@MegaAndrewn They're run by the Illinois Dept of Transportation. Unofficially, they're known as the Minutemen. Why the sirens? Some Chicago drivers still haven't gotten the memo that they're supposed to pull to the side of the road so emergency vehicles can get by, and sometimes, they need a little audible reminder. Sometimes, a loud one;)
@MultiMonster69 Never missed an episode. In fact, when my drive belt broke on I-55 a couple of months ago, an O'Hare truck stopped and offered to tow me while I was waiting for the AAA truck to come. I can see why they're successful. They don't pass up an opportunity.
Southbound. If there's this many accidents now, Memorial Day, the 4th and Labor Day are going to be a circus out there. Drowsy drunks yapping on cell phones with the stereo thumping. What a recipe;-)
Remind me to tell you about the "event" I saw on the Ikenhower one late night involving two (2) vehicles flipped over. No serious injuries, but a car and a pickup truck both pretty badly mangled. Happened seconds before I got there. The car was still spinning on its roof when I came around the bend from the Dirty Dan ramp to westbound Ike.
This is a notorious curve in the Chicago expressway system. Not just a curve, but an incline, and access ramps between the express and local lanes. Way too much going on in a very short distance, and, as you say, too many people not concentrating on their driving. (Drivers, get off those cell phones!) I hear the screeching tires from near misses constantly.
Nice video, love those IDOT trucks.

Nice catch on video. It happens all too often, why it is so important to learn defensive driving to best avoid those who lose control.
