  • beautifully simple and simply beautiful

  • Such a beautiful song and sentiment! From the the first time I heard it in 1972 through the most recent time just moments ago it's never failed to touch me.

  • Can't. Stop. Listening.

  • romantic

  • My boyfriend sang this to me today on an acoustic guitar. Amazing, love it! <3

  • Listen to this version off of Aqualung, then listen to the re-incarnated version

"Wondering Again", which solidifies Ian Andersons ranking as musicial prodigy/ poet/ visionary of the late 20th-early 21st century [i.e.- now].

Truly deserving of knighthood, if there ever was..........one of England/Scotland's most unique musical ambassadors.

I hope this happens before I die.

  • Just one of the greatest bands from the UK

  • The beauty of this song is just overwhelming !

  • ˙·٠•●♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ♥●•٠·˙

  • ˙·٠•●♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ♥●•٠·˙

  • A timeless emotion this song instills, like many of their other tunes.

  • Such a great band !

  • No - Never quit! I will always love how your music has made me feel and if I had a chance to see you again, I would feel it again - as though it were yesterday. Thanks for being who 'you are' :)

  • This is one of my favorite Jethro tull songs!

  • saw Tull earlier this year and am sorry to say that it is time to quit, after years of giving us everything

  • @sparhawk3535 nooooooo! don't say that! I've just bought tickets to see him in Birmingham next spring ! gaaaaaah

  • @sparhawk3535 why time to quit, last time i saw them in holland they were as on fire as 40 odd years ago!

  • Helpful tip- If you're really trying to win a girl over, play this one, making sure to sing along to the last line. If the sheer, unadulterated beauty of one of Ian's finest compositions fails to win her over, nothing will.

Throw her uncultivated, passionless ass out, pour a drink (or light up, whichever you prefer), and enjoy a masterpiece that is nearly unrivalled in all of rock music.

    Good luck.

  • 9 days till my 4th jethro tull concert..really looking forward to hearing this..apparently they are not going to play the whole album thru at once...but i'll take what they play and be extremely happy..allready had the pleasure of most of the songs from aqualung live..but as i said...just play..play on..till the chequered flag drops

  • im going in phoenix, tonight

  • froggo66... I couldn't have put it any better. Ian is just a most special man.

  • Tull performing the entire magnificent Aqualung album on upcoming tour! Can't wait...

  • coś cudownego nie da się opisać piękna tego utworu piękna wzniosłość podziwiam jethro tull

  • this is called love song, indeed. you are great european poet Ian.

  • I'm 57 years old, but this song was forever in my life. Greetings from city of Romeo and Juliet. Do you know? Is Verona.

  • @nyfj I am also 57.....and I agree entirely my friend.

  • is ian anderson a genius ? he is someone who really knows how to write and play real music. he's virtuoso.

  • this is the best song ever written..it was written for me..yeah sure....lol

  • my new all time forever favorite song

  • Ian always sounds kind of sarcastic in his songs...

    "Will the years treat us...WELL..."

    Not a complaint

  • one of the greatest songs I know

  • Not one dislike, perfect

  • a really personal experience..those little nuances that make you fall in love, all those tender, little feelings are so sweetly expressed..oh, what can i say..as if ian put a finger on my heart and wrote what i feel for the girl i love..

she's now my wife, and this is one of our most favourite songs..

    Tull rocks! Cheers from India!

  • just listen to the piano in the background when ian sings "and it's only the giving that makes you what you are"...magical!

  • oh, so lovely!!

  • This is a great song.

That's all there is to it.

    Take Care

    Have Fun

    B.L. Morgan

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

  • Jethro Tull makes me want to pole dance with my broom

    >0 dislikes

    fuck yeah.

  • @Pasalaqcua

I would feel great sorrow for someone so detached from their humanity as to 'thumbs down' this gem.

ALong with Built to Spill's 'Twin Falls', two of the best rock short stories ever.

  • @bgrrrr : Well said!

  • This song has to be one of my favs from Tull...Wow all the nights listening in the 70's tripping...Whew...it's good to be alive and listen to this stuff again!

