what is upsetting is that i've heard many chamorros make fun of our man'amko. i've heard many chamorros make fun of the accents of other chamorros. the difference between malafunkshun and this situation is that a half white girl over heard a full white girl. we need to stop xenophobia. its the only way we can move on as human beings on this earth.
@NutterButter671 The comments were made by JGPO military officers in a restaurant, it was the xeno's (stranger, foreigner) making the comments not the other way around.
@jim206 That's my point; the comments were made by white people and we make a big deal about it. I've heard Chamorros make fun of other Chamorros. I've heard Chamorros make fun of Filipinos, and Whites, and Blacks, and Chuukeese, and other ethnicities.... and where's the news story about that? All ethnicities make fun of others; where the news story there? This "story" was a waste of a news space. IMO
@NutterButter671 Xenophobia is the tip of the iceberg. The buildup is the main issue. The conduct of the Military woman is indicative of the view the powers that are moving behind the buildup, have of those not meeting their criteria of what constitutes a people. Read the writing on the wall.
yes, everyone says things that offend other people. it's hypocritical to think otherwise because I'm sure ms. mays does the same thing once in a while. i've been born and raised on guam my whole life; although i am not chamorro, guam is my home.
Ai adai, we know already how they think of us, it's just disgusting when we hear it being verbalized. I somehow feel pity for them because they are so ignorant. Their lack of common decency and humanity is pitiful indeed. They are not all like that, but the ones involved here are higher ranking officers. Is this the example and attitude that they will instill to the subordinates? If so, then there will be a lot of problems.
Unfortunately, having a title in front of their names doesn't hide the ignorance and prejudices they have towards others, especially the elderly. As a Chamorro man, I was also upset when I watched this story. All the things that they were teasing about this manamko gentleman, I can find millions in the United States, where in fact I currently live, that would fit their criticisms to a tee. My question to them, when you go back the states, do you tease the elderly there too?
EVERYONE in this thread completely missed the point of Ms. Mays's concern in this video...oh my =/

I am a CHAMORRO but I would never DISCRIMINATE another nationality!
Why is it so hard to love one another. We are all GOD's CHILDREN!
STOP DISCRIMINATION against MEN and WOMEN!!!

We all say things that offend other people if heard by the wrong persons. Too bad this one made the news.
