What the hell? the version I saw was bruce taking the recorder out of his bag slowly. while swat officer aim guns at him. then someone comes from behind with a gun and says "HE GOT A GUN" and the swat officer shoots the guy before he could do something. to bruce. then they listen to the tape. while the corrupt guy stays beside him and they arrest him then... Weird.
i loved the film but hated the ending (and this one is not much better). The whole point was that Jack was going to testify and he was the star witness and he was dangerous to the cops and thats why they were after him. Introduce the recording and suddenly Jack is irrelevant. Not to mention that is so unoriginal and is a plot device used in so many films. Plus recordings are not that great in court - a witness is much better. For me the endings ruined this otherwise really good movie.
@kidd1023 true, but the other ending worked the theme better because it focused more on the Willis character. Him dying doesn't play into the theme as well. Still a great ending tho.
i think it would have been good to merge both endings by having Mosley go to pull out the tape recorder but as the other guy is running forwards saying gun for Frank to have stopped him or ran infront of Mosley, cause that also shows that not only could Mosley change but Frank could aswell.
I kind of like both endings...the complexity and mixing of people in the gray area instead of the movie slated bad guys in black and good guys in white
The theatrical ending is much better. I'm glad they went with that one. Plus, Mosley had to live at the end to play into the theme of "people can change." I hope Willis gets back to work on the sequel soon because I really want it especially now that he's probably done with John McClane.
@seamanleeman69 I really liked the other ending better too but when the bad cop tried to take the bullet for Willis that could actually play into people changing, just a thought
The alternate ending would've been better than the original one if only the SWAT sniper shot Mosley or if Frank didn't try to save Mosley like in this one.

The original version was more of a soft, happy ending. And this ending was depressing. So, I like the original version way better.

Yea, original was better. In the original ending the bad guy actually was a bad guy, not a good guy saving main characters life.
