Klipsch was an engineer at New Mexico State University School of Engineering... The Electrical School of Engineering is called "The Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering", I should know, I worked there for 15 years! :-) Anyway, you do an excellent review... I am going to pick up a set... thanks....
Grabbed these today.. They do indeed sound fantastic. To the reviewer: I do HIGHLY recommend testing them out on an xfi Fatal1ty championship pro edition; there's no way you'd get to max on them with it... I can barely get to 20% of max volume on both windows and the speakers before it's making my room shake haha. (room size 21.5ft x 13.5ft!) A good soundcard makes these godlike..
@CuzCrostyPwns Oh wow, really? I didn't know they where 1st introduced jn 2000. I have to say I am very pleased with mine, and would not trade them for anything. I see they still sell them on amazon if your looking for them.
@JareduPS Yeah but the problem is that I live in The Netherlands. Amazon doesn't ship them to my country. I can try and search for an European retailer..? I'm still very interested in these.
Hey man, I'm considering getting these... I heard you say sound enthusiast so I thought I'd give you a useful bit of information, when it comes to music playback on your computer you should try listening to some lossless music in foobar2000 with the kernel streaming component, this bypasses the windows direct sound mixer and changes the audio quality like night to day. If you want help getting things set-up properly shoot one my way :)
DJ, thanks for the review, I've been looking into these speakers for years now (yes, I know), I'm not sure but I'm assuming you have an older version that still has the bass line in problem (straight line plug in), Klipsch now has an L plug going into the bass, plus a cable anchor to stop people from yanking on and bumping their bass in port plug and crunching the whole connection.
Also, I didn't hear anything about voice, sounds silly to some, but how does voice sound on those speakers.
Best 2.1 computer speakers you can get for $150. I got them for $115 on sale at Best Buy. It was a big upgrade from my old logitech x-540 speakers. Way more detail in the speakers and bass. This is the last upgrade I will make in terms of "computer speakers". The next logical upgrade would be bookshelf speakers + powered sub + amp/receiver.
@DJAJ101 Thanks. When you turn off your PC, do you leave the speaker on then? Or do you have a workaround like remote control or just using power strip for switch? It seems a bit inconvenient to have to switch on/off behind the sub.
@lennyd44 Well I hardly turn my desktop off so its almost always on. Yeah, I just leave the speakers on all the time. They have not let me down yet. So I don't see it hurting them the fact I keep them on all the time. Hope that helps, thanks for asking and watching.
@DJAJ101 That is the only thing I don't like about the speakers. I keep the sub on the floor. Wish there was a hard-switch near the volume knob, but I guess Klipsch wanted it near the transformer...
the old mods have them and the older one's had problems the one you have and i have are better dont need a on or off switch cuz the new ones have hybrid amps
when you read reviews online, you have to keep in mind who's reviewing it. the people who say these speakers suck are probably comparing them either to more expensive klipsch speakers or klipsch as a brand to other high end speaker makers. these are incredible speakers for the price
Nice review. Almost universal positive reviews everywhere except for a few complaining about build quality. I'm depressed over missing these on sale at Best Buy for $95 on Cyber Monday.
well I would post my system except I have an actual system. The capacitors in my amp cost more than your Klipsch lol. I said it mainly because you clearly have no idea what the hell you are talking about, have VERY limited experience, yet you call yourself an audiophile. You are a TOOL. @sami42ily Yeah I would say maybe as well. I know the sub really rocks my room even when the bass is turned down quite a bit. But the sub does distort a little bit as the sub gets turned up pretty high. So just keep that in mind if you decide to go with these. Hope that helps.

