  • bromance.

  • Wow

  • Also, I know Billy Joel sings this song, but it sure sounds like Tom Hanks is singing it in this version. I know the cast are background singers to this version of the song with Billy Joel, but if you listen to where the word "chance" is mentioned at 1:11, it sure sounds like Tom Hanks saying it! Maybe he really did sing this version?

  • I'm obsessed with Tom Hanks, so I asked for Bosom Buddies for Christmas. I got the complete set and finished watching all of the episodes a few days ago. I'm only 14, but I lover this show!

  • Even for back then when themes were much longer this opening is still way too damn long.

  • Comment removed

  • By the looks of this video it doesn't look like Tom likes the blonde haired girl, he's pretty occupied with his male friends....

  • Tom Hanks at 1:13 looks like Lt. Dan when he entered his hippie phase in Forrest Gump...talk about foresight.

  • how can you go wrong with tom hanks & billy joel?

  • I mentioned this show to my girlfriend who says she never heard of it. I think it's because she's only been going with old guys like myself. this show came out before we discovered fire. I think it was when we were working on that wheel thing. (whatever).

  • I am here Because of "Work It!"

  • Loved this theme and show.

  • Tom Hanks had an epic afro.

  • it's a bummer that they couldn't use this theme for the dvd and had to use the alternate one, oh well at least i finally have the whole series thanks to big lots for only 6 a season! 12 bucks for the whole show hot damn!!!!

  • Holland Taylor must be a vampire. She looks the same here as she does on 2 and a half men.

  • i thought the opening to this show was so cool and funny. brings back memories, the 80s was awesome time.

  • I miss this show, thank you for sharing!!

  • thats kool that Billy Joel let them use his song. Best theme song ever.

  • This show only lasted 2 seasons? I wonder why!

  • Tom Hanks = global superstar

    Peter Scolari....... =........Peter Scolari

    Oh well, 1 outta 2 ain't bad

  • Because when you say See its perfectly normal thats always the truth.....oh and cracked i guess

  • I just love how all 800s sitcoms exposited the plot before the theme song!

  • My life is now complete.

  • Thanks Cracked

  • Did they really put absolutely no effort at hiding their masculine voices or did SeanBaby of Cracked.com fame just over-exagerate a weird element of a show again?

  • @Popcultureguy3000 He was honestly not exaggerating, they literally still talk like dudes. I was wondering the same thing and found the pilot and skipped around to parts where they dressed like women and umm yeah lol

  • @TheScienceguy77 Why hasn't anyone posted that quote about the gullibility of the hotel owners from the column yet?

  • Im pretty sure there making a new show with a similar plot on abc.

  • cracked!!

because for some reason dumbasses thumbs this comment up

  • CRACKED WUZ HERE FOR THE4TH TIME

  • Ah I remember, this is one of the intros, but watching on USA there was an alternate intro.

  • i LOVE how its the whole thing! thank you ! xox Love the 80s

  • The good looking chik at 1:27 is Dan Aykroyd's wife.....

    for like 30 years now.

Damn, he sure did jump on that fast, I don't blame him.

  • this is essentially the story of barney frank and his 'friend,' except instead of it being a hotel, it's his house with an underage gay brothel in the basement

  • TOM HANKS!

  • Vintage Tom Hanks

  • WHy doesnt the singer sound like Billie? Joel Is It Billie Joel who Sings This?

  • @Alex03000351 It's his song, but I think they had to do a different version after the pilot so they wouldn't have to pay Billy as much. And I think I read somewhere it's actually Tom Hanks singing here.

  • @Alex03000351 I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that maybe the reason it doesn't sound like "Billie" Joel is because it's not him singing it.

  • When I was very young, I didn't realize that this was an actual song. I always equated it with this show.

  • Peter is now in the Music Man but looks like he's had a stroke since then :(

  • @volleychickyr300 I saw that! My mom was actually in the show with him!

  • I was going to ask why you removed my original comment. But, I know why. I called you out. And, you didn't like it. Funny.

  • if you are going to set a show in ny and film it in la please use a park that does not have palm trees like we see at 0:40

  • @KingDT2007 Another one trying to "sqeeze a lemon" huh? So you caught that. Big deal. You don't get an award for that.

  • @KingDT2007 LOL

  • I'm just glad someone has it with the proper music. Stupid DVD release removed Billy Joel.

  • I loved watching this show. They need to make more comedies like this or is it that I love Tom Hanks!

  • Pardo Patrol got me here! "So your new movie, LARRY CROWNE, is the one with Peter Scolari ..."

  • pardo patrol...team coco...anyone?

  • I love watching the daily show, seeing a reference made on the show then heading to youtube to check it out, only to find that everyone else is doing the same thing.

