  • who ever made this video clearly doesn't know how to spell Byrne!!

  • Im from Carlow :D tis a bit of a shit hole but C'mon CARLOW!!! ;

  • love Carlow :) even have are own language :P ( if your from carlow or know someone from it you will understand)

  • how could you dislike this song ?

  • O'Byrne*

  • Nothing but the best

  • Love Carlow proud to be from there !!

  • Proud member of the byrne clan in America.

  • I'm not Irish at all, but American. You should love your damn country as much as I love mine, Ireland same as America, like it or leave it.

  • They have nothing in their whole imperial arsenal that can break the spirit of one Irishman who doesn't want to be broken." - Bobby Sands..R.I.P...

  • @coirpeach1 " Our Revenge will be the laughter of are children " - Bobby Sands

  • Great song a famous and rare Irish victory.

  • @saoirse2011

they had quite a few over the years, but we never really hear about then because the loyalists manage to drown them out with slogans like 'remember 1690' which is sad

  • People, why not just listen to music and enjoy it?

  • O'Byrin? Never seen that spelling, though I've seen Byrne, O'Byrne, and O'Broin. Might want to check that, man.

  • can we not just enjoy the song? whats history is history :)

  • @iradan64 I don't know what's worse, someone telling you you're free when you're not or you telling me I'm not free when I am. Also, if you could actually ask a person who was killed in a war what they thought of the outcome they might be a tad less philosophical about the nature of war and killing than you. And who are you to say when there can or can't be any real peace? Typical armchair soldier!

  • @Beelzebubbles Yeah dude we're free, human history has grown up under various economic systems, we were only free of those in prehistoric times. There is no boot on my throat or my family's or my girlfriend's, life's not easy and we don't have a lot of money but I feel free and can strive for whatever goal I choose. Nobody owns the Irish people, and there are always chains of one sort or another, it's the ones you can't live with you need to rise up against, within and without.

  • spot flippin on

  • Our day will come for what? We're free, our destiny is our own, no more need for killing, surely our ancestors wanted peace and happiness not a constant keening want. It's a great song from a bygone age.

  • @briancstack We're free? From one imperial yoke to another, it'll be a long time before Ireland is free of the chains of the IMF and the ECB. They're not even subtle, the new owners of the Irish people...

  • @briancstack free? haha. a union jack flew over dublin last week. britain rules ireland through the power of the sterling now. and what about the 6 countines?. my family fought for the republic and died for it and i can assure you they would be turning in ther grave if they knew what ireland had become. i am all for peace, put there can be no real peace untill all of ireland is completly free. from the bankers and ther brits.

  • +++++++++++++++ good stuff

  • Love this version.

  • I'm from Carlow, I love this version of this song so much, one of my oldest memories is trying to learn this on tin whistle. The first few notes send shivers up my spine, and make you so proud to be Irish!

    Well.

It was your choice to click on the video, wasn't it?

Don't blame it on the song for wasting your time, when you waste your own time.

  • Real marching song, long live the irish and anyone else whos suffered! O'brien from limerick

  • I am Irish in America, I don't understand how we could be so proud yet bow down and kiss the banksters arseholes, our parents and our grandparents would have reacted appropriately.

  • @WOLFGANGER666 why did you live in ireland for 4 years if u hated it so much? I'll have a guess.. you were another one of these arseholes who came to the country to fuck it over for every penny you could?? did you work here? I doubt it!.. As for the 'filthy whores' comment... Lets have another guess,.. you couldn't score so had to 'entertain' yourself for 4 years??.. and by the way 'WOLFGANGER666' just makes you sound like a beastiality loving devil worshipper!.. :-)

  • @twofiretwo Ireland is a great place , is de best so if u dont live in ireland y did u click on dis song ?????

  • @WOLFGANGER666 Hahaha I checked and your from POLAND!!! A country best known for its dry shites and boring people. We're not broke yet, and even if we do go broke we'll still be a hell of a lot richer than your pathetic country! and happier too! How much worse would you be if thousands of Poles who got jobs here were on dole at home. I'm gonna take a guess and say that people enjoying themselves was so alien to your nature that you couldn't cope. I respectfully suggest that you jump off a bridge

  • @WOLFGANGER666 lol least we had a boom to go bust what does poland have ?......oh yes getting bumfucked by the Russians again while suckin the dick of the germans haha

  • STILL ACTIVE YA BRITISH BASTARDS...THE FUCK YA GONA DO BOUT IT??

