Yes, that body angle not only looks bad, it actually creates drag. Maybe he feels like he's always diving, and the head-down thing makes him think he's really going fast or something. I believe it is most likely because he is simply hanging too high, and pulling close to the base-tube screws up his body's angle of attack.
