Does anyone know what year The Odyessy first opened? Thanks for taking the time to share your video with us. I enjoyed watching it. Now I'm wondering if I was ever there. Maybe once or twice?
I used to see Cee and his pal April La Rue at the Apartment (both locations Thurs and Sat, Palette and Stardust Ballroom), Arena, Circus. I went to the Odyssey a lot! I loved this song on Kroq but I didn't know until the mid 90s that that big Tall guy at the club sang this song. You couldn't miss him, he always wore bright suits and perfect hairdo! :)
Yep, Chris wore some bad ass sharp suits alright! He and April shared a lovely cottage/apartment n West Hollywood and she tailored up many of his snazzy Jackets herself. I go-go danced 4 them at Club Apartment.
And it was a lifetime ago .. going to the Odyessy on a Friday night , if u looked the part ,you got in ( 16 yrs old ) and yes it was an eye opener to see the cool lights and the dancers half naked and listening to the latest new wave. I will always remember " Say Hello, Wave Goodbye " at the end of the night - thanks for the memories.
We all loved the club, do you remember Dino doing did you see me by the bus buys? Dino's real name was Darrel Shaw, he was a genius, from his friend Jeff Dalton
I used to get into the Odyssey with a fake ID when I was 15 years old. It was so much fun dancing till 6am to all the New Wave music that as coming out back then. I wish so much for the great days of Odyssey to come back. Can someone please open up the club again? I remember there was a group of regulars that would put on a show dancing to Soft Cell's Sex Dwarf. Those memories will never be erased. I loe you Odyssey!
omg!!! i haven't seen the odyssey since i used to go (and then it burnt down) AND i lost all my pics from those days. what a flashback that was. do you have anymore?? memories.....
My best friend from high school took me there for the first time during the opening ceremonies of the LA Olympics. Another friend introduced me to Grand Central Station and Peanuts. Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories.
omg, this is like a lifetime ago, but I do remember going to Odyssey, Marlilyns and Grand Central Station. I was so young but I had the best of times!
Wow, you literally just brought back the years I am most fond of. Thanks for sharing with us. The day I heard it burnt down was a hard day. I even picketed outside a few months earlier for keeping the club open or keeping the liquor license....I can't remember exactly now. Thanks again.
All time favorite! The Odyssey changed my life forever. To all other Odyssey fans thanks for the GOOD TIMEs. If anyone has anymore info about the Odyssey please post.
Also grew up in OC in the 80's. Did any one go to Grand Central Station (in Pomona?) or Marilyn's (Pasadena)? Those clubs were great too - I totally remember smoking cloves and at this wonderful place! Boys in black clothes.....mmmmmmmm!
Oh My GOD!! Wow, does this bring back memories!! I grew up in OC, too. God, I can't even remember the names of the clubs we went to. There was one at The Circle in Orange, some place in Anaheim. Now it's going to drive me crazy. So long ago. I do remember 3-2-1 in Santa Monica. We called it 3-2 Young and I wasn't allowed to go to LA!
One more thing in honor of the Odyssey: White Horse by Laid Back..."If you want to ride, don't ride the white horse! If you want to be rich, you've got to be a bitch!" And of course, "White lines" by Grandmaster Flash. Good times. :)
You just made 2 OC girls REALLY HAPPY! We spent many nights @ the Odyssey back in the day-smoking clove cigarettes, looking for boys that wore eye liner, & maybe a skirt-dancing to ONE MORE SHOT or anything by DEAD OR ALIVE! Ah, to remember the HOURS we spent doing hair, make up & planning outfits then driving an hour out to LA...worth every minute. Best dance club @ the time, the music embodies our youth & still moves us to this day. WE ARE SO EXCITED WE FOUND THIS, THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!!
Yes I remember Odyssey, Ariel, ect.. oh wait.. Donny was the one who made Ariel... so now I am wondering if we know the same people... my gang and friends consisted of Alexis, Marcus, Robert Taylor, Leesa Oliver, Eric Ferrel, Ralph Lara, Victor, etc etc etc oh yeah and Micheal Ortega etc.. well I could go on and on.. but yeah those were the days...
Just to let you know, I received your video in response to my CEE FARROW "Lost And Memorized (remastered)." Nice of you to think of me. You can only use your CEE FARROW "should I Love You" video as a response once, however. If you use it again, the latter's satisfied and the previous' deleted.
BTW, I uploaded my version of CEE FARROW's "Imagination." Happy holidays.
Yep, I was there and also at the dancer protest to get the club back up. Another fire erupted at the Odyssey after it had already burnt! Someone was tired of the best 80's Dance Action in L.A. I still do those dance moves today! Also heard when the club ended and parents finally saw their wild kids, they sent 'em away to camp. Funny! You can find some of the old guard Odyssey Dancers, still humpin' the dancefloors at Blue Mondays inside Boardners in Hollywood on Monday Nites!
I was at the protest and almost cried when I went into the Odyssey and saw tables on the dance floor and had to sit there and not move to the beat of the music. I was more that sad to see it go, But like the death of James dean. I'm glad it died at some kind of peek and not being closed due to being a has-been club..
So, what actually happened to the club? I see the photos of fire damage. When? What was the story?
Growing up in Orange County, I never made it to any LA clubs, and certainly not in my teen years. I would occasionally kick it at Club Postnuclear in Laguna in the late 80's, but I really wasn't much of a clubber - just loved the music (at least that of the early 80's).
Man I lived at that place. A bunch of us, one as young as 13 would drive miles to go dancing at the club atleast once a week.
