Yeah I've already downloaded this and am playing it (or at least attempting to... it's frickin difficult). Definitely one of the best homebrew CV games. The intro is frickin epic; basically talking about how kick ass the Belmonts are. It really gives you a sense that not only is your journey important, but your very survival as well (being that you're the last in the line of Belmonts).
@piscesdreams1023 This is great. Thanks alot for making this and Im sorry it took me this long to hear about it. I heared somewhere that you lost the data for this game and can not work on it any longer? If so thats unfortunate. What version of the "Vampire Killer" song did you use in the first stage?
Man, I know you're not working on the game anymore, but please, do something with fucking spearmen! It's only the second level, but every hit from spearman takes a fucking quarter of your life! Come on, it's only the second level of the game. The original Castlevania had enemies that took quarter of life, but it was on level 5 before the boss!
Too bad you can't finish it and 1.3 is the final version, but the game is kick-ass nonetheless and I swear it's the best Castlevania experience since Bloodlines... Okay, since Symphony of the Night, it was good even being castletroid. Also, pretty clever name choice. Since this game is resurrection of aborted 32X title, naming its main character after John Harker was clever because Genesis' Bloodlines connected the series with Bram Stoker's novel.
And I have a question. Can you walk back and forth from one frame to another?
I ask you this `cause I am using Multimedia Fusion 2 too, but I can`t figure that one out.
How can you make your character animation to remain in the same position as you entered in the next frame? I mean if you`ve been hit by enemies and kicked to the next frame. So that the animation remains the hit animation.
In order to do something like that, I've found the easiest way is to have the majority of your map in one singular frame instead of divided up. Then set boundaries for the scrolling camera and have a black active object that is in the top layer that appears and disappears quickly to give the illusion that the next "room" is being loaded as like Symphony of the Night was. However, you can divide up your areas like Castle Wall and Clocktower into different frames if animation changes are ok there.
@piscesdreams1023 thanks for the video and the game! its really rocks :) I am wondering what is the name of all music in the video? i really really like them. and also, is there a way to remove the gliches when I am stuck in the game? I cant jump, and sometimes I have to restart the whole game and play all over again :(
@MrBlahOfTheFire The first music is Red Dawn I believe, then Town of Cordova, Theme of Simon, Heart of Fire. Yep there is a reset button for the character, it's F12. There is supposed to be a help file attached but I'm assuming as people download and reupload they leave it off. The F12 key resets the players movement if he becomes stuck, beware though it does add gravity.
Yeah! Old school games are fucking shit. Metroi... err, I mean Newschool Castlevania games are much better. It's so good to be Samus Ar... err, I mean Alucard, or Soma Cruz or whateverinthehell other character than Belmonts!
The game is cool. Graphics are brilliant, music too, but you should work on the controls. I mean... Geez, wouldn't be better to set Space as jump, a as whip, s as item and d as item crash?
Anyway, the game is good and has good ol' CastleVania atmosphere, just like Bloodlines on Genesis, or SCIV on SNES.
Castlevania in the winter time? Hell yeah!!! Forget what that other guy said, this is sweet! Rondo of Blood didn't bomb... I want what this guy is smoking... that game is considered by many to be the landmark game in the series next to SOTN. I can't say enough good things about your fan-game... amazing!
Castlevania? During the WINTER time?! Clearly you have no idea what makes a good Castlevania game. Sorry, but every GOOD Castlevania game has to have all of the following:
- A sexy hero. If it's a guy, he has to look almost female.
- The resurrection of Count Dracula during the SUMMER.
- "Metroidvania" gameplay.
This is why Rondo of Blood bombed when it was released. It had none of the above.

(Please note: This comment is intended as satire.)
Speaking of Simon, I notice Harker can use the Flame Whip (or as I like to call it, the "Blessed Flames of Retribution" Vampire Killer). Is that going to be a secondary weapon, an "until you die" power-up (like the other Sacred Whip things), a timed thing, or something else entirely?
well, the powerup for it is available in one particular level and if you die you lose it but it is a secret unlockable whip that stays with you even if you die.
this looks really good, but i wanted to ask a few things. 1. is there goin to be any whip manipulation, like the now-standard whip-spin? 2. wat is the save system? eg, r ther save rooms? 3. is it possible this may also come out as a DS rom, so u can play it on the go?