  • O Jon Stewart haha

  • Tom Hanks on The Daily Show!

  • Just watched Tom Hanks on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and he mentioned this show so I looked it up. I probably don't remember it because this was about a year before I was born!!! Hanks wasn't kidding about "not worrying about the shots and just having fun." That seems like an accurate description of the filming this show! The good ol' days!

  • john stewart told me too...

  • john stewart want you to see the Beckbak Bros ..because it's sexy hot action

  • I'm Here because of Jon Stewart!!!

  • @plainswalkerzero I'm pretty sure you are here because Tom Hanks

  • @plainswalkerzero... me to!!!

  • @plainswalkerzero I'm here because of Cracked.com!

  • @plainswalkerzero I'm here because of Seanbaby!!!!

  • Donna Dixon...yummy. ;-P

  • So in the opening shot, they are walking through a park that has palm tree's? Never saw this here in NYC.

  • Loved this show. Knew the song by heart I would of never thought that many years later I would be watching Tom in movies like Forrest Gump and Castaway with my kids. Two movies they love. "Life is like a box of choclates" oh and don't forget his voice in Polar Express and Toy Story two more movies my kids love. Wow.

  • I liked this theme song better. I wonder why the re-runs have a different opening tune.

  • @kimmy1984 Music rights are typically for a specific time period for a specific use. Rebroadcast 30 years later on a cable network was obviously not part of the original contract. The studio/network probably asked Billy Joel (or whoever owns the song these days) how much they would charge to use it today and it was too expensive, so they just used another song.

  • 1:13 LT DAN!

  • this is actually a Bill Joel song!

  • seeing this and then hearing Peter Scallari doing radio commercials for erectile dysfunction medication makes me kind of sad

  • tom hanks should of followed peter to fame,,,i mean where is tom now? :P

  • @SirSleezy

I got a ride home from Tom a few days ago.

He took the bridge and cut off the traffic so I tipped him and extra $5.

  • @SirSleezy I don't know probably dusting off those crappy Oscar awards he's won. :P LOL!!!

  • God forbid these moron just find another apartment to live in

  • It always makes me a little sad when I think that none of these people could get Tom Hanks on the phone if their lives depended on it.

  • @Hoopermazing Tom is fairly close to Peter Scolari and was to Wendy Jo Sperber (RIP). He helped pay her medical bills in her last years. Not sure about the rest.

  • dame theme songs were highly important back in the day wonder how much the paid

  • i'm here because of 30 rock

  • that was a comical show, and Scolari's career arc didn't quite match Hanks', though I think he was the better juggler. Funny to see Donna Dixon with top (alphabetical) billing. And Sperber is gone now.

As for men dressing as women, the hands and Adam's apples give it away.

  • haha had to see this after 30 rock show

  • @shyboymi

Yeah. Funny how he was softly singing/huming the theme song.

  • Wat billy joel song is it?

  • @AstroGyrl101

    my life

  • What was the theme song they used when the show was in syndication? I saw the show on USA about 20 years ago with a different theme song that says "Never gonna shake me loose."

  • This show was hillarious to me. I loved it. I especially remember liking the theme song!

Tom Hanks is awesome. He went from Bosom Buddies to BIG to Apollo 13 and Cast Away. There doesn't seem to be anything he can't do.

  • You had to wonder who in the hell would buy these guys as women. They totally seem like dudes in drag. The Billy Joel theme song made this show, and it's what I remember most from it. The actual series was very novelty like Mork and Mindy, but certainly not groundbreaking, Emmy winning comedy like Cheers.

  • Tom Hanks had a great comedic background but later did nothing but serious acting. Wonder why he tried so hard to brush of his past?

  • @Xcorgi - Yeah, I've noticed this, too. It seems to have happened somewhere after Turner and Hooch. He just .... started doing all those war movies.

  • @Xcorgi I don't think he entirely gave it up, granted he doesn't do comedy much anymore but when he was on SNL a couple years ago and played a moronic version of himself on Celebrity Jeopardy it was priceless

  • Peter Scolari had the ass and thighs of a GOD.

  • implanting cross-dressing transgendered male tendencies into the minds of little boys all across the world even way back then.

  • @shayarzachary You are correct! This was just the beginning of forcing homosexuality on people. They figure if they introduce it slowly then over time... Well look at things today... That show along with hundreds more pushing the gay agenda... Sad really...

  • @molson421 ummmmmm, they weren't gay. tom hanks character ended up with donna dixon's character.

  • Tom Hanks went from this show to one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and poor Peter Scolari is left to memories of this show and conversations about Tom that always start off, "I remember..." - the lowest form of conversation since it is not advancing the conversation. Damn Tony Soprano was so right.

