  • Very GOOD piece of rock!!!!!!!!

  • Back when bands used to know how to play their instruments, write songs, and ROCK.

I'm surprised Miles had any lungs left after that one.

  • oh man high school - they played at my high school and I remember not wanting to go but one of my friends said to go because other wise I would sit at home on a saturday nite - wow good advice

  • i jammed with one of the henman bros love april win i cover lots of there tunes ,rock on guys

  • That outro solo, was just audible enough to make me drop my guitar, that was way ahead of it's time I didn't even think shredding was invented until the 80's

  • Shame on Corporate Classic Rock stations for not playing stuff like this, I ONLY got onto this one from Limewire

  • Have always loved these guys..and this is one awesome tune!! :)

  • mr jim clench

  • I had no idea this was April Wine, what a great song!

  • omg cant wait for wednesday at buffalo days ill get to see them woooo

  • i seen these guys 10 times back in the 70s in NS..now 40 years later get to see them tonight at the ribfest in chatham ontario woot woot

  • seeing them in concert for free tonight in moncton, happy canada day!

  • has anyone noticed that April Wines from Nova Scotia, after i found that out i was so proud 2 be from here

  • how you know it was good/classic?

People still listen to it 40 years later! Music nowadays won't even last a month. Usually within a year modern artists are washed up and forgotten.

  • I photographed April WIne in the 70's in Calgary. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • saw April Wine last night in concert--was awesome.

  • I saw them several times and they shook the whole arena every time. I all ways have and all ways will love april wine

  • R.I.P. Jimi,you will be missed!

  • @keshenadawn Ummmm .... April Wine is Canadian!!!

  • I just saw April Wine live last night and I have to say, I was the youngest person there. My dad exposed me to some good music when I was a wee one, I guess. But I loved it! The only thing was that they didn't play this song and that was what I was waiting for!

  • See here in Canada every single was probably a top 10 hit. And they had, I'm guessing at least 30 - and we thought they were just as popular in America. And I'm just starting to realize maybe they had 3 hits in America at best. That blows my mind. That's like someone hearing in America that Bruce Springsteen or the Eagles anyone with a lot hits were not popular anywheres else. But even worse. Because it's perceived if you didn't make it America you didn't make it. And it's kind of true.

  • Classic Rock is so much better than todays pathetic excuse of music! What is rap suddosed to be? An imitation of a hippo diying in a tar pit? I wish more people relised that classics like this are AWESOME!!!!! ROCK ON APRIL WINE! Only Canada could create this! Only April Wine could make it Better!!!!!!

  • These guys played at my highschool Cristmas dance, just before they released their first album. I've been to 3 of their concerts, and they put on a great show. Mercer's drum solos were amazing. They used a strobe light in the early days. Imagine watching that after dropping a hit of window pane acid!

  • @cypresscoach Wow, did you go to QEH in Halifax. I think that was where they went to school and I believe they recorded there that night but I'm not sure about that. I was ten when they were really big. But you must've been in high school in '70 or '71 when they played QEH. I wa born in '68 so too young for that. But I always knew about this concert (if this is what you're talking about) and wondered what it would've been like to see one of their first great performances.

  • @heyman29323 I didn't mean they recorded this song that night. But just that they recorded that night I think.

  • @heyman29323 I went to highshool in the sticks, in Middle Musquodoboit. I was in junior high when they played our Christmas dance. Our school was 7 to 12, so I was hanging around with a lot of older kids. I think I started drinking and smoking hash when I was about 14. I think the girl who booked the band went through a talent agency. The band was just back from recording in Montreal, and just wanted to make a few extra bucks, for Christmas. Memories eh?

  • whew - this was my all-time favourite in the 70's as a teenybopper - im surprised at myself

  • jeez....did i have to grow up to realize how good these guys r? i really feel bad not giving them a chance in the day! canadas greatest musical attribute!!!!!

  • 5 dislikes?? 5 people were too young to know any better! Thanks for posting this killer classic.

  • Weeping widow, don't you cry Dressed in black, I don't know why All the time that you've been waiting You should feel like celebrating He'll make you free as a bird in the sky Free as a bird in the sky Look out stranger, here comes danger Don't let it look you in the eye, boy You better take care, you know you've got to beware Don't let it look you in the eye, boy, weeping widow Weeping widow, spend your leisure In you castle full of pleasure When his spirit comes to haunt you
  • In your chamber, he will taunt you He'll make you free as a bird in the sky Free as a bird in the sky Look out stranger, here comes danger Don't let it look you in the eye, boy You better take care, you know you've got to beware Don't let it look you in the eye, boy, weeping widow Weeping widow, don't you cry Dressed in black, I don't know why All the time that you've been waiting You should feel like celebrating
  • Weeping widow, you gotta run

Weeping widow, you better see what's in store

  • I know I'm late here with my Canada list: Christmas, Ugly Ducklings, The Haunted, Harmonium, War Pig, The Diodes, Doa, The Good Brothers, Bad Luck #13, Blue Rodeo, Sadies, Sloan, Elevator to Hell, Tricky Woo, Voivod, C'mon, even Gordon Lightfoot and Ian and Sylvia for God's sake we've had too many killer bands! And of course 1970s rock like April Wine, Trooper, Harlequin, Prism... way too many to name!