Klipsch, Bose,Cambridge Soundworks, B&W, Altec Lansing, Harmon Kardon, Audioengine & JBL are really the only PC speaker manufactures you should consider if you're serious about sound for your PC. Companies like Logitech & Hercules are okay if you want a shit load of Bass but they do a poor job at reproducing sound accurately. Sound is like a photo. There is the original event which a good camera tries to reproduce but if your monitor or printer sucks then that event is rendered poorly.
against what bose speakers did you compare the klipsch 2.1's? the bose companion 3 or 5 model? I am looking at buying the bose companion 5 speakers. I myself am a huge music addict. I am running JBL creature speakers at the moment but they are not doing the job anymore. I am looking for speakers that give clear low down base aswell as clear treble levels at HIGH volume levels. what's your opinion?
@DJAJ101 I looked up the same klipsch promedia 2.1 speaker system but it say's 50 whatt sub woofer on the internet but then i think their is a 130 whatt sub woofer can you help me?
@Mr505KING Oh sure I can help. The one I have has the 130 watt sub, if you follow the link I have in the description it will take you to the ones I bought. If another site is telling you different then I don't know if its the best idea to buy from them. Hope that helps.
@Mr505KING No worries, it's cool. I just looked up the wireless ones and I think your right, they only come with a 50 watt sub. So I would say no they aren't as powerful as the ones I have that are wired.

