Ichiro would have almost 4000 if he played in the usa since he was 18 but he played in japan until he was like 27... Still doesn't have a ring. Stupid he deserves it more than anybody.

i just heard the TB announcer say infield hits shouldn't count, 'THAT'S PRETTY MUCH LIKE SAYING SPEED DOESN'T COUNT' pretty dumb statement don't ya think?
@leiddy809 You're joking right? He just had a bad July, and he's still on pace for 210 hits. He's on pace for 30+ hits for August, 200 hits should be no problem especially with the Mariners playing better now than they had in recent weeks.
@WPWaST Well I think the team is a good fit for him, it's just that the team isn't getting better no matter what they try. But 2001 was an amazing season.
Ian Kinsler and that other guy are BOTH doing better than Hamilton ALREADY. So unexpected, damn Rangers. Since last year's postseason the Phillies Rangers and maybe Giants are going to be feared.
@WPWaST i agree. i live in spokane and have loved this guy since i saw him play at safco feild when i was 5. hes such a great ball player. ill be sad when he leaves seattle, but happy for him as a player to get away from such a sucky team.
Well, we are past mid season. Ichiro leads the league in hits at 116. He is 8th in batting average at .322, has 27 RBIs, 3 HR, a dismal .405 slugging percentage. Aside from the number of hits, are those "superstar" stats? Hardly. His team is in the cellar again with absolutely no chance to play in the post season. Hey, but at least Ichiro helped Japan win the World Baseball Classic. Apparently he was more interested with that than reporting to Mariner's sprnig training. A real team player.
@MILISA99 hey faget get your facts right Josh Hamilton leads the league in hits with 121 (beginning of July 17), and Ichiro is second with 119 hits, ur dumb and you spelled spring wrong LOL ICHIRO IS THE HITTING MACHINE BOY
@Alexhallkiller Ichiro is the most over rated, over payed, over promoted player in the major leagues. He bats like a girl, that is why he seldom hits past the infield. Why does he refuse to swing the bat like a manly baseball player. Numbers don't lie and his numbers illustrate what a mediocre player he really is. He is a loser playing on a losing team. End of story.
@MILISA99 wow you are one pathetic sad dude. Also over paid? dude.. ichiro is the 12th highest paid player in the league.. which means there are 11 other players who were getting paid even more than him? Would you rather have guys like magglio ordonez ($18,971,596) or Carlos Lee ($ 19,000,000) on your team? I'd take an ICHIRO any day.. who can consistently (and has proven it) get 200 hits a season. CONSISTENCY dude.
@clapsayyeahawesome Well, I guess Ordonez and Lee are grossly overpaid just like Ichiro. Actually, I wouldn't want any of these over-rated, over-paid "superstars" on my team. Their inflated salaries just drive up ticket prices. Apparently Ichiro has lost any desire to play for a winning team otherwise he would ask to be traded. Of course I doubt that any team would interested in his giant contract. No, he will just stay in Seattle and suck money from the Mariners.
@MILISA99 he lost any interest to play for a winning team? LOL that is ridiculous. Id lose some respect for him if he ASKED to get traded to the yankees. And he actually is the only one bringing in money for the Mariners btw. Dude.. youre arguments are really shallow and redundant. please dont speak anymore.
@clapsayyeahawesome It is free country, I will speak if I choose. How do you know he is the only player bringing in money for the Mariners? Did you do a survey? I watch baseball because I like baseball, not to see some over-paid so called "superstar" like Ichiro. He is a slightly above average player on a losing team. When will you admit that building a team around Ichiro is not working? It's time for a change.
@MILISA99 haha dude, you dont need a god damn survey to PROVE that people only watch the mariners for him. Im damn well sure that most people don't watch the mariners to see Jose Lopez... Ken Griff... maybe, but he's too busy sleeping in the club house. And I really wasnt arguing that building around him was working or not, hence my constant point that the Mariners CANT HIT. Im trying to blatantly argue against your opinion that ichiro is overpaid, and not a great hitter.
@clapsayyeahawesome I have lost interest in the Mariners. No fun, no excitement. I don't sit on the edge of my seat waiting for Ichiro to slap a single or two in every game. Ichiro has never been the reason why I watch the Mariners. I keep hoping to see some good, competitive baseball games but I've pretty much given up on that. Whatever the problem is with the Mariners Ichiro doesn't seem to be the solution. Maybe they should pay him more, would it really matter at this point?
