The "close-ups" of the violinist are because this is THE Joshua Bell, great violin virtuoso, but I agree, it is a bit annoying. I think this one of Schubert's most beautiful lieder; however, I prefer them all sung with piano alone, the orchestration detracts from the beauty of the vocal line IMO.
Awful!. She cannot sing a chromatic scale (she messed up 2 out of 3) and the crescendo to forte of the first "(...) Glanz allein erhellt" was not there. The diminuendo to piano is supposed to be there on the second "erhellt" only, not on the first one. It adds to the cynism of the piece, which is totally neglected by both the arrangement and the singer.

That lieder evening was absolutely fabulous. I keep hoping someone will post the 2nd from Verbier, which she gave alone after Bonney cancelled - there was plenty of her fave repertoire there, also including a ravishing performance of, Der Abschiedsbrief.

I also don't like the arrangement much.
However, I think she does a pretty good job considering this really is one of THE most difficult Schubert songs...

Maybe she was doing a whole cycle of lieder, and in those cases, people clap when she finishes everything.

I heard Angelika sing lieder at Lincoln Center in 2004. She was amazing. She has a wonderful, sturdy middle voice. Beautiful!!
