wait....is that a.....under your monitor.....HOLY CRAP! IT'S A BRICK!!! or is it....if it is good for you!!!....bricks are awesome and it's good to see that bricks are making a comeback for making instant mini shelves....and i also got my PC style flip in! had to do some cutting and thinking but it looks good! i'll try to post the vid soon!!!
Hello Brian, I've noticed in a few of your videos that you had 80s electronic hip hop playing. Here is a set of songs that i usually practice to 1). Hashim-Al Naafyish(the soul) 2).Siberian Nights- Twilight 22 3).Electric kingdom-Twilight 22 and Planet Rock-Afrika Bambaataa and soul sonic force. Practice and Enjoy.
you should be cutting with a scratch record so you can tape it up and see where the hell the smpl starts... it would make your cuts faster and cleaner
just wonderin y u chose this position for the turntables vs "battle" position. It just works better for you? Ezier to get to the pitch ctrl? What r ur thoughts?
Oh you are asking the guy with the worst music theory to give a lesson in Harmonic Mixing? HA! I just try to match keys when possible or find things that go together. I could probibly use a video myself on what keys work well together.
Yo Brian checked this piece of software called "Mixed in key" just google it as I can't post links here. It basicaly analyses all your mp3 or wav files and gives you their key and bpm and it's only 30 bucks. I can't be bothered using it as I find I get better results using my brain and ears, by that I mean is I play both tunes I want to mix in my head and work out if they go.
I do have the software though and it can be usefull when you are running out of steam at like 3am or when you are plaing accapelas. I might do a vid about it for you if I get the time this week.
Mixmeister Pro 6 does that too. The thing with harmonic mixing is you are not only mixing a bunch of songs in, say "A minor". There are other keys that work well with A minor. When I hear it, I know it but I cannot list keys that work well together.
Rocking serato are ya,how do you like it?I also use it and think it's great,I'd like to see some effects added though,oh and to fix the problem with the mouse have you key board handy and use arrows and shift buttons to scroll, nice and fast.
Also glad you got a new mixer as Behringer stuff is diabolical but personally I would have gone with an Analogue mixer especially if you are mainly using Serato due to the fact the mixer re-samples the output of Serato thus the signal will be converted to and from digital many times (Each time degrading in sound quality) for my liking.
Have a look at the Rane or A&H gear next time you upgrade. Denon are good though, I used to use the analogue DN-X500 a lot, great mixer for the money!
Not a bad mix, a bit too commercial for my liking but never the less pretty good and enjoyable. This is more end of set kind of stuff; you build up and are able to keep the energy with those swift/quick beat mixes. Also try turning the x-fader off and using the channel faders as it tends to give you a smoother mix I find and will sound less forced.
It's a Denon 1500S. Rob, I made a mistake. On the $1.00 Vinyl vid w/ Johnathan, you left a comment. I accedently deleted it. I meant to hit Reply and hit Remove. Sorry about that. Please repost!
i wish i had a set up like that scratching would become easier more realisitc and enjoyable while practicing i practice almost everyday but the cdj's i used aren't that good at scratching can't really beat jugggle because of delays on the buffer
there's something about Vinyl. It's completly impractical but SO much fun to play with. On the road, I use a PC with Mixmeister and have CDs for a back-up. The best combo for home, IMO would be a PC program to experiemt with and then some turntables with SSL to put your experements to the test!
Something to bear in mind, Brian, is that submitting a mix to a competition, isn't always about being good enough to win. Is your mixing good enough to win? No, probably not. So what? If you added a few tunes to the mix you have, do the best you can, submit it in, then you can kind of see how it does and where you place against others. You can also get a lot of good feedback, as people compare your mix to others.
I liked this mix of yours, but you'd need to add a few tunes to bring it up to 10 minutes. If you were to submit something, sure, it wouldn't win, but I bet you'd find yourself well in the middle of the ratings :) We are our own worst critics, remmeber that. We hear every error, every imperfection, where other's hear nothing wrong at all...LOL. GOOD MIX, keep it up :)
Brian...look at the feedback you have got, don't be too hard on yourself. I know we all set standards for areselves, however these people like what you did...you are alot better than you think!
Oh I'm not being hard on myself at all. I just know that my mixes need work. That's why I post these practice mixes, to show the progress I've made. Thing is, I already know what I want my mixes to sound like. Now, I just need to be able to create them with turntables (can create them with software and often do)
hey pal, just a quick tip, i dont know if u use Absolute mode or relative mode on ur serato, i use relative since i do lots of scratching, i was gonna say if u do use relative and u have the lock playing deck feature on, instead of putting the needle back on the holder everytime u want to change songs....just stop the table, then change songs then start again....no need to put needle back on holder everytime...
Yeah was deep dish indeed. All of this music is from the "It's All Gone Pete Tong" soundtrack, hence, the title (I don't know if anyone caught that yet)

and wat about turntables???
loco714909 2 years ago
if u use the serato box then its irrelevant. however, you can get it all built into the mixer with the rane ttm57sl but then thats like £1200!

For me, the battle position is only handy if you are doing looping or scratching. For club style mixing, I prefer things in the traditional position
