  • The fun of inventing/designing/making this kind of clock mechanism is to achieve a practical mechanical system. This will be weight driven but I intend to use an electric motor to rewind the weight (by Huygens rewind gear or my own novel powered arm). It may seem like cheating but within my own personal design rules I'm happy to make the compromise)

  • sorry~i'm a beginning of looking those system and some question want to ask~

    1. is ti a pure mechanical system, any electronic devices need?

    2. is it all the energy of the clock provided by the weight? if the weight drop to the lower, the clock will then be stopped?

    thx so much :)

  • what kind of wizardry is this? I can't understand how it works!

  • Thanks for your useful comment Tricyklist. Though the gravity arm is unlocked towards the end of the swing the actual escapement unlock doesn't occur until the pendulum has been impulsed and is free of all contact.

However I shall play with some adjustments and maybe think about a design variant because I do see the potential weakness.

  • Unlocking at the end of the pendulum arc is not ideal. This is the most sensitive part of the arc.The best clocks unlock at the centre of the arc.

  • Just when I thought it had all been done and there were no more new escapement ideas... this is amazing and effective!

  • This is a superb piece of work .

I really like this design - but what mechanism ensures that it only tirns 1/2 turn ?

I couldn''t really tell that from the video.

  • Because it is badly adjusted! I had only just got it to work and was very pleased. I will put up a better engineered version soon.
