I was just wondering the same thing: "I did get a call from one senator, a Democrat, 'Lie', a good Democrat, who said he was now going to vote to convict him of obstruction of justice."
Apologies, as I have nothing intellectual to add, but:
Is it just me, or does Charlie Rose appear to be a little.. merry, shall we say?
If you forward to around 4:48, Rose begins to pull some rather unusual facial expressions, at which Hitchens pokes out his tongue and dons a little grin.. Takes one to know one, perhaps?!
Just thought I'd point it out as it made me chuckle.
Jgmcgill, Hitchens refers to himself as a leftist because in this period he was still a socialist....he makes mention of it on one of the earlier Charlie Rose interviews, perhaps in one of this series.
He has since taken the stance of defending the Iraq War, becoming more associated with the political right....but he in fact loathes Bush, think he handled the war incorrectly, despises the Christian right and their supposed values, etcetera. You should see him talk about Jerry Falwell...
Of course, I was referring to Charlie Rose not Hitchens. Hitchens confirms to me his principled form of argument. He is indeed a hero of mine although I'm puzzled by his self characterization as a left of left leftist.
I wish I had seen this back in April 99. The fact that he is here defending Clinton like this is just disgusting. I cannot comprehend it. After seeing this interview, I think I understand the bags under this guys eyes... he's an unprincipled leftist (of the religious left kind, no doubt) who doesn't understand hypocrisy even when it rolls the world over like a steam roller. Enlightening video. Thanks for posting it!
The end of this clip made me laugh. Charlie just couldn't think of a way to defend Clinton anymore.

Hitchens is an honest man.

Bullshit. How on earth could you arrive at that, if you know anything about what he's talking about?