  • They didn't even bother shooting the opening in NYC--palm trees everywhere. Thank god today's shows are so much better.

  • Fag hag at 0:08.

  • Run Forrest..Run

  • ropey, ropey premise

  • @pfive - You made me laugh! Brilliant comment....

  • hey its fred and barney.

  • i really wanna see an episode of this show!!!!! someone reply to me or add me as a friend or send me a message, i need to watch the show if u kno where i can go ta see it.... thanks!!!!!!

  • Good lord, that's a long opening sequence... it's almost one and a half minutes before they get to the supporting cast.

  • The wonderfully talented and charismatic Thomas Jeffrey Hanks.

  • Wow 3

  • Damn, men's shorts back then were so SHORT. Those things look like Daisy Dukes. Hahaa :D

Kinda hard to believe Donna Dixon is married to Dan Akroyd's goofy ass. lol

  • tom seemed homsexual.

  • great opening great show miss it

  • Donna Dixon was a banger, fo sho.

  • I love Tom Hanks in everything!

  • It seems like this show went immediately into syndication, which was good because that meant yeeeeeaars more watching for my kidhood. Classic.

Also, let's not bag on Peter Scolari. Doesn't anyone else remember Michael Harris on Newhart? *meow*

  • One went on to become a two time academy award winner and star of dozens of critically acclaimed films, the other... well... um... he was the dad on the failed honey i shrunk the kids tv show spinoff... yeah....

  • I wonder whatever happened to that Hanks fellow........ This show was really a springboard for Scolari and obviously made him a huge star but that Hanks guy kind of fell off the map after this show.....

  • This was not a show about gay men. But it WAS the only way two men living together could be portrayed on 70s tv, set for prime time. They also had to show that they were both openly interested in the ladies, since they were both single.

  • I love this song! I remember hearing this on the radio when I got a little older, after the show ended, I got so happy. I had no idea it was a real song Lol! Oh yeah, the show was great too!

  • @bitchingood

This is actually a Billy Joel song, circa 1978.

    I've always loved it, too.

  • @ChristyFisty Hot Damn! Love that Billy Joel! Would have never guessed. It does make sense though, everything that man sings is gold!

  • @bitchingood Same here man....when I was a kid my dad used to watch reruns of this 20 years ago......and i always remembered this song but for years i forgot what show to put it with.....well i finally rediscovered it hot damn!!!!

  • @NevadaWrangler Ahhh yes, those were the good days. Back when talent and a great theme song meant something. Hey, do you remember the theme from the "Gary Shandling" show lol?

  • this was my favorite show in the early 80's.

  • 80's Theme songs are classic!

  • I bet it gets a little rough at Bosom Buddies reunions trying to talk up what everyone has been up to since...

"Oh you were on Newhart, and you were on Family Matters. Whatever happened to that ugly guy who played Buffy?"

  • The chemistry between Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari was magic--Abbot & Costello caliber, those two! ~ Loved Wendy Jo Sperber.. another grand talent gone all too soon~

  • this was hot back n the 80s..use too watch all the time..classic funny tom hanks

  • Great show, and all the women were gorgeous (except 'Buffy' and 'Hildegard'!) I probably saw every episode in its original run in the early 80's. But you can tell it's filmed in L.A., not NY...notice that when they're jogging through the park, there are palm trees!

  • Wow... two openly gay main characters? This show was really ahead of its time!

  • @mientememami Who the hell was openly gay? Did you miss the part about them dressing as women so they could live in a female only apartment building? Guess you also missed Tom Hanks' character saying he was crazy about the blond.

  • @Cancrizans You're right. I guess Tom Hanks's character wasn't exactly OPENLY gay if he was using that blonde lady to fool people into thinking he was straight. I guess he was a closeted homosexual. Thanks for the clarification, Cancrizans. But still, to have two homosexual men in love, cross dressing, and cohabiting on television was probably a significant step forward for gay rights.

  • @mientememami Oh brother, you are WAY overthinking this!

  • @mientememami You obviously never watched the show. There was not even the remotest hint or suggestion that either of the "cross dressing" male characters were gay in any way. They weren't even "cross dressing" in the commonly accepted use of the term...they were dressing like women to find a low rent apartment. Is that stupid? Of course. But it was a deliberately silly convention used to create funny situations....as most sitcoms usually do....o.O Neither of them were into each other AT ALL.

  • @Cancrizans I watched the show all the time as a kid (although I don't know if episodes were still being produced or if they were simply in syndication). I understand if you don't support the decision of two gay men to live together. I understand that you find it to be a "silly convention." I'm just saying that I think it was a really brave show to depict such a thing. I think the two actors did a wonderful job of portraying the love between two young, virile, transvestite men.