@MILISA99 you know what, i know why you hating on ichrio, its so fcken simple....ur a fcken racist to asians, aint i right you fagetyou suck your moms dick like every night :D
P.S i like to see your batting swing i bet my grannys swings better than you u HoMo
Are you people serious? He is lucky to get 10 home runs and 50 RBIs a year. I don't consider that great hitting. $19 million a year for what he brings to the field? It's a joke. Why can't he go up to the plate and really swing the bat, do more to help his team win games. No, all he cares about are his personal statistics. The Mariners remain in the cellar year after year despite having the "great" Ichiro and I don't see anything changing soon.
@MILISA99 Baseball isnt all about HR and RBIs, someone has to get on base and be leadoff, Thus having 9 PLAYERS IN ONE TEAM.. Ichiro has been on base more than 200 times every season and you see him not doing his job? If anything the other players are the one not doing their jobs.
So please learn more about "BASEBALL" before making a fool of yourself.
@temmet I know a lot about baseball, that is why I do not buy into this Ichiro myth. He is one of the highest payed players in the major leagues, he should be more productive. No other team would pay $19 million for him. He is pampered by the Mariners. What does he do? Fields a few balls in right field and slaps an infield single or two in every game, that is all that is expected of him. He refuses to raise his game to a higher level to help his team win games.
@MILISA99 Sure he has only like 50+RBI per year, But he is leadoff for Christ sake. And It's not like he refuses to get a hit everytime he has an RBI opportunity, The Mariners just suck! If he played for like BOSTON OR NY, With 200hits per year he would have racked up atleast 100rbi's..
Also He has 200+hits 90+runs 40+walks 40+steals a year. And is a 9time GOLD GLOVER! IS that not productive?!? Who else does that today??
What, you think only those people who hit homeruns deserve big money? ALOL
@temmet Get serious. Ichiro is making over twice what the Mariners were paying Cliff Lee before Lee signed with Texas today. Ichiro makes nearly as much as Derrick Jeter, the Yankee's captain. Lead off hitters who play right field don't get paid $19 million a year, end of story. Ichiro is the most over rated, over payed player in baseball. As a Mariner fan, I will be happy when he is gone. Maybe then the Mariners can pay for some better players and start winning some games.
@MILISA99 u dont get it, do u. they gave him $19 mil because he is the only reason why people watch the mariners, it also attracts the asian countries to watch the team. i mean without him the business would go down and plus having a future hall of famer in your roster isnt a bad thing as well. yea he maybe slightly overrated as a player but in a business owners point of view he is well worth it. im sure he is a great player considering he is one of the faster players to achieve 2000 hits.
@dipsheet Slightly overrated? He is the most overrated player in baseball. Great hitter? Hardly. Look at his home run and RBI totals. Obviously his hitting does not help his team win games. Watching Ichiro slap infield singles does not excite me. The Mariners are famous for signing stupid contracts with players and this contract with Ichiro is at the top of the list.
@MILISA99 you know what that is rude Ichiro is a place hitter he is fast as hell and can usally get on first who cares about an rbi he gets on setting up for the rbi
@MrFlyingbird6 The problem is that Ichiro believes his only function is to slap an infield single and steal a base sometimes. Is that helping the Mariners win games? Obviously not. He is not a versatile hitter. He does one thing well. Opposing pitchers know that Ichiro is not a threat to get important, run scoring hits. Can Ichiro raise his game to a higher level to help the Mariners win games? No. He is letting down his team and Mariner fans.
@mrnanchatte Ouch! That really hurts. By the way, the Mariners lost again yesterday, at home even. They couldn't score any runs. They are 15 games out of first place in the AL west. And if I have to see Ichiro tug on his sleeve one more time I think I'll puke.
@MILISA99 the problem is not ichiro.. Mariners have no one. You cant really look at his RBIs considering no one else can hit on that god awful team. Look at the team - ichiro is batting .326 - next guy is guittierez batting is 256, then lopez who is batting .240, then figgins .235. The rest of the team just sucks. Put him on a stacked team and his RBIs will obviously sky rocket. And how is he letting down his team? If he is literally the only one who can hit the ball!!!
@clapsayyeahawesome Mariners RBI totals: Lopez-37, Figgins-22, Guittierez-36, Kotchman-29, Branyan-33, Bradley-28. ICHIRO-22!!!..........that's 22.....at the All Star break..........mid season.........that's not greatness......it's pathetic for $18 million a year. I won't even mention home runs (3). You can't change the definition of what constitutes great hitting to suit Ichiro. Study the stats of some of the all time great hitters. Ichiro doesn't belong on the list.