  • proud irish wicklow man

  • same here irish rule im a proud irish man great amv

  • same here irish rule great amv

  • This message was meant for Scoob505

  • Do you mean that Cromwell has invented a strategic scheme on how to fight a guerilla army? By abominable excecutions of women and children, burning down all villages possibly supporting the rebels and other brutal tactics? No, I think that honourable title would go Julius Ceasar. In heavens name why would you think it important to organize an army, if it exclusively meant to dominate and exploit 'lesser civilized' nations and their poeple.

  • @Thriall

Caesar may have invented that strategy (executions of women and children, burning down all villages possibly supporting the rebels and other brutal tactics), but the british perfected it. In fact, they developed it to an art form.

  • The only good act that Cromwell ever committed was that he died, and the Washington Government's Global Empire will be remembered in exactly the same way!

  • cromwell, he even hated the Irish before he was born!

  • Very patriotic song and I am proud of the Irish

    god bless you all

  • defend ireland!!!

  • 1:11........Cromwell?? he didnt begin these problems in Ireland. it was Art MacMurrough that let in the wave of Norman chainmail !! it all started in 1175 !! all because he couldnt stop messin with another rulers wife!

  • @acerb45666555 may cromwell and the forces of the crown rot in hell.ireland is 32 counties irish and free

  • they made a "punk" song outa this by the young dubliners

  • How can you say Cromwell started it all when this battle happened 50-60 years before Cromwell?

  • @shanalgolden Cromwell got the draconian execution of the Irish who wouldn't submit into full swing tho.

  • @shanalgolden Cromwell's campaign or the new model army's campaign was pretty important in the scheme of today in terms of how it developed.

  • @Scoob505 whatever the effects of Cromwell New Model Army on current military TOE, it still does not change the fat that this battle pretty much before Cromwell was born. Carlow occured during the reign of Elizabeth I hence the reference to Queen Liza and her ladies.

  • @shanalgolde True, Cromwell cruel as he was needed to pay of some debts he had built up (mostly fee for his army), therefor he aimed to pinch a lot of land from Catholic Ireland, in order to devide it up under his followers.

Ultimately this added, among other historic occurences, to the modern conflict btween Protestants and Catholics. One could argue that the romantic story of the great O'Byrne led to the invasion of Cromwell.

  • what are you talking about, the 6 Ulster counties didnt break from the rest, they were sold by an Irish man, won back and then sold off again by an Irish man...

  • where can i get this version?

  • <3Ireland<3

  • i love this song....great version of it

  • my grand parents are from galway. maternal name lydon and paternal name mckeown they dropped the w when they arrived in usa. i heard that the name mckeown is associated with the north or scotland?

  • its just a gaelic name , son of eoin , could be Irish or scottish gaelic . The w would have been an english invention anyway , to help the english pronounce the name they anglicised

  • THAK YOU!!

  • The gaelic version is MacEoin , and id assume as your grandparents were from Galway its purely Irish .

  • the gaelic name for Lydon is Ó Loideáin , again a very common name around Galway and the west of Ireland . Again that means son or descendant of Loideáin . The english made people change their names to anglicised versions because they were too dumb to spell or pronounce them . Seems your as Irish as Brian Boru .

  • Thank you so much for all of the information and the video also. He might be a distant relative, very talented man.hope to get back to ireland in the near future! went about ten years ago,i had a great time, didn't want to come home to the usa.

  • I know this song well. Im a Manx man and proud of it. A Manx Nationalist and a republican. Lovely song and Best Wishes to my Celtic cousins to the west of me. Thanks for posting my charrey...

  • @Hagarviking A Manx Republican? That's something I've never heard of before unfortunately : ( Ye must be few and far between.

