My psychologist told me one day. "I don't know how you did it? But, you have been able to rewire your brain. That was when I was 43, 36 years after a near drowning. The only memory I of that day at the swimming pool was opening my eyes and looking up at the surface. My mother said I remember hearing somebody tell the pool manager to stop the boys not going to make it. He said. I have to try one more time. Explore the five senses and never give up on the brain rewiring itself or healing itself.
This is very emotional for me to write on. A near drowning age six erased my memory, my feelings and emotions to connect with people or the things around me. I condition was diagnosed retarded. I married at age 19 to a wonderful woman who I wouldn't be able to love with feelings and affections, now 30 years later I have done something amazing I can feel her emotions and react now without having to think about what I need to do to make her feel better. Holding her hand feel great.
@samuelmorrisfoundati Thank you very much for your words of support at this difficult time. I am from Karachi, Pakistan. Unfortunately people don't know much about the dangers of half-filled water buckets that are placed in almost every bathroom of this country. This silent and instant killer can kill a toddler in few minutes as it was happened with our son Nameer. Pls advise me how I can raise awareness among parents of toddlers in order to prevent such incidents from happening in their homes?
My son lost his life after falling in bucket half-filled with water. His mother who was busy in attending his sick elder brother found him after two minutes of drowning. She tried to resuscitate him failing which she rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. This incident has rip our lives apart. This accident happened on 20 October 2011. We are in trauma, unable to understand how we lost our son who we kept like a flower. We are devastated.
how many babies will it take? CPR should be a high school requirement. I can't begin to tell you how sad I am for you. When you share your story you remind us that it only takes a minutes and accidents to rip our lives apart. I was lucky my lil one was only under a minute and had no lasting effect, FOR HER as for me I am now a wreck I view everything as a danger. When I see the families whos lives were changed. I cry with gratitued and sorrow.
This is why I absolutely refuse to buy a house with a pool. I have already had a child die (not drowning though) and have 3 little ones right now. Thanks for sharing your son, I'm so sorry.
Your story is so heartbreaking!! He is such a gorgeous little boy!! I admire the fact that you are not turning your back on this tragedy....instead you are trying to open people's eyes!! I think that is such an inspirational thing to do!! Thank you for being so thoughtful and I can guarantee that this awareness will save a lot of lives!! I wish you guys all the best!!

Wow, such a meaningful message. As a pool owner i'm shocked at the statistics and thought that having a locked pool gate and a pool fence made our pool safe. The statistics however don't match what I had thought. I hope everyone hears this message, checks their pool fences, not just their gates, and watches children around the water, they are so precious. What wonderful work you are doing for so many other families. Good luck to you!