@MILISA99 Firstly, not every great hitter is a HOME RUN hitter. Secondly, the RBI argument that you are putting forth is invalid because as i mentioned, Ichiro can't get RBIs because no one in his team can get on base. FURTHERMORE - your RBI argument proves that MARINERS (EVEN their best hitter aside from ICHIRO) only has 37 RBIs, which is more than below average considering leading RBI hitters are at 70 RBIs. And last I check he owns the single season hit record.
@clapsayyeahawesome If you watch the Mariners you will find that Ichiro has many opportunities to bat in runs, he just doesn't produce. Also, hitting infield singles does not drive in runs. HE IS NOT WORTH $18 MILLION A YEAR! He takes home 1/5 of the Mariners payroll, money they could use to get better players and strengthen the team. It's hard to build a team when primadonna Ichiro is stealing all the money. I'll bet he's laughing all the way to the bank. So much money for doing so little.
@MILISA99 Its called a ROLE you retard. Just like every team on every sport - everyone has a role. Ichiro's role is not to bat in runs, or hit homers - his role - more specifically as a lead off hitter is to get ON base. And he has been getting on that BASE with a hit, albeit, singles, for over 200 times in his ten years with the Mariners. And that is his primary job. Its up to the 2-hole, 3rd and clean up hitters to drive him in. And THEY CANT DO THAT.
@clapsayyeahawesome Why does everyone feel they have to make excuses for this guy? The Mariners let Raul Ibanez and Cliff Lee go, they couldn't pay enough to keep them. Do you know why? It's because they are paying Ichiro so much money they can't afford to keep quality players. No one wants to play for a losing team like Seattle although Ichiro doesn't seem to mind. I guess if you pay some people enough money they will do almost anything.
@MILISA99 If Ichiro is so unproductive, maybe they should stop paying him and trade him to a real team. I mean, really. The Mariners are horrible. Even in years with both Griffey and A-Rod on top of Edgar Martinez they failed to get over .500. And in Seattle's best recent seasons (including a 116 game winning 2001) they were just an after thought. It isn't Ichiro that sucks. The Seattle Mariners just flat out suck, period. They suck. I don't know how to explain this more clearly.
@MILISA99 no ones making excuses for ichiro, hes just great. Excellent hand-eye coordination, great fielding and fast as hell. He can even pitch with 90 mph fast balls
@moomoofarm3 Great is 25-30 home runs, 100 RBIs, .300 batting average in a season. They tried moving him to center field and he couldn't make the adjustment. Just like he can't adjust his hitting style to hit with more power which would help his team win games. He only seems interested in achieving personal goals. He has been put on a pedestal and he certainly doesn't belong there. I say trade his sorry butt and get back to playing real baseball in Seattle. $18 million a year, what a joke.
@MILISA99 HAVE YOU SEEN PETE ROSE's STATS? His highest homerun tally is 16 and yet he is still considered one of the greatest hitters of all time.. Get your head out of your ass. Youre just one of those retarded douche bags who cant go to the game and appreciate SMALL BALL and thinks that baseball is all about home runs.
@clapsayyeahawesome When did Pete Rose ever make $18 million a year? 16 home runs? That is more than Ichiro has ever hit in a season. Pete Rose also provided leadership and motivated the other players which is something Ichiro has never done. Ichiro plays for a losing team and being that baseball is a team sport, that makes Ichiro a loser along with the rest of the Mariners. 20 games below .500, 17 back in the AL west. It doesn't seem Ichiro's "greatness" is having much of an impact.
@MILISA99 Pete Rose also had COMPETENT players around him unlike what the Mariners have. You're soo wrapped up with the home run argument, you fail to make sense of other aspects of the game. Also - of course they wouldnt pay him 18 million back in the day, back in the 70s when the average salary of baseball players were roughly around 100gs... The highest paid player in the entire decade (70s) was 1 million in 79 to nolan ryan.
@clapsayyeahawesome plus, youre 18 million dollar argument also fails because ichiro is 12th highest player in the league.. which means 11 other players are getting paid more than him. Would you really pick MAGGLIO ORDONEZ ($18,971,596)or CARLOS LEE ($19,000,000) over ICHIRO ($ 18,000,000)?