  • Brilliant.

  • It´s a simple song and ... just beautiful :D

  • Loved it then ,love it today ...' and it's only the giving that makes what you are....'

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed.. Long live Ian Anderson !

  • Loaded with heavy U.K. sensory chords throughout, the message of kindness propels this tune into classicland !

  • and I might add that as the season is getting closer: never to old to rock n roll and never too young to ...

  • Thanks for posting Aqualung 1989

  • a love song from 70's.... the idyllic love song -" Yeah!!!!" - that made the poets sing, the open hearts swell and the [last and best kept blue note] lovers rejoice while all remembering the knowledge that it's only the giving that makes us what we are. x

  • sencillo, pero profundo

  • Aqualung is one the most underrated albums of all time, also one of the best.

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and recorded!

  • if only this songs bliss lasted longer

    I LOVE YOU TULL!!!!

  • Jethro Tull has given me more than 35 years of the best peices of music ever written.

  • I want to be so deep inside you Omg hold me as I Hold you

  • Does Jethro Tull have a chilled-out slow instrumental song with flute?

I'm searching for a song that I have no idea who performs it.

  • @RudyRockwell A lot, I guess. You might want to check out their Christmas Album, there's a lot of these tunes to be found. Maybe you'll find what you search and discover some great music on the way :)

  • @RudyRockwell You may be thinking of "Kim" by Steve Hackett.

  • @crescentfreshbret

I appreciate the response. I lucked out and found the song I was looking for. It was "Color My World" by Chicago. I was wrong about the song being entirely instrumental, obviously.

  • im tasting the...smell.....chuckle (heh heh)

  • this is probably my absolute favorite jethro tull song. wow. if i had a 1000th of the talent that ian anderson does, i'd die a happy man...

  • tammy

  • One of my all time favourites - thanks a lot for posting!

  • ballad of ballads

  • I still get chills after all these years when the keyboard come in -- the prettiest short song ever -- why couldn't it have been 5 mins long !!??

  • Don't you think that if it was longer it would kind of lose some of its beauty? When a song goes on too long... it loses the point and the prettiness...

Its amazing as it is and as such, there is no need for it to be longer really... is there?

  • no- you do understand what it is there for

  • @coz1134 Not really true.

    (Thick as a Brick)

  • smffeb58 - I have to listen to it 5 times in a row it's so good! Try that for your five minute fix of this song. ; )

    5 Stars.

  • One of the greatest little diddies from one of the best bands and songmeisters ever. I fanatasize about the woman in the kitchen,

"As she floats in the kitchen,

    I'm tasting the smell

of toast as the butter runs.

Then she comes, spilling crumbs on the bed..." Thank you Ian. Seen them about 6 times, always an impeccable show.

  • awesome super-duper wonderful music. have no words to splain ^0^

  • Jethro Tull will withstand the test of time and be remembered as classical artists of their generation.

Unlike many other great bands, their live performances live up to the standards that they have set in their studio performances. Certainly one of the very best concerts that I have ever had the good fortune to attend.

  • Is the same as *one white duck on the wall* isn't it guys???

  • I forgot what a beautiful melody this is.

  • was homeless once..ironically, had aqualung among my only posessions..i would play it at the local soup kitchen; nobody ever said 'turn that off ' in fact it kept me stocked with small food items from folks who wanted to here it...funny to think back now.....

  • Great story. Thanks.

  • @rawdealist

Hahaha, I had the same thing. Homeless in Calgary, and I had this album. It kept me company.

It's amazing how different lyrics become when you're on the streets

  • I always cry

    Robin

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • Remarkable sound quality--thank you.

  • best song ever written about sex...

  • I agree with That2007 -- Aqualung's best moments were arguably those little acoustic ditties (though I loved the acoustic middle of the song Aqualung as well). As a young person discovering Jethro Tull in the early 70s, I was blown away by Ian Anderson's ability to move between abrasive (but wonderful) rockers and those gossamer, gentle acoustic songs. Living in the Past had a great assortment of such tunes. BTW, John Evans' piano playing on many of those songs is sorely unsung.