i I have a question. Is the power button located on the back because when I go to sleep I want to turn them off, or is it located somewhere else. Btw. When I stop using them for the night or stop using them in general should I turn them off or leave them on, Thanks. Great Vid.
@leafrunner123 It's located on the back of the sub. I normally don't turn mine off cause of that reason. I just keep mine on like 99% of the time and have yet to have a problem. Really up to you what you want to do I guess. Hope that helps! Thanks!!
@leafrunner123 Honestly I have no clue. I would guess it would add some longevity to the speakers. How much? It's hard to tell I would just use the best judgment you can. Hope that helps!
@leafrunner123 I have had my Klipsch 2.1 system 2002 when they came out never turn them off these are the best ive found yet just bought a second set for a second computer enjoy them
wow great review i watched this and the i maid a trip to best buy and man im glad i went to get them btw my dad has the Bose companion 5 and these sound better also
Got these tonight! Friggin amazing!!!! Best 150 ive spent in a while! If I had one problem its that the knobs stick out too far. Gotta be careful not to bump them so you dont get a short in the volume.
Just got these speakers and wow! Huge upgrade from my old Logitech x-540 system(good system for the $50 I paid). The highs are pretty good, mids are great and so are the lows.
I'm mostly a gamer and I use my Tritton AX51's while gaming (true 5.1 surround sound headphones). However, I have a low power and old Altec Lansing 221 speaker set, and I have a few gift cards lying around and was thinking about picking these up. Does the sub give enough power to shake the walls/vibrate your desk and stuff? Also, these or the Logitech Z623, or Z-2300? I'd use these mostly for music/movies. Thanks in advance.
So are these still a good buy for June 2011? I'm in the market for a new system, dropping from 5.1 to 2.1 this time and after doing some searches these are one of the 2.1 set-ups that rate highly. I'm primarily a gamer and I generally use headsets so I don't really want to drop $300 on a speaker system but I also don't want some crap set of speakers. I was thinking of the Corsair sp2500's but they are a bit pricey. Anyway, are these still competitive in 2011 for 2.1 set-up?
All i need was a comparison to the logi 5.1 speakers. I was sold when you said that seeing as how I have those currently. Sub is absolute shit. For starters, it sounded horrible, and after a year and some odd months, it started popping and making some weird noises.
Amazing sound and great value! They have to be run with a decent PC audio card/DAC .They blow Bose,Logitech,Altec Lancing away and any other PC speakers in their price range or higher. You would have to spend at least $500 to beat them.Something like AudioEngines.
@adidobre2002 Don't waste your money on these speakers. they sound great on the lows, but the mid range and high-end sound sound like the music was dubbed. In other words, terrible mids and high range. I just bought a pair and I'm returning it tomorrow.
@toltec13 Thank you sir for advice. I am not going to get them since i got the DuneHD multimedia receiver and now i can plug my computer directly through my home speakers. Sound is incredible High Definition and honestly i don't think there is anything on market at this point better. So i strongly recommend this company DUNE.
can anyone help me out.. is there any way to hook up another subwoofer to this speaker system? i have it i just want to know if i can get another sub set up
You are an "audio enthusiast" and a "DJ?" Yet you have never heard of Klipsch and think Bose is the best? Did you really just compare how they sound with headphones?
@Leopardipzg boy I don't know, they both look like great speakers, I would say go with the one you want, I have not heard the Acoustic Energy's but they look good as well as the reviews. Hope that helped a little bit.
My Bose Companion IIs sound really good to me, but I've been thinking of buying these to replace my Altec Lansing 2.1 system. I've heard they are excellent speakers and I like the way Klipsch rolls off the tongue xD.
Is it possible to use the Promedia 2.1 and the Promedia 2.1 wireless together. Wireless use USB port and the regular use a headphone jack so it seems like it is possible. message me the answer or just re post. thanks.
I have the Logitech Z-2300's. I was going to upgrade to the Z-5500's but I was basically told they are just louder, surround sound version of the Z-2300's. I think I'm going to try to get some gently used Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's with advanced cooling or something.
THANK YOU so much for the review it was really helpful and I just got a pair of these speakers and there amazing its like heaven in my ears lol great review.
Just got a pair for Christmas to replace a pair of Altec 340's that I've had forever. I'm very impressed with these speakers. Considering your sitting right in front of them they also have enough drive to sound good in an average size room with good volume. Wish they had a power switch but the sound is fantastic.
This Guy is 100% true right there. if your looking for speakers for your computer go with those. i got it for christmas its worth every penny too be honest.
OK so i really want speakers that come with a good sub and thats why i was looking into the z2300 but i heard that the satellites werent too good and i heard the klipsch had great satellites but no too good of a sub. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?! Can anyone help?
@lepage13 The system sounds insanely great for $150.The Sub is really powerful. If you turn it up past the suggested white dot level they can overpower the satellites. The satellites are unbelievably clear and detailed. They alone are worth the money. You should not use integrated/on board sound card with them.I suggest a good sound card with good DACs .I have the thicker upgraded speaker wires. And they are running off iBasso D4 Amp/DAC.And they sound as good or better then some home systems.
Part 2 of 2 : The Cambridge Sound Work Extreme 2.1 was pretty good (priced at 299.99, but it's 249.99 currently) but this Klipsch system take my word for it is even better, for this 149.99 price is an insane of a steal compare to the cambridge price.... BUT the ultimate systems of them all are the 5.1 and the 7.1 system from the Creative Gigaworks line.
Part 1 of 2 : I agree with you completely. I currently own one myself but I kinda want to return them because 1) they do sound really good and 2) waiting for them to release a 5.1 system maybe in the future. But I tell ya, I'm one audio guy myself like you... & I have in the past tried out numerous systems, the Logitech Z5500 stink, Bose Companion 5 I tried (they're ok), Sony's one was pretty bad (SRS-DB500) (and the material was horrendous)
mine just overheated now i think thats the problem. the sub just stopped working. idk what it is. i was listening to Maniac by Kid Cudi when the bass cut out leaving me very confused. but it was extremely hot to touch. so i imagine it overheated.
I bought these speakers 6 months ago and LOVED the sound UNTIL... the right channel went completely dead. It had static problems for about a month before completely going out.
I am pissed. I mean these are the best sounding speakers set for the size, but It went to crap! And as I search the internet, I see many, many people have had the same problem with the amplifier section.....
I am upset with Klipsch for teasing me with beautiful sound and then building an amp that won't last....
LOL ! I read all the review just like you......and turn out i got this for 75 bucks . My opinion is this speaker sound good when the medium volume ! (n0t impress at small and max volume )
i'm thinkin about getting these. but i've heard that the power button is behind the subwoofer. too bad they dont have the power button on the satellite:(.
just wondering....do the speakers turn off when the computer is off? or do they stay on, & if they do.....would they like overheat? & when the volume is all the way down, would u still hear the the computer when the software volume is all the way up?
btw, thanks for the review. cool intro.....hope u dont get sued by george lucas! lol
I own them, and I could only get them turned up 1/2 way without shaking the house and upsetting my downstairs neighbor. At that volume they were clear with clean bass sounds, and crisp mid and high too. Great replacement for my 18 year old Altec Lansing ACS31. Compared them at the store to some other brand (Genius I think) and they were by far stronger and better.
I've got a set of Altec Lansing ATP3 on my desktop. Had them since 2002 I think. Still sound great but the right speaker cuts in and out sometimes. (could be a loose connection) Anyway- good review. A bit long- but I may give these a shot. Nice shirt too. Packers fan here!
@DJAJ101- Yea I know, I get shit because I always root against the Cowboys (I live in Dallas area) Dallas is 0-2 lol.
Anyway I went to Best Buy and bought this set just a couple hours ago. If I could only say one word about it- "wow". I'm impressed. Thnx for the review it helped me justify giving them a shot.
@mattdj313 I used to use the Altec Lansing ATP3's. They are great speakers but upgraded them for the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1's. My son now has the ATP3's and he really enjoys them. I got the ATP3's back in 2000 or 2001 and they still rock for their age. Never had a problem with them. The Klipsch are way better now that they changed some things so if you are still looking at them go ahead and get them. You won't be disappointed with the purchase.
@bcarlo25 - That's awesome. I got these Klipsch speakers as well and gave my Antec Lansings to my son too! They work better after playing with the cables a bit- maybe was dust or something... Cheers!
Hey I have a question for the uploader or anyone that can answer.... I've read in some reviews that the DIN plug is very fragile and it's hard to fix it later on. Anyone have problems with this?
I'm trying to decide between this and the z2300. I've heard the z2300 and if it's remote breaks you can't replace it :(.
@silicon43 hi there, i know what your talking about but i had not had that problem. so i cant really help you on that but i have had 0 problems with mine so i would say go for it, these r a great set even 9 months later and they are still going strong. anyone else have any issues feel free to comment as well.
Actually, they are practically identical to the well known Logitech Z-2300. Slight differences, really. The reason I bought Klipsch is that the brand dig some strong German roots;) In terms of quality and out of the line engineering this helps to make the final choice.
I have these and like these however, I don't like the fact that the speakers are on all the time. The subwoofer heats up even when It is not in use. The draw a lot of

