Im so saddened after watching unsung , this family has been through some rough times growing up . the debarges are so very talented . what could have been without all the drama and drugs abuse ?? love them GOD bless them
DeBarge - A Dream: this music composition is so beautiful. The vocals are expressive, the lyrics are like a love poem, the music can sweep one off into just listening to the the whole composition.
Thanks 'odysseynicole' for uploading this song and sharing it! :) Trinkett

ELDEBARGE SAID THET EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDNT GET THE SHINE THAT THEY DESERVED THEY APPERICATED OTHERS APPERICATING THING THEM FOR THEIR MUSIC..... @KrfNYC2 I love Hip Hop too, but not quite ridiculous as you might think, Hip Hop was derived from rythm and blues, with base lines and samples...they kind of go hand in hand. I think when a song is sampled it's because that song was just that damn good. Not the only song by the Fabulous Debarges sampled either......So underated!
@TheMeekgurl Because they were going after a different demographic; it was all predicated on the fact that Wesley Snipes all of a sudden became "the shit" at that time.
One of my favorite songs by Debarge! OMG!! Thanks for posting! I was just begining high school back then! Music back then had real meaning! Music for the grown and sexy!!
im 11 and i like this music blah blah blah..... just enjoy the music no one cares about the age. music is for everyone to enjoy your age doesnt make you special
@thos24 jeez whats with the attitude.she was just saying that alot of people think our generation doesnt appreciate this type of music, but some of us do. And people need to know that instead of making assumptions about us
This song should have been called Bunny love song she killed it and I pray that God will restore all that the devil tried to destroy in that fam this is my fav song by them.
I always knew the beat form 2pac' I ain't mad at cha'. And I always knew that he sampled it from someone else. But it wasn't until I heard Mary J. sing this about two weeks ago that I had to look up the lyrics to the song. I came across this and found out that they were the original singers of this song and the the masterminds behind the wonderful beat. I wish that I was born in this musical era. Being a mid-90's baby is not what it cracked up to be...
As much as I enjoy singing my favorite songs out loud, I can't do anything but close my eyes and rock to the beat, reminiscing to this. No other artist can do this song justice.
Everysince I Watched "Unsung" and heard this song on the Show and remembered it, I can't get it out of my head!!!!! It is such a Beautiful Song, and filled with so much Feeling and Emotion. I'm listening to it now as i comment on it and trying to keep from Crying.........That Family has been to Hell and Back and yet they still Survive. It goes to show what the Power of "God" and "Music" can and do for you.
damn, that intro is so killer. people need to give DeBarge more credit for the musical genius they gave us. so much of their music has been sampled and you wouldn't even know it.
What a beautiful piece of artistic creation and representation of Gods true gift. From the composition to the arrangement, especially the vocals and the audio sonic perspective...Where did the real people with the gift run and hide? Oh, never mind, giving it back to where it came from in the first place. :)
So, my favorite music is heavy metal, but I also listen to a bit of rap--Tupac sampled this song, so I was brought to this song because of him. This is the most beautiful song I have heard in years.
THis song was sung later by Boys 2 men. They invented nothing. They just took Debarge lyrics that's all.I like this music a lot and symphony.SO bad other singers took this song. The original debarge song is a million times better.
Even though they were ghetto growing up they turn out to be one of the most loving family that everyone love like the Jacksons and no one can take that away from them. I'm very proud of them, the most important thing they had going on strong in their life was their belief in GOD and we all know GOD will test you to see how much faith you have in him. The De Barges have been tested over again by GOD and I believe they understand how GOD works now.
Everybody and they mama have sampled this classic. I love this song. When u tell a young person that el debarge wrote the song they say thats 2pac's song.lol
My favorite part of this song is when Bunny sings:
"I need so much for you to see... I need you to love me once again..."
The lilts in her voice suggest that she is pleading for her lost love to understand how much she needs him... So majestically heartwrenching. Beautiful...
wow....is all i can say...I knew that this was sampled on I Aint Mad @ Cha, but I couldnt quite remember who did it 1st...I was like 4 or 5 when this came out
@brownstone65 I did. I had no idea that Blackstreet used part of this song. I have never heard this song. Bunny had a hit. She should be getting some royalties from Blackstreet and Mary J. Blige. I hope both got the clearance.
@brownstone65 Yeah I know what you mean..... That is why I don't say anything bad about Joe Jackson. Despite how their lives turned out..... It was nothing sad/tragic as the Debarge Family. Just so sad and incredibly talented.
if that's Bunny singing lead. she has a beautiful voice all by herself. this is love song of the 80's 2 me n it will sure b the song of the 21st century. i love A DREAM......D I...