  • @froggo66 definately, im so glad my dad turned me on to good music.

  • @froggo66 john evan is an incredible talent, and probably one of the humblest people ever. a true gem.

  • Oh, so he killed an Indian or three?

  • @TheEndKing and who cares about the indians, just liosten to the music

  • @froggo66 Well said my friend, it is his ability to produce hard, rock songs, amid the gentle pastoral acoustic songs, that set Ian Anderson apart from all the rest, that makes him such a modest, unassuming genius.

  • @froggo66 Well spoken my good man, couldn't agree with you more.

  • Agree. Jethro Tull is and still the all time band of the century. Wondering aloud...........how on earth did Ian inspired to write this song. It's so beautiful and you never get bored on listening over and over again. Young artist can never match old timers like him who wrote from the bottom of his heart.

  • favorite part about this album is my favorite 3 songs are under 2 minutes

  • I must've played this song fifteen times straight before moving on, the first time I heard it. It's addictive. :)

  • beautiful song. the way it ends is so great

  • Every time I listen to Aqualung I have to hear this song 3 or 4 times before I can move on. Truly one of the grandest slices of truth and beauty to ever be breathed out of a 2 minute window.

Ian Anderson knows the meaning of life, to be sure.

  • its only the giving that makes you what you are

  • saint: Your Number 6 doesnt fit really ^^

  • My 6 all-time favourite bands

    1. Beatles 2. Led Zeppelin 3. The Who 4. Rolling Stones 5. Jethro Tull 6. Pussycat Dolls

  • 6.WTF Pussycat Dolls

Anyway the slow songs of Jethro Tull are fantastic.

  • Ian Anderson is who second-rates like John Mayer or Dave Matthews wish they could be.

    Genuine. AND talented...

  • This is two minutes of sheer bliss. Few beautiful words woven into silken music. I can listen to this one endlessly.

  • This song is tender, erotic and haunting. Light, lyrical. I love it.

Can anyone thinking of a modern song that evokes this feeling?

I would love to hear it if you do know of such a pop composition.. None springs to mind. Most of the modern stuff seems carnal by comparison.

  • Went to Tull concert in Memphis about 1987. Was as good as it gets. They had recently released Grammy winning album "Crest of a Knave" and played all the songs from that album, plus all the old favorites. Anderson is great performer on stage. Always hated them categorizing Tull as "heavy metal" because as this song shows they played every style BECAUSE THEY JUST DID IT BETTER THAN ALMOST ANYONE - THEN OR NOW.

  • cant explain feeling

  • Love the piano entrance, gives me that musical

  • From the stand point of music & art, I feel that songs played by JTull of the 70's are much better than those of current bands in this new millenium. Not much room left for them, or they are simply not compatible ? Wish I can go back thru' the time tunnel and feast myself on JTull performance

  • Great song , its ages since I last heard it, brings back lots of memories, of my youth.

  • this was first! before wondring alive

  • How can anyone not be a huge JT Fan...Great Track...Reminds me a lot of side one of the Living in the Past Album, which I love

  • Haha I know right? Thanks to the sequel/prequel of this song on that album.

    JT is a legend.

  • what a gem! Check out Wondr'ing Again on the Living in the Past Album.

  • grew up with these guys...seen them many many times...No one like Ian...one of the most talented musicians I have ever seen...thanks

  • as she floats in the kitchen I'm listening' to this song.....

  • what a bloody good song.

  • Thanks Aqualung1989 for posting this song as recorded on the album. What a wonderful song, and true, too. If life is a long song, I wish this was mine.

  • Brilliant, lyrically, musically, acoustically, this is an Ian masterpiece!

  • I agree with you latta4. It's a real masterpiece. Never seen him perform but was crazy about him back in the 70's

  • one of the few concerts that i went to was Jethro Tull

all kinds of fun... and amazing

    72

  • I fell in love to this song - and yes, the years have treated us well!

  • great song
