  • wait....is that a.....under your monitor.....HOLY CRAP! IT'S A BRICK!!! or is it....if it is good for you!!!....bricks are awesome and it's good to see that bricks are making a comeback for making instant mini shelves....and i also got my PC style flip in! had to do some cutting and thinking but it looks good! i'll try to post the vid soon!!!

  • I also am creating a practice & NJOY series on you tube Brian. U should check us out under nwsdjs.

  • guess who?

  • Hello Brian, I've noticed in a few of your videos that you had 80s electronic hip hop playing. Here is a set of songs that i usually practice to 1). Hashim-Al Naafyish(the soul) 2).Siberian Nights- Twilight 22 3).Electric kingdom-Twilight 22 and Planet Rock-Afrika Bambaataa and soul sonic force. Practice and Enjoy.

  • good job pal.. I always liked that song Back to basics... keep rockin'

  • I could forget about turn turntables, I would just play good music C(=

  • Good practice session Brian! Cool to see some of these from you!

  • you should be cutting with a scratch record so you can tape it up and see where the hell the smpl starts... it would make your cuts faster and cleaner

  • that was ur best yet

  • damn i love u but dont use a serato keep it clean !

  • Hey Brian, what kind of mixer are you using?

  • you're a killer! lol

  • wen u use serato does it matter wat kind of mixer u use???

    and wat about turntables???

  • if u use the serato box then its irrelevant. however, you can get it all built into the mixer with the rane ttm57sl but then thats like £1200!

  • hahaha like someone said, nice relation to "it's all gone pete tong" :P love that movie. nice mix

  • brain brian brian....stop smoking :)

    nice mix

  • just wonderin y u chose this position for the turntables vs "battle" position. It just works better for you? Ezier to get to the pitch ctrl? What r ur thoughts?

  • For me, the battle position is only handy if you are doing looping or scratching. For club style mixing, I prefer things in the traditional position

  • What type of scroll track do you use? Great practice exercise.

  • hey i wanna be a dj. what do i need to get started? Thanks- Bboy Epik.Cong

  • in response to the mouse being a pain in the ass, you should look into the serato da scratch, its a midi controller. check it out

  • Nice video,

'Its All Gone Brian Redd', any correlation to 'Its All Gone Pete Tong???'...

    -Mike-

  • I remember those black plastic things....so does my poor back! is it true you work out lifting Corona Crates ?

  • lol thats why I use serato

  • Please tell me the name of the first song!! The one with that ongoing riff. I love that song and been looking for it for ages!!

  • Deep Dish - Flashdance :)

  • great selection of choons! btw great mixer. how does it handle vynil wise? i got a dnx300 mixer and its flawless. wondrin about the x1500. tnx

  • It's a nice mixer. Haven't played with all the toys on it yet

  • Hey man i'm just wondering, How come you didnt adjust the pitch in this mix? -Omar

  • Everything was pretty close in BPM.

  • good stuff fella. i like this a lot.

  • hey bri-keep it up man.i dont wanna be a pain in the arse but how about a video on harmonic mixing!just an idea.all the best

  • Oh you are asking the guy with the worst music theory to give a lesson in Harmonic Mixing? HA! I just try to match keys when possible or find things that go together. I could probibly use a video myself on what keys work well together.

  • Yo Brian checked this piece of software called "Mixed in key" just google it as I can't post links here. It basicaly analyses all your mp3 or wav files and gives you their key and bpm and it's only 30 bucks. I can't be bothered using it as I find I get better results using my brain and ears, by that I mean is I play both tunes I want to mix in my head and work out if they go.

  • I do have the software though and it can be usefull when you are running out of steam at like 3am or when you are plaing accapelas. I might do a vid about it for you if I get the time this week.

  • Mixmeister Pro 6 does that too. The thing with harmonic mixing is you are not only mixing a bunch of songs in, say "A minor". There are other keys that work well with A minor. When I hear it, I know it but I cannot list keys that work well together.

  • Rocking serato are ya,how do you like it?I also use it and think it's great,I'd like to see some effects added though,oh and to fix the problem with the mouse have you key board handy and use arrows and shift buttons to scroll, nice and fast.

  • I like it a lot! The lack of effects is actually OK with me because I see the SSL system as a straight vinyl tool.

  • Also glad you got a new mixer as Behringer stuff is diabolical but personally I would have gone with an Analogue mixer especially if you are mainly using Serato due to the fact the mixer re-samples the output of Serato thus the signal will be converted to and from digital many times (Each time degrading in sound quality) for my liking.

