn't need four years to go to school for. I brought you down to this level because I disliked your pompous attitude about how someone with a zoology degree is the only one who should have these.
Also its not that hard to go to a feed store and ask them to order omnivore chow. And if its so easy to just go buy a 6x6x6 cage that is safe and secure(they can get out of and destroy a lot of things) I would like to know where? And you need access to a knowledgeable vet. I'm not saying you have to have a degree but you need to know what you're doing. You would not believe how many of these are dumped on others or even put to sleep because it wasn't quite what the owners thought it would be.
1. Congrats on being able to site AZA's minimum requirements for cage size.
2. It's not just about buying a cage and feeding, AZA has requirements about enrichment, and the more active the animal the more enrichment it needs or else it can develope self destructive or stereotypic behaviors.