@destinee39 im 16 and i know exactly what you mean my parents raised me on this type of music. I often get teased on because i like this music but i dont mind. Even though i still listen to the music of today i know what real music is.
@lyly595 im the very same age as you and I love this song. I like a lot of the music from my generation but it isn't as good as this . I think a lot of ol' school sounds better because it has less cussing and crap they promote today. I think music has lost a lot of its creavity in recent years and no, don't listen to Justin Bieber. You are doing the right thing listening to this instead. Bunny has such a beautiful voice!
@destinee39 U have GREAT TASTE! These songs are what remind me of good music! Now ah days all the songs involve sleeping with a dozen people and I guess thats whats in. SMH!
Blackstreet also sampled this. Most people don't even know the Debarge family wrote this song from scratch. This song was also played in one of the scenes from Soul Food..
This song was so unforgettable for me that I spent years after growing up singing it and trying to remember who sang it. Sock Hops and Quiet Storms and the radio was were you could jam this. It took DJ USHAY in Dallas to really crank this song up in a club. Nothing but slow dancing and kissing...
Yes, I was a kid when this song first came out and DeBarge were definitely the original with their sister Bunny singing.....if you listen carefully you can hear the pain in her....it's a damn shame the way this family got messed up the way they did, it's what you call wasted talent!!!!!
I was born in the sixties and grew up in the seventies and eighties and the music was great, mind you we did not have MTV or anything like that so we had to drive to new york and bring back the music... the only place you could really hear music like this was at the roller rink or a dance where the DJ groups spun against each other,, times were awesome back then.... there are so many good tunes especially slow jams... WBLK after the clubs on the way home they played the quiet storm...
I am priviliged too be old enough to have heard them all...A Dream as a child, & the others as a young man. Music HAS changed, & not alll for the better It's highly commercial these days. This songs bring back memmories of a time when for the artists it was more about the mood that the money...when life was less complicated..more innocent..less cynical...or maybe it's just me...

@likwitkid, please dnt judge all 80's babies because not all of us are ignorant to the sense where we feel that today's music wannabe's are originators of their music. I was born in 1985 and personally can not stand today's music and actually DeBarge, Switch and earth, wind & fire are just a few of my favorite groups. I especially love El's and Bobby's high falsetto voices that make them stand out and it reminds me of Eddie Kendricks from The Temptations.
@brenbren72 Oh....LOL. I know this song is sung by Bunny Debarge. I was commenting on her brother's high pitched voices, though. Because msseante said that she loved guys with high falsetto voices like El and Bobby's voices and I agreed. I can see how you may have thought I was talking about Bunny, though.
I hear alot of comments on why can't today music be like yesterdays music. This song is what they mean. The whole thing is just a throwback to GOOD OLD MUSIC.
I forgot that Debarge did this song and when I heard the melody in Blackstreet's Dont Leave Me Girl, I felt something nostalgic but I didnt know what is was. Then I heard it in Soul Food and I felt the same feeling. When El said in an interview that TuPac, Blackstreet sampled Debarge, then it came to me...
I remember I was in my car playing this song and I had the windows down and this guy was like who is this sampling tupac's song I was like no Tupac is the one who used this song, this is the original by De Barge.
@honeegrrl That's what is wrong with these late 80's babies, they think that their favorite artist are the originators of music. none of it is done with real instruments or voices it is all Pro-tools and autotune. They need to hear groups like this and Switch or Earth Wind and Fire then they will know real music.
@likwitkid Speak for yourself. I was born in 86. I ain't going to lie I didn't know that this group song on this melody first but I know that tons of songs have been sampled.
@likwitkid I disagree with your comment. . . I was born in '89 and I listen to more oldies than music of today. I was raised with older people so I grew up listen to artist such as Al Green, Teddy Pendegrass, and Minnie Riperton just to name a few. I can tell you more about music before my time then music of today.
@TheAithWONDER You know Tupac didn't make the beat? He didn't even choose the sample. Give the producers some credit. They make/sample the beats. And Daz Dillinger is the one you should be bashing, all Pac did was write the lyrics.
@TheAithWONDER It's true. The artists never have anything to do with the sampling. People say "Oh Pac wished he could have came up with this" when he didn't even make the beat. I'll tell you how it works. The artists goes to the studio, there's a producer who usually has a few beats with him. Then the producer plays a few beats for the artists and he chooses the ones he likes and writes lyrics for them.
man...i really wish i grew up to this kind of music, this is a beautiful song...tupac & blackstreet re made good hits to it as well! love old skoo soooo much!!
Damn Bunny DeBarge I had big plans for us...this woman and everyone in the DeBarge family has GOD given talent!!

They need to hear groups like this and Switch or Earth Wind and Fire then they will know real music.
likwitkid 10 months ago
@likwitkid Speak for yourself. I was born in 86. I ain't going to lie I didn't know that this group song on this melody first but I know that tons of songs have been sampled.
TheBaltimoreKnight 10 months ago
@likwitkid I disagree with your comment. . . I was born in '89 and I listen to more oldies than music of today. I was raised with older people so I grew up listen to artist such as Al Green, Teddy Pendegrass, and Minnie Riperton just to name a few. I can tell you more about music before my time then music of today.

@BaybeeD14 Yeah, that's how I am, too. I don't know about this stuff out today and I was born in '88.

@honeegrrl Thats right teach them. Tupac wished he could have came up with this gem.
TheAithWONDER 9 months ago
@TheAithWONDER You know Tupac didn't make the beat? He didn't even choose the sample. Give the producers some credit. They make/sample the beats. And Daz Dillinger is the one you should be bashing, all Pac did was write the lyrics.

TheAithWONDER 8 months ago
@TheAithWONDER It's true. The artists never have anything to do with the sampling. People say "Oh Pac wished he could have came up with this" when he didn't even make the beat. I'll tell you how it works. The artists goes to the studio, there's a producer who usually has a few beats with him. Then the producer plays a few beats for the artists and he chooses the ones he likes and writes lyrics for them.