Both those players are incredibly inconsistent, compared to ICHIRO who gets 200 hits a season.
@clapsayyeahawesome plus, youre 18 million dollar argument also fails because ichiro is 12th highest player in the league.. which means 11 other players are getting paid more than me. Would you really pick MAGGLIO ORDONEZ ($18,971,596)or CARLOS LEE ($19,000,000) over ICHIRO ($ 18,000,000)?
Both those players are incredibly inconsistent, compared to ICHIRO who gets 200 hits a season.
@clapsayyeahawesome Why can't you people admit that Ichiro's home run and RBI stats are pathetic. 3 home runs, 24 RBIs at mid season. I fail to see anything "great" about those numbers. Oh, I forgot, Ichiro's only job is to get on base. We really don't expect much of him do we. For the Money he makes the team and fans should demand more. If he can't produce, trade him. Quit making excuses for the bum.
@MILISA99 It seems to be that u have more of a grudge on the team itself because u think they made a bad choice of getting ichiro, but without him, the mariners would lose more than half its fans including the entire country of japan (which means no money for the mariners anyway). btw u dont talk about the other mariners players, when i look at it, it makes me feel that ichiro is the only one doing his job, which is to get on base so others can get an RBI. Your're a noob, and i dont watch this
@moomoofarm3 $18 million a year to get on base? Yes, I think the Mariners were stupid to sign this contract with Ichiro. I don't watch baseball to see a pampered "superstar" like Ichiro slap infield singles.
temmet is right, ty cobb is one of the greatest baseball players of all time, he hit no more than 10 HRs in any of his 24 seasons, but he hit around 20 triples almost every season, giving him nearly 200 more triples than HRs. It really isn't just about HRs. As much as i hate the Stankees, Derek Jeter doesn't hit many home runs, but has many hits and everyone likes him, even though he really isn't as good as he used to be.
cano is doing way better than ichiro in the hitting category this year if cano want to he could surpass the 262 hits record that ichiro has and shot all those japanese people mouth

I live in the San Francisco bay area, and when I heard on the TV that Suzuki was starting for Oakland, for a brief second I thought they had traded for Ichiro. Turns out it was Kurt, not Ichiro. I would give my left nut to have seen Ichiro spend his career in Oakland.
Suzuki is kind of overrated as a hitter (although he's great at getting infield hits). Gets a lot of hits, but not many of them are extra base hits (about only 18% of his hits are for extra bases; I think the average XBH% for hitters is around 25%).
That being said, Ichiro is underrated as a player. Amazing baserunning skills, and outstanding fielding. It's a shame he didn't play in the majors until he was 27.
@EeVvAaNn3, you have to understand he plays on the Mariners. it must be awful discouraging to play on a team that never wins. he deserves better and his stats would be a lot better on a better team.
@EeVvAaNn3 dude hes a leadoff hitter his job is to get on-base not get extra base hits. i dont think the mariners would care if he didnt hit a double all season. he's a great leadoff hitter
imagine if griffey , a rod and randy johnson would have been mariners in 2001 with ichiro and edgar ect... then they would have had 162 wins and not 116
i live in kenmore, which is a suburb of seattle, and i was watching that night that he hit that homer off of Rivera, I would have paid the price of admission just to see that one pitch, two future Hall of Fame players head-to-head, one pitch, one home run...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i take it ichiro is really good in america, and yeah im japanese, but been living in england since forever..so dont know too much about baseball. the thing is when iv looked at mariners(league table for the last couple of years), they dont seem to win much..so i guess wht im askin is, is he just really loyal to the team, or no one wants him?
Ichiro Suzuki (baseball / hitter); Record Holder of 262 hits in a season, Season MVP, Batting Champion twice, stolen base champion
Michael Chang (tennis); Champion of French Open
Cheng-Ming Wang (baseball / pitcher); American League Wins Champion with the record 19-6 at the year 2006 as well as Santana. And he made 19 wins in ONE season twice.
Bao Xi-Shun; The world tallest man
Yao Ming (basketball / center); Taller than anyonein NBA.
doubtfull while he's a great hitter he's well into his 30's already so chances are no... if he had started his career in america earlier maybe he coulda but very doubtfull he will even come close... he will end with around 3,000 i beleive!
it's not his 2000th career hit dumb fucks. it's his major league hit's. he already has more than 3000+ career hits and will soon be the person with the most hit's in history
Ichiro is unbelievable and the most consistent All-Star player with longevity, which is so rare these days. Only 2 types of people hate him, racist dickheads and the Koreans (for losing the WBC 2009).