@leafrunner123 It's located on the back of the sub. I normally don't turn mine off cause of that reason. I just keep mine on like 99% of the time and have yet to have a problem. Really up to you what you want to do I guess. Hope that helps! Thanks!!

@DJAJ101 thanks for the reply, how much longer do you think it will last if i turn it off after im done using it?
leafrunner123 5 months ago
@leafrunner123 Honestly I have no clue. I would guess it would add some longevity to the speakers. How much? It's hard to tell I would just use the best judgment you can. Hope that helps!

@DJAJ101 Thanks it did. Im going to best buy tomarrow should I get these or the logitech z623.

Are these set of speakers still worth buying?
I have heard the build quality is bad,and that the Promedia 2.1 V2 aren't as good as the Promedia 2.1 V1.

Ya, they're great. I just picked them up at Best Buy about a month ago for $120. Big upgrade in sound quality from my old logitech x-540 system.

Do the Promedia 2.1 speakers still have the power on/off switch on the back of the subwoofer?

No, they stay on 24/7. I just turn the volume knob all the way down before I shut down my pc,

-Do research on speaker brands and quality written by Professionals.
-Drink water prior recording.

BuddyDale 8 months ago
So are these still a good buy for June 2011? I'm in the market for a new system, dropping from 5.1 to 2.1 this time and after doing some searches these are one of the 2.1 set-ups that rate highly. I'm primarily a gamer and I generally use headsets so I don't really want to drop $300 on a speaker system but I also don't want some crap set of speakers. I was thinking of the Corsair sp2500's but they are a bit pricey. Anyway, are these still competitive in 2011 for 2.1 set-up?
GenericName007 8 months ago
Klipsch has been building high end speakers for a long time maybe at least 50years.
I have only had them for 6 months, but they sound much better then the Bose system.
I just hope they last made in china sometimes is a bad thing.

All i need was a comparison to the logi 5.1 speakers. I was sold when you said that seeing as how I have those currently. Sub is absolute shit. For starters, it sounded horrible, and after a year and some odd months, it started popping and making some weird noises.
Thanks.
slosha69 9 months ago
Amazing sound and great value! They have to be run with a decent PC audio card/DAC .They blow Bose,Logitech,Altec Lancing away and any other PC speakers in their price range or higher. You would have to spend at least $500 to beat them.Something like AudioEngines.

