  • wow. that was a fast passenger train. i hope people on board were able to hold on to their drinks without spilling.

  • Good catch there in Bridgewater.

  • what kind of train is that

  • @NeCoNdA MBTA commuter rail passenger train with an F40PH locomotive. Most of them look like that here

  • Speed thru here is 70. Ive been on the Middleboro line and used a Gps. Anyways nice video

  • its not going to go that fast anymore =(. The concrete ties are falling apart and i believe they replaced them with wooden ties from campello to Middleboro. The train can only go 50MPH now.

  • They stopped the replacement program temporarily due to winter conditions, and the reason the trains are going much slower is because of the concrete ties falling apart. Besides, Amtrak Acela trains perform just fine on wooden ties, according to what I've seen

  • @arcticpenguin2350 The trains actually go this fast again in most cases. The wooden ties have been installed. I was at this crossing again two weeks ago and saw a northbound commuter train go rocketing right past! They also added those little pole thingies to the end of the crossing gates to prevent them from sagging, but the lights and bells are still the same (and they still ring the whole time the lights are flashing.)

  • Concrete ties are a plus on lines where the trains can go fast. I wonder what determines when the bells only sound during gate motion vs. all the time. It isn't correlated to when there is a whistle ban since I've seen many gated crossings where the bells sound all the time

  • @TNT314159 They program them via the control box, I think. I believe the MBTA wanted the bells to now ring the whole time due to safety regulations (though I think it's more "classic" that way, and I prefer them when they ring the whole time.)

  • Burger King that used to be a train station? Awesome! :D

  • awesome k5la

  • Pretty much all the MBTA F40PH locomotives use those horns, but this was the first time I heard one sounding like that in this video. Usually, quite a few of them all sound alike! They all have the same engine bell too

  • They do go fast considering that the station is only lik .8 miles away. well we do got a huge station here. Are you from Bwater? if you are you are most likly to see me at this crossing or Oak street

  • No, I am from Brockton. But I DO know Oak St.'s crossing uses a WCH bell instead of Safetran and has rather short crossing gates. I am mostly familiar with the Plymouth St. and Broad St. crossings
