There were some bad Patriots teams in the past - but some good ones too. The '74 team was young and decent. I believe Plunkett was the starting qb. Then the team that played the Raiders in the playoffs with the crazy "roughing the passer" call that cost them a trip to the Super Bowl. That was a damn good team. Grogan, Russ Francis, Tim Fox, Mike Haynes..too bad that team didn't stay together. Fairbanks was head coach and had them on the way to being an AFC powerhouse.

So much for the 1970's Pats teams with Steve Grogan, Sam Cunningham, Stanley Morgan, Russ Francis, etc. The 1976 Pats-Raiders divisional playoff crime which was finally set right, 25 years later with the tuck rule. The Pats were owed one. After the refs gave the game to The Raiders in '76 with two bullshit calls in the last minute, the commissioner of the nfl, Pete Rozelle, banned every ref who was at that game from ever officiating another Patriots game again. True story.

Not sure how old you are, but Grogan in '76 was unbelievable. He still holds the NFL record for rushing TDs by a QB he set that 11-3 season, as he was the master of the 2 yd goal line naked bootleg play.

A PATSFANN since 1978 (8 yrs old) when they won they're 1st outright division title (David Posey was the kicker in place of John Smith).

Back to Steve Grogan... His Naked bootleg was well mastered. I never seen anyone do quite like him. He also helped the Pats set a NFL record in '78 for most rushing yards by one team in a season (still a league record I believe). As Gil Santos said, "He was Steve Young of 1976!"
