Yes, he made me the standard maple and then I got a spalted maple with tulip end caps.... so AMAZing. You taught me some great stuff today and watching the two of you play brings a big smile.... hope to see more of you guys jamming. Just discovered your Colorado playing and that you have CDs out with a new one just released. Gotta go get it Bruce. Thank you for being U, Blessings, Diana
@dianakennedystudio "Thank you!" (he said, bowing deeply) I'm sure Richard is also thanking you right now, too. I'm guessing that each one is made of a different kind of wood, correct?
Thanks for the great comparison, very interesting. Can you help me understand the vibrato? Is it created by you wind manipulation or a product of the wood? Thanks for the help.

Yes, that's correct. I've mentioned this in previous videos as well. It's actually somewhere between F natural & F# (minor). Of course, the air temperature will also dictate which direction the pitch leans more toward - the wonders of wood! The tuning issue is, I'm told, often the case with JT flutes:while they're well in-tune with themselfves, they're not always accurately concert-pitched. It's not really a mistake, per se, it's just that his flutes are sometimes like that.
Oh! Thanks much for this. I will add an annotation to the vid tomorrow with the correct info. Yourself being a luthier who works with different woods, you've undoubtedly come into contact with tulipwood and a whole host of others. So tell me, is it one of the more expensive wood types? Have you worked much with it? I understand it's rather an 'oily' wood, which can make both cutting and gluing something of a problem. Peace ~ Bruce
Again, Bruce - this is another excellent video - extremely helpful. I really do appreciate your great commitment to the Native American style fluting community!

Your Jonah Thompson "F#" flute seems to actually be tuned to F-natural! Did they send you an F minor by mistake?

Great video thanks for sharing ;-)
I have a NAF made by Jonah Thompson in the key of A and I find it also does not require much breath at all it is sooooo smooth and sombre!
My mum actually was on holiday on a road trip and picked mine up from where he works but he was not in that day haha
I am from the UK so I do not now alot about Jonah Thompson, have you ever spoken with him?