  • At this point I think you are either trolling me,or do not speak native English and missed the entire point of the show. What I meant by a "convention" is a situation deliberately concocted for comedic effect...in this case they threw the two guys into the ridiculous situation of having to pretend to be women to maintain their cover and not lose the apartment, when in reality they were drooling over the beautiful girls in the show THE WHOLE TIME. How you don't see that is beyond all reason tbh.

  • @Cancrizans While I disagree with your assessment that their lifestyles were sinful, I respect your right to an opinion. You are very perceptive. English is not my native language, and I woefully regret the fact that I am unable to communicate with indigenous parlance. I am, nevertheless, gradually (you might even say testudinously) learning your beautiful language and earnestly appreciate your willingness to engage me in such a stimulating tête à tête. I apologize for my lack of eloquence.

  • @mientememami

    bravo!

    well done sir.

  • @duswdav *bows*

  • Life was so nice, before crack and Bush.

  • @barrydeez

and Ronny Reagan and inflation and job losses and high gas prices and reality tv.

  • @indyfan22k ....damn, how did I forget those..so true ...so true.

  • @indyfan22k sounds like 2010...

  • tom hanks is singing the theme song.

  • @tranurse LOL Tom Hanks is NOT singing the theme song.

  • @haroof Well it's definitely not Billy Joel singing it, nor is it Peter Scolari...It certainly sounds a lot like Tom Hanks voice singing it - rumor has it that he did, but the website Songfacts(dot)com asserts it was actually performed by singer Bertie Higgins - if you listen to Higgins' song "Casablanca" (1982) the background music sounds strikingly similar to "My Life" (1978) but it doesn't sound like the same voice as this. My vote is in favor of Tom Hanks!

  • I want Wendy Jo Sperber so bad. Love her!

  • @dunskie Yes, it's those lips! She's quite sexy.

  • @dunskie She was a good looking BBW

  • ah Donna Dixon....You were a dream to watch

  • @wanderingeyes11 And to think Dan Ackroyd married Donna a few years later. Lucky bastard...

  • Wow, that foo Tom Hanks has pretty much grown up on TV, he's has been on TV for so long, we've watched him grow from young to old ON TV!, LMAO, and they make it look so easy!, that's what you call a professional in your field!

  • It's funny how it's been about 20 years since I've seen this show but i guess my mother must have watched it alot because I remember the credits COMPLETELY!!

  • TELMA HOPKINS WAS ON EVERY SHOW IN DA 80S !

  • This show would be the starting point of a solid small-screen career for Pete Scolari.

I'm not sure if the other fellow ever went on to do anything after this.

  • RIP Wendy jo Sperber

  • I can understand they didn't want to pay for Billy Joel's recording of the song, but this singer is terrible.

  • Is Tom Hanks singing this song_

  • billy joel?

  • @55102 Billy Joel.

  • Holland Taylor looks older back then

  • Wow, Tom Hanks had a lot more hair!!!!!!

  • i used to love watching this show back in the good old days. so funny cast.. =)

  • Again, another great show from back in the day.

  • Tom Hanks sister is fugly.

  • the 'no men past this point' hangs outside of elena kagan's house now

  • @illuminatioracle How does she get in though?

  • This had an episode that I found troubling. In high school Henry is asked out to the prom by a cute girl who also happens to be deaf. He lies and tells her he's busy that night. He takes another girl to the prom and is surprised by the deaf girl, who is escorted to the prom by her father. Henry runs off without even an explanation. Later he runs into her as an adult and does the same thing. But the sweet girl forgives him, saying she understands. She should have punched him in the nose!

  • @cynthiacher I loved that episode and I agree with you that she should socked him up too, LOL

  • I always thought these guys were gay living together! LOL I kind of makes sense, they are together every minute and they dress in drag! LOL! nothing wrong with it, but I just makes you think they are partners! :)

  • sitcom intros used to be very long.

  • Good I'm no tthe only person who remebers this show.

  • tom is a closet case but GREAT actor

  • These guys are ambigously gay

  • I remember this show haha

  • I think probably has the best theme song ever, since it is done by Billy Joel. In fact it is way too good for this show.

  • @Aproxy2 Well, it is a Billy Joel song but it's not him singing it here. Oddly enough it sounds like Tom Hanks singing.

  • Tom Hanks!

  • Tearjerker of a tune right? I belted this one out at Karaoke BLeu..."Wha's the stand up routine though? Like the strip? Gots to be the strip right? The show had a decent premise right?

  • this is one of my favorite shows

  • i never knew that Tom Hanks had his own sitcom.