Have a look at the Rane or A&H gear next time you upgrade. Denon are good though, I used to use the analogue DN-X500 a lot, great mixer for the money!

  • I've got a DN-X500 that I've been using for nearly 2 years on the mobile rig. Very solid unit indeed.

  • Not a bad mix, a bit too commercial for my liking but never the less pretty good and enjoyable. This is more end of set kind of stuff; you build up and are able to keep the energy with those swift/quick beat mixes. Also try turning the x-fader off and using the channel faders as it tends to give you a smoother mix I find and will sound less forced.

  • Is that a Denon 1500 mixer?

  • It's a Denon 1500S. Rob, I made a mistake. On the $1.00 Vinyl vid w/ Johnathan, you left a comment. I accedently deleted it. I meant to hit Reply and hit Remove. Sorry about that. Please repost!

  • nice short mix bro, keep posting more of these

  • i wish i had a set up like that scratching would become easier more realisitc and enjoyable while practicing i practice almost everyday but the cdj's i used aren't that good at scratching can't really beat jugggle because of delays on the buffer

  • there's something about Vinyl. It's completly impractical but SO much fun to play with. On the road, I use a PC with Mixmeister and have CDs for a back-up. The best combo for home, IMO would be a PC program to experiemt with and then some turntables with SSL to put your experements to the test!

  • Something to bear in mind, Brian, is that submitting a mix to a competition, isn't always about being good enough to win. Is your mixing good enough to win? No, probably not. So what? If you added a few tunes to the mix you have, do the best you can, submit it in, then you can kind of see how it does and where you place against others. You can also get a lot of good feedback, as people compare your mix to others.

  • I liked this mix of yours, but you'd need to add a few tunes to bring it up to 10 minutes. If you were to submit something, sure, it wouldn't win, but I bet you'd find yourself well in the middle of the ratings :) We are our own worst critics, remmeber that. We hear every error, every imperfection, where other's hear nothing wrong at all...LOL. GOOD MIX, keep it up :)

  • I'm not the competitive type unless I know I can win... HA! So give me some time and I'll smoke all your asses.... HA! Thanks for the comment :)

  • you better not join this one! I'm the one who needs a decent mixer!! Stay the hell out of this competition! You know I'm only serious right? :)

  • nice mix bri man

  • nice mixdude

    loved it

  • Brian...look at the feedback you have got, don't be too hard on yourself. I know we all set standards for areselves, however these people like what you did...you are alot better than you think!

  • Oh I'm not being hard on myself at all. I just know that my mixes need work. That's why I post these practice mixes, to show the progress I've made. Thing is, I already know what I want my mixes to sound like. Now, I just need to be able to create them with turntables (can create them with software and often do)

  • Brian, you should be more calmed down during your mix.

  • I wasn't nervous. Just concentrating

  • i don't knwo about 3 songs, but here's 1: LaTour - People Are Still Having Sex. u know u want to play it. in fact - mix it into itself 3 times.

  • haha.. i wanna see you mix,

bach's air on g string, vivaldi's 4 seasons and mozart's eine kliene nachtmuzik...

    try pulling that off... lol...

    btw good mix...

  • Well done , Brian , A good mix !

One advise : Keep those vid's coming !!

  • Nice work bri

  • great mix buddy, keep it comming ; P

  • Hi briansredd i just love it !!!

    Very good mix and playlist.

    Cya

  • I thought you said you weren't good at mixing....great mix.

  • hey pal, just a quick tip, i dont know if u use Absolute mode or relative mode on ur serato, i use relative since i do lots of scratching, i was gonna say if u do use relative and u have the lock playing deck feature on, instead of putting the needle back on the holder everytime u want to change songs....just stop the table, then change songs then start again....no need to put needle back on holder everytime...

  • I'm trying very hard not to cheat.. HA!

  • I clicked play on this vid, and next thing I knew 5 min went by!! More, I want more!! Brian seriously this was incredible man.

  • Ahh you are too kind. I've got lots to work on before anything I do qualifies as Incredible :P

  • I enjoyed it. You matched the phrases really well and it has a strong progression.

  • Hey why don't you do a practice mix and post it into the practice ground for the 10minmix. You are getting better with every vid. Enjoyed it :)

  • Thanks bro, but I'm not even ready for that yet. I've got some flow issues I need to address before I even go there.

  • Rad mix dude. Was that Deep Dish?

    Keep up the good work.

  • Yeah was deep dish indeed. All of this music is from the "It's All Gone Pete Tong" soundtrack, hence, the title (I don't know if anyone caught that yet)

  • I caught it :P love that movie