Seattle fans went crazy........Ichiro just drilled a 2-run home run with 2 outs at the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Yankees 3 to 2 in Seatlle. Ichiro is an amazing baseball player.
Ichiro would have almost 4000 if he played in the usa since he was 18 but he played in japan until he was like 27... Still doesn't have a ring. Stupid he deserves it more than anybody.

MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 wow you are one pathetic sad dude. Also over paid? dude.. ichiro is the 12th highest paid player in the league.. which means there are 11 other players who were getting paid even more than him? Would you rather have guys like magglio ordonez ($18,971,596) or Carlos Lee ($ 19,000,000) on your team? I'd take an ICHIRO any day.. who can consistently (and has proven it) get 200 hits a season. CONSISTENCY dude.
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome Well, I guess Ordonez and Lee are grossly overpaid just like Ichiro. Actually, I wouldn't want any of these over-rated, over-paid "superstars" on my team. Their inflated salaries just drive up ticket prices. Apparently Ichiro has lost any desire to play for a winning team otherwise he would ask to be traded. Of course I doubt that any team would interested in his giant contract. No, he will just stay in Seattle and suck money from the Mariners.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 he lost any interest to play for a winning team? LOL that is ridiculous. Id lose some respect for him if he ASKED to get traded to the yankees. And he actually is the only one bringing in money for the Mariners btw. Dude.. youre arguments are really shallow and redundant. please dont speak anymore.
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome It is free country, I will speak if I choose. How do you know he is the only player bringing in money for the Mariners? Did you do a survey? I watch baseball because I like baseball, not to see some over-paid so called "superstar" like Ichiro. He is a slightly above average player on a losing team. When will you admit that building a team around Ichiro is not working? It's time for a change.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 haha dude, you dont need a god damn survey to PROVE that people only watch the mariners for him. Im damn well sure that most people don't watch the mariners to see Jose Lopez... Ken Griff... maybe, but he's too busy sleeping in the club house. And I really wasnt arguing that building around him was working or not, hence my constant point that the Mariners CANT HIT. Im trying to blatantly argue against your opinion that ichiro is overpaid, and not a great hitter.
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome I have lost interest in the Mariners. No fun, no excitement. I don't sit on the edge of my seat waiting for Ichiro to slap a single or two in every game. Ichiro has never been the reason why I watch the Mariners. I keep hoping to see some good, competitive baseball games but I've pretty much given up on that. Whatever the problem is with the Mariners Ichiro doesn't seem to be the solution. Maybe they should pay him more, would it really matter at this point?

Are you people serious? He is lucky to get 10 home runs and 50 RBIs a year. I don't consider that great hitting. $19 million a year for what he brings to the field? It's a joke. Why can't he go up to the plate and really swing the bat, do more to help his team win games. No, all he cares about are his personal statistics. The Mariners remain in the cellar year after year despite having the "great" Ichiro and I don't see anything changing soon.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 Baseball isnt all about HR and RBIs, someone has to get on base and be leadoff, Thus having 9 PLAYERS IN ONE TEAM.. Ichiro has been on base more than 200 times every season and you see him not doing his job? If anything the other players are the one not doing their jobs.
So please learn more about "BASEBALL" before making a fool of yourself.
temmet 1 year ago 2
@temmet I know a lot about baseball, that is why I do not buy into this Ichiro myth. He is one of the highest payed players in the major leagues, he should be more productive. No other team would pay $19 million for him. He is pampered by the Mariners. What does he do? Fields a few balls in right field and slaps an infield single or two in every game, that is all that is expected of him. He refuses to raise his game to a higher level to help his team win games.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 Sure he has only like 50+RBI per year, But he is leadoff for Christ sake. And It's not like he refuses to get a hit everytime he has an RBI opportunity, The Mariners just suck! If he played for like BOSTON OR NY, With 200hits per year he would have racked up atleast 100rbi's..
Also He has 200+hits 90+runs 40+walks 40+steals a year. And is a 9time GOLD GLOVER! IS that not productive?!? Who else does that today??
