Eggman and Robotnik are one and the same. His name was originally Dr. Ivo Robotnik, but around the time of Sonic Adventure, Sonic and Co. started calling him "Eggman" to poke fun at his egg-shaped appearance. So from then on he was dubbed Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
