@MoltenPlastic it was 'based off of Androids.. as it is credited in the films credits.
The several writers worked directcly with Phillip k dick including M Deeley and Syd Mead who brough dick on the set and as the story goes p dick was amazed of just how riteon mead interpreted his vision. The problem with writers today is the fact they either never follow the heart of the material placed before them or simply not being original. the best thing for a write is to listen to old radio drama
Just read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep... brilliant book. It has many things in it like "Kipple" that make it so dimensional, the film is brilliant but Philip K Dick had something very cool going on, he had a sense of humour and the irony in the book makes it SPECIAL. If you've read the book you'd understand my pun.
This is wicked...one of the best interviews ever...great guy, an elite craftsman and it would be awsum to work on a project with him...best school for sure. Cheers for the post !!
He said, "Comics are the hardest thing to do. To write a script for Batman is extremely difficult." As a filmmaker, I agree 100% ... but boy did Christopher Nolan sure pull it off!
You know what, I'm going to say "I stand corrected" because 1) you are right, and 2) there's a bigger audience for comics vs. fantasy unless it's already a respected classic (like from a book). I made a fantasy short years ago, and it stands as my "worst film".
I think the interviewer is beautiful - what a little tiger! Nice! Athletic too. Oh yeah, Mr. Scott was good - liked the stuff about hacking through it and working out the details, and how he blossomed in art school after flopping in school before.
Damn right! Thats bordering on Sacrilege! Stupid and foul trollop should know how to conduct herself when in the holy presence of SIR Ridley Scott! He had to shag the Queen to get those extra three letters in front of his name, so act accordingly, beeyatch!
The nerve of some women! They should really learn their place. Hope R.S. does a movie about the current tragedy of uppity women. Perhaps he can get that Australian he is so fond of, to beat a few up onscreen.
Ridley Scott is brilliant. His films are a marvel. However, he is not "the man behind Bladerunner." Bladerunner came from the mind of Philip Dick and is based on his story: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Thank you Ridley Scott for turning this story into such a brilliant film. Thank you for all your works of genius.

Actually, it's "fantasy" in general that's so difficult to write.
You have to keep the entertainment value high, while at the same time not sacrificing suspension of disbelief nor character development.
Funny that the most difficult thing to write is also the least respected artistically.

I would say that Ridley Scott has a deep respect for the fantasy/sci-fi genre.

@MoltenPlastic I'd say that comics fall into the fantasy genre.
Nice to see McKee quoted at every opportunity.

Actually he is.
Blade Runner is NOT Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Scott hadn't even read the book. He didn't have to: he was making his own story.