  • @CoN0R115 .....Plenty of Manx Nationalists in my country thank God. And of a Republican persuasion. Nothing more irritating than a butchers apron being displayed on Mann

  • @Hagarviking Ya, I know that feeling of irritation. Do some people on the Isle of Man want independence so? Like in N.I?

  • @CoN0R115 Lots of indigenous Manx people feel that way. Unfortunately we have a small population and a spineless manx government. But there are ways and means.........hey good luck and fly the flag!

  • @Hagarviking

OMG, is it true? Your a manx? I knew that there are manxs and this is a celtic nation, but I dind't know any concret informations about it. I've heard that tha last man who has spoken this language died in the 1970's (I was on an irish music concert, there was it told from the musitians). Is it really so? Or can you speak manx? Sorry if I ask stupid questions. Greetings from Hungary.

  • @Bloodclub44

You've been mixing up your meds again!!

  • a thought how many Irish were there its easy to beat 3,000 with 6,000

    so how many Irish?

  • The Irish force was probably a good bit smaller, but the Saxons were mostly raw recruits. Also, the terrain of Glenmalure was extremely inhospitable. This meant the Saxons couldn't keep their line together, but for O'Byrne's men, it meant there was ample opportunity to set up an ambush - which is how the battle began. It quickly turned into a rout, however, and O'Byrne was in no mood to allow a retreat. Most of the dead were probably run down while trying to flee. Erin go Bragh!

  • a bagpipe was it may still be clasifed as a weapon of war due to the,, insprationly effect it has on the Irish.

  • Twenty seven civil rights protesters were murdered by the Parachute Regiment in Derry. Another fine example of British politics in Ireland. I'm Polish and know all about repression and wanton killings. God's blessings be upon the lost.

  • The Irish and the Polish have been fucked over for centuries, alot of similarities between our two countries, ur knowledge is impressive radioroidar

  • the black and tans drove into croke park during a match and opened fire on the spectators and on the teams playing.

    ERIN GO BRAGH

    26+6=1

  • long live the irish born in belfast

  • I've been listening to almost nothing but Irish rebel music for the last few months - but I was unaware of this song until today. My favorite version is by the Davitts which I downloaded from i-tunes. Could this be the best song ever written? I can't recall ever having heard such a rousing song.

  • Great and very nice song.

  • up carlow and all who sail with her

  • im from carlow

  • wolftone pure legend

  • I'd really like to download this song, does anybody know where I can get it?

  • Fantastic song. I'm English with Irish ancestry (and from Liverpool, a strong Irish foundation city) and I have nothing but love, admiration and respect for the Irish people and culture.

The British did some horrible things in the past, but every nation has we should remember.

Don't judge all the English on what some of our greedy monarchs/commanders did in the past. Soliders didn't have a choice in those days, it was fight for your lord/master or your families starve and die.

  • Fair play

  • 'Rooster Of a fighting stock, would you let let a saxson cock crawl out upon an irish rock, Fly up and teach him manners'

    Best Republican line ever!

  • this is one good song

  • this song is amazing i started singing it at the white house and they took it as a threat to the pres,(now ex pres)(bush)ps. bush is my fav pres

  • Carlow is the best place going for girls - met my wife there and I wouldn't swop her for a herd of Westmeath heifers or Queen Meave and her whole court of salacious courtesans !

  • Why did I need to know that.. *disturbed.*

  • Because you called Carlow a kip. So I wished to present an alternative viewpoint young spongebobmybitch. Sounds to me , old man , that you're missin' the love of a good woman. Also you come across as a total plank !!

  • I demand an apology for this gross and unmerited insolence. Failing your apology , I must reluctantly inform you that we are no longer friends.

  • haha good responce...'we are no longer friends'

  • Olster is Ireland!

  • Way to spell ULSTER wrong.

  • mup carlow ledgend of a place

  • Tiocfaidh ar la.

  • brilliant song. long live eire a saddened land terrorised by brit scum but ireland will have its freedom. erin go bragh

  • I love this song, but still have not heard a better version than Jim McCann's.

  • jim McCanns version is by far the best version of it!! brill song. Explains a part of irish history that alot of people wouldnt be aware of, the last hardshaw of ireland :)