@adidobre2002 Don't waste your money on these speakers. they sound great on the lows, but the mid range and high-end sound sound like the music was dubbed. In other words, terrible mids and high range. I just bought a pair and I'm returning it tomorrow.
toltec13 11 months ago
@toltec13 Thank you sir for advice. I am not going to get them since i got the DuneHD multimedia receiver and now i can plug my computer directly through my home speakers. Question for anyone to answer.
Is it possible to use the Promedia 2.1 and the Promedia 2.1 wireless together. Wireless use USB port and the regular use a headphone jack so it seems like it is possible. message me the answer or just re post. thanks.

@dukeman7075 I'm sure that the Wireless just uses USB to power it. USB doesn't do audio out I don't think.

I have the Logitech Z-2300's. I was going to upgrade to the Z-5500's but I was basically told they are just louder, surround sound version of the Z-2300's. I think I'm going to try to get some gently used Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's with advanced cooling or something.

Just got a pair for Christmas to replace a pair of Altec 340's that I've had forever. I'm very impressed with these speakers. Considering your sitting right in front of them they also have enough drive to sound good in an average size room with good volume. Wish they had a power switch but the sound is fantastic.

OK so i really want speakers that come with a good sub and thats why i was looking into the z2300 but i heard that the satellites werent too good and i heard the klipsch had great satellites but no too good of a sub. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?! Can anyone help?
lepage13 1 year ago

BUT the ultimate systems of them all are the 5.1 and the 7.1 system from the Creative Gigaworks line.
dfddsfdsd 1 year ago
Part 1 of 2 : I agree with you completely. I currently own one myself but I kinda want to return them because 1) they do sound really good and 2) waiting for them to release a 5.1 system maybe in the future. But I tell ya, I'm one audio guy myself like you... & I have in the past tried out numerous systems, the Logitech Z5500 stink, Bose Companion 5 I tried (they're ok), Sony's one was pretty bad (SRS-DB500) (and the material was horrendous)
dfddsfdsd 1 year ago
mine just overheated now i think thats the problem. the sub just stopped working. idk what it is. i was listening to Maniac by Kid Cudi when the bass cut out leaving me very confused. but it was extremely hot to touch. so i imagine it overheated.
gamefreak2991 1 year ago
I bought these speakers 6 months ago and LOVED the sound UNTIL... the right channel went completely dead. It had static problems for about a month before completely going out.
I am pissed. I mean these are the best sounding speakers set for the size, but It went to crap! And as I search the internet, I see many, many people have had the same problem with the amplifier section.....
I am upset with Klipsch for teasing me with beautiful sound and then building an amp that won't last....

i'm thinkin about getting these. but i've heard that the power button is behind the subwoofer. too bad they dont have the power button on the satellite:(.
just wondering....do the speakers turn off when the computer is off? or do they stay on, & if they do.....would they like overheat? & when the volume is all the way down, would u still hear the the computer when the software volume is all the way up?
btw, thanks for the review. cool intro.....hope u dont get sued by george lucas! lol

Call yourself an audiophile and you were thinking about getting bose? *face palm*
robm425 1 year ago
I own them, and I could only get them turned up 1/2 way without shaking the house and upsetting my downstairs neighbor. At that volume they were clear with clean bass sounds, and crisp mid and high too. Great replacement for my 18 year old Altec Lansing ACS31. Compared them at the store to some other brand (Genius I think) and they were by far stronger and better.

Any opinions?

@silicon43 hi there, i know what your talking about but i had not had that problem. so i cant really help you on that but i have had 0 problems with mine so i would say go for it, these r a great set even 9 months later and they are still going strong. anyone else have any issues feel free to comment as well.
DJAJ101 1 year ago
Actually, they are practically identical to the well known Logitech Z-2300. Slight differences, really. The reason I bought Klipsch is that the brand dig some strong German roots;) In terms of quality and out of the line engineering this helps to make the final choice.
