  • The name "Degrads" was the brainstorm of guitarist D.C., who intended it to imply graduation (most of us were college kids) and degradation.

My experience of Rochester (suburban Rochester, in my case) was that it was an okay place to be. The "new music" scene was kind of tiny, though. (For more info on what there was--before, during, and after the Degrads era--check out scorgies.com/blog/ .)

Ah yes, "Frontal Lobotomy." I'm too squeamish for that one in my old age! (:v>

  • CE, its me again. I'm curious about the name "Degrads". Does it have a reference/meaning? And Rochester seems like it was a simultaneously interesting but fucking grim place to be back then. Any info on that you could direct me to? Ta.

  • Where's Frontal Lobotomy? As much as I love "Bobbie", I'm even more into the flip.

Despite living on Long Island, I was lucky enough to snag this single, thanks to my cousin - a good friend of Sam Elwitt's - who got me a copy.

  • I heard this just once, back in Oct 83 - on the BBC R1 John Peel programme - and never forgot it. I googled it out of curiosity and am thrilled its here!

  • Wow--I'm so glad you said that, krakenwave! I knew I'd mailed a copy to the late, great JP (in fact, I still have the typewritten list of places I sent the 45) ... but I never knew he'd actually played it. This makes my day.

  • On the strength of that one hearing, the next night (a Friday) me and my housemates got on a bus going all the way down the Edgware Rd (from Cricklewood NW9 to Central London WC1) to go see Koyaanisqatsi and then have a Tandoori afterwards. And we sang about poor Bobbie all the way there. The bus conductor joined in in the end.

  • Thanks for relating that, krakenwave! Best story ever!! (:v>

  • Yeah, well, we taped the shows then. Learned the words. Soz and that...

  • I love the twin lead!

  • So funny - I have this single. Stumbled on this by accident.

  • Degrads rock!.....and holy crap....that's me playing drums....

  • this setup is hilarious

  • Awesome rockin' band! oooyeah! Ooo and now let's play Bobbie-Ball!