No there won't be a whip spin, however there is a controllable backflip for different distances, and a forward roll. The save system will just auto save the most recent level you are on and if you quit the game it will take you back to that level if you re-load. No there will be no DS rom support, it will sadly be strictly Windows format only. However down the road Xbox 360 functionality is possible.
i'm glad u replied. thats really unfortunate about the DS rom support (the only pc in my house is the family pc, so i dnt always get a go on it). and, also unfortunately, i dnt hav a 360. if i knew how to convert these things to werk on DS then i happily wud, but i cnt.
Yo, where I can get the revamped version? I got the original version, but I can't seem to find the revamped one anywhere. Any idea where I can find it?
It's not available yet. I'm still working on it, but it is almost finished and should be ready within the next 2 months. I'll be posting links on all the vids to download the game and upload a vid so all subscribers are aware.
This game looks like it's gonna be the shit! Sorry for my crude terms, but I felt it necessary to convey my feeling of the sheer awesome this game exudes. Seriously, I couldn't ask for a better CV fan game! Nice bosses, a few interesting sprite choices lol, but just epic! Seriously, it seems you've mastered harnessing the elusive air of Castlevania! Seriously... surely better than *some* of the recent official CV offerings... *ahem* PoR and OoS <.<
very very impressive work pisces. since the first demo released there's SOOOO many improvements. really like the way things are going, keep it up and let's see this finished! ;D
This is all looking to be very good. Of course, the Belmonts sort of leave the picture after 1797-98, so I'm guessing that this will be some kind of "parallel universe" story then, or a side-story (that's the only thing that sort of stands out to me about it), but either way it's intriguing, and I kind of like this route rather than all the strange crap Konami comes up with about the 19th and 20th century time periods. Good work!
Yeah you're right, the Belmont's do sort of leave after Richter's bout with Alucard in Sotn. But the bloodline has to continue for Julius to come into the picture for Aria and Dawn of Sorrow as well as the 1999 game. That's kind of what this is, I'm going to add cutscenes I imagine in between levels that will sort of give my own (non canon) take on their disappearance. But it's all in good fun, just wanting to make a game for fans by fans that's actually decent unlike a lot of homebrews :\
Well, it looks like you're putting a lot of work into this, and you should under no circumstances rush the final product out, or it will end up like so many half-assed, POS fan-games that are out there. There is so much potential here, and you should just spend the time polishing it up, working on the engine and the story, and making a really kick-ass game. Keep up the great work and I'll be subscribing to see future posts!
Well thank you for the kind words! I've been working on it since November of 2007 so I've been putting in a lot of hours into it polishing the engine, getting things the way they need to be and just trying to make the best game I possibly can.
I'm sure people will enjoy it. I mean, yeah there is going to be a few bugs but it's nothing that will be horrible like the original demo was. I'll have a note stating what the bugs are, what triggers them and such so folks know. But yeah it's basically a limitation of Multimedia Fusion 2. One bug for example, do NOT jump onto the stairs, bad things happen to good people, take the from the top or bottom. It sucks that my sound card won't record the game audio, I may do a vid from another PC.
The level design and enemy placement has come a long way, and those boss fights look very fun. :) However, there are many improvements I have yet to see with the technical aspects--like when Harker is facing one way and his whip is facing the other ^_^'
Please tell me you're going to keep the awesome introduction where Richter gets thrown around by Death!
Yeah I've reworked it heavily, trying to get a more authentic CV feel. The whip facing the opposite way is because when you tap back and forth while whipping it confuses the system, sometimes it can be beneficial but it shouldn't happen.
It really looks a lot better than this video shows, the video is choppy on the animation which is much more fluid in game. There are some bugs that I just absolutely cannot fix but have reworked to make it as a feature.
For example, if the player whips while overlapping a platform instead of just being the stairs themselves, they will fall through sometimes, so what I've done is made it to where you cannot be harmed while on the stairs but can attack, but encourage players not to be overlapping platforms, that way their defense is fair.
As for the intro sequence, it isn't in right now, but I've decided to add cutscenes in between levels, so who knows, it just might be in there after all somewhere.
Bloody Tears is actually in the chapel stage. And there isn't a lack, the medusa heads are in the chapel on the pillar portion along with the spear guards and bone pillars. They're there ;)
not really, the sprites are their original size in SoTN and Chronicles on PS1 and have not been altered or rescaled, maybe the quality of the video but they're the same size.
I mean that the appearance of Medusa Heads in this stage is pretty short, they are appear only on the pillar portion, while other enemies appear a lot.
I think that the Medusa Heads can replace the bats on this stage. They go fit together with the red wall's background.
It sure will. I'm an active member of the Chapel of Resonance and I'm sure site owner will host it there. He hosted the old demo a while back but that's ollllld and very buggy and just not what this new game will be.
