Well done EIA and Telapak for undertaking this investigation, and making this excellent film to inform the world. Papua Forest Eye always keeps an eye on EIA for exactly this reason.
We cannot rely on the leaders to do anything as they are undoubtedly the most corrupt of all the people involved, in fact i would put money on them actually earning more from the illegal trade than any other smuggler involved. We need to take action to stop this trade, if we gave the tribes people guns and trained them in gorilla tack-ticks then the loggers would be shit scared to even go into the forest.
@eyeswideopennimrod that's a silly statement, the tribes people are the ones who illegally logged the trees for their living. If you want to stop this, you gotta give those tribes people money and the money is not suppose to be from their government because it's going to be useless, you gotta give to them directly.
many big concessions in Papua are registered and some are certified, the video could've missed out those and just give a blanket-statement to those who have logs as illegal traders
@gontha1234 Erm i think you will find it was the introduction of money into these tribes that is causing the problems we in the modern world suffer from i.e. greed and interest. The tribes are not the ones logging the forest you fool, if it was they would make very little impact with there primitive tools, unless they have been loaned the money to buy the machines needed to rip the forest up, no they where conned out of there land or just had it stolen by the logging companies.