  • How about the amazing Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush!!

  • @grossyknows How about the amazing Rush! How bout Triumph, The Guess Who, some good stuff...Man I love April Wine...I didn't know how good they really were when they played a free show in Buffalo about 6 years ago, and several years later. Now thanks to Toronto's Q107 that we get here, well I'd put them and Glass Harp up as about the best lesser-knowns, oh yeah and Free...(countless others too...)

  • back in 73 i felt like i was free as bird, listen an rockin to this song, grt times

  • totally love this tune.one of the best canadian rock bands of the 1970s.all old rock and roll rules, unlike todays shit where it all sounds the same,at least you knew who you were listening to way back when.long live canadian classic rock!

  • Lots of them

  • any thing from april wine is like this

ummm look at rush too andd ronnie james dio

  • I'm 15 and I have always loved April Wine

  • The classics like this are never wasted.

Not when 40 years later you still have youth discovering these bands and loving them

  • @corey4406

Amen...im 26, nothing like these classics, so while i listen to rap from the early 2000s and 90s as well...todays music across the board...sucks.

  • @Impul23 and Rap.. all of it totally sucks!

  • Rap sucks so bad .

  • @nemtall Rap is to music what etcha sketch is to art.

  • @nemtall Actually, upon delving into the depths of the rap world, you shall find an elaborate and complex universe with great songs, such as the Rapper's Delight, or more recently, Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. both feature pleasant sounding songs, and Dark Fantasy resurrects the Pink Floyd trademark of telling a story within the album. My point is, Don't be so quick to judge something you know little about. That's how World War 2 started, after all.

  • @corey4406 your right

  • That is one scary album cover!

  • @modspell how's the album scary?

  • Just the crazy 70s-ness of it :') I love the band tho, no problem there.

  • rock n roll is not like what it once was any more todays music sucks!

  • Haven't heard this one in forever! WOW! What a flashback from the ole KMAC - KISS days in San Antonio!

    It was sweet:D

    And just so everyone knows,

all of americas youth hasnt been wasted!

    I'm 16 years old.

  • @keshenadawn

    canada's youth*

  • best song eva' from the best country eva'!

    (i think so anyway)

  • my beer can never stay in the cup at these shows...

  • What I listened to as a teen and still do at the age of 50! Awesome songs by this group.

  • i bought this record at a yardsale other day!

  • I think this band came along at the same time as Canadian content and therefore never really made big in the U.S.

  • As far as Canadian Bands are concerned, they were overshadowed by Rush. Both bands started around and peaked at the same time. I am a Yank but I consider April Wine to one one of the top bands of all time. Fuck what Rolling Stone mag writers think!

  • NOT enough views for this song.... Com on people.

  • Montreal Canada

  • yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa canadaaaa im origianly from ontarioo by the wayyy hahaha butt yaaa albertaa haha

  • @theotherlondonrevue Wow the hip and 5440 disgrace canadian music

  • @Chain1234...... This from someone that has Saga videos on their site. Not only are they lame but so are their fans. Now that's a disgrace!!!

  • @theotherlondonrevue please spare me your lectures. The majority of the people that visit this site luv Canadian Content. 54 40 the hip et al Any further comments should be PM to me cuz I'm sure no one here gives a rats ass what think

  • @theotherlondonrevue I think Saga almost disgraces heavy metal myself, it's some of the most boring metal I have ever heard, it isn't the worst but the stuff is pretty forgettable.

  • @OlegKostoglatov

Saga has never been Heavy Metal. Progressive maybe but definitely not Heavy Metal. For synth based, multi-harmonic based band, Saga was pretty good.

  • @Chain1234 Shut the fuck up

  • @theotherlondonrevue don't forget Red Rider! It is great to be Canadian!!!!!

  • @theotherlondonrevue Rush, 5 Man Electrical Band, Bryan Adams, Guess Who, Jerry Doucette, probs more i cant think of right now

  • @theotherlondonrevue HOLY SHIT how did i forget Neil Young???

  • @calljenn

you mean one of the best canadian drummers since neil peart

  • @doc69er there isnt one

  • I cant believe that this song has less than 5000 views, elmo gets more, hard to take considering ,a great tune by a great band yet the views show elmo ahead 100,000 times wtf

im canadin and i love it

most amricans will not be cought listening to this

  • Yeah Canadian music is so underratted alot of talent comes from our Country and nobody knows Go Canada!

  • agreed, look at rush for example, imo Geddy Lee is the best bass player ever (who else can play bass, footpedals, and sing at the same time and do a damn good job of it) and Neil Peart is the best drummer...

Good post love this song and band!!

  • You forgot to mention Lifeson, who is a legendary guitar virtuoso.

  • zomg i knew someone would say rush fuck yay!

  • I heard this on Canadian radio today, i live near the border so i get both. It seems to be ahead of its time for 1973. It has a lot of aspects that hard rock does today.