What, you think only those people who hit homeruns deserve big money? ALOL
temmet 1 year ago
@temmet Get serious. Ichiro is making over twice what the Mariners were paying Cliff Lee before Lee signed with Texas today. Ichiro makes nearly as much as Derrick Jeter, the Yankee's captain. Lead off hitters who play right field don't get paid $19 million a year, end of story. Ichiro is the most over rated, over payed player in baseball. As a Mariner fan, I will be happy when he is gone. Maybe then the Mariners can pay for some better players and start winning some games.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 u dont get it, do u. they gave him $19 mil because he is the only reason why people watch the mariners, it also attracts the asian countries to watch the team. i mean without him the business would go down and plus having a future hall of famer in your roster isnt a bad thing as well. yea he maybe slightly overrated as a player but in a business owners point of view he is well worth it. im sure he is a great player considering he is one of the faster players to achieve 2000 hits.
dipsheet 1 year ago
@dipsheet Slightly overrated? He is the most overrated player in baseball. Great hitter? Hardly. Look at his home run and RBI totals. Obviously his hitting does not help his team win games. Watching Ichiro slap infield singles does not excite me. The Mariners are famous for signing stupid contracts with players and this contract with Ichiro is at the top of the list.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 you know what that is rude Ichiro is a place hitter he is fast as hell and can usally get on first who cares about an rbi he gets on setting up for the rbi
MrFlyingbird6 1 year ago
@MrFlyingbird6 The problem is that Ichiro believes his only function is to slap an infield single and steal a base sometimes. Is that helping the Mariners win games? Obviously not. He is not a versatile hitter. He does one thing well. Opposing pitchers know that Ichiro is not a threat to get important, run scoring hits. Can Ichiro raise his game to a higher level to help the Mariners win games? No. He is letting down his team and Mariner fans.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 wut do u mean he does one thing well? he does everything well, maybe cept hittiing homeruns but thats not really his job to.

mrnanchatte 1 year ago
@mrnanchatte Ouch! That really hurts. By the way, the Mariners lost again yesterday, at home even. They couldn't score any runs. They are 15 games out of first place in the AL west. And if I have to see Ichiro tug on his sleeve one more time I think I'll puke.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 the problem is not ichiro.. Mariners have no one. You cant really look at his RBIs considering no one else can hit on that god awful team. Look at the team - ichiro is batting .326 - next guy is guittierez batting is 256, then lopez who is batting .240, then figgins .235. The rest of the team just sucks. Put him on a stacked team and his RBIs will obviously sky rocket. And how is he letting down his team? If he is literally the only one who can hit the ball!!!
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome Mariners RBI totals: Lopez-37, Figgins-22, Guittierez-36, Kotchman-29, Branyan-33, Bradley-28. ICHIRO-22!!!..........that's 22.....at the All Star break..........mid season.........that's not greatness......it's pathetic for $18 million a year. I won't even mention home runs (3). You can't change the definition of what constitutes great hitting to suit Ichiro. Study the stats of some of the all time great hitters. Ichiro doesn't belong on the list.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 Firstly, not every great hitter is a HOME RUN hitter. Secondly, the RBI argument that you are putting forth is invalid because as i mentioned, Ichiro can't get RBIs because no one in his team can get on base. FURTHERMORE - your RBI argument proves that MARINERS (EVEN their best hitter aside from ICHIRO) only has 37 RBIs, which is more than below average considering leading RBI hitters are at 70 RBIs. And last I check he owns the single season hit record.
LAWYERED.
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome If you watch the Mariners you will find that Ichiro has many opportunities to bat in runs, he just doesn't produce. Also, hitting infield singles does not drive in runs. HE IS NOT WORTH $18 MILLION A YEAR! He takes home 1/5 of the Mariners payroll, money they could use to get better players and strengthen the team. It's hard to build a team when primadonna Ichiro is stealing all the money. I'll bet he's laughing all the way to the bank. So much money for doing so little.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 Its called a ROLE you retard. Just like every team on every sport - everyone has a role. Ichiro's role is not to bat in runs, or hit homers - his role - more specifically as a lead off hitter is to get ON base. And he has been getting on that BASE with a hit, albeit, singles, for over 200 times in his ten years with the Mariners. And that is his primary job. Its up to the 2-hole, 3rd and clean up hitters to drive him in. And THEY CANT DO THAT.
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome Why does everyone feel they have to make excuses for this guy? The Mariners let Raul Ibanez and Cliff Lee go, they couldn't pay enough to keep them. Do you know why? It's because they are paying Ichiro so much money they can't afford to keep quality players. No one wants to play for a losing team like Seattle although Ichiro doesn't seem to mind. I guess if you pay some people enough money they will do almost anything.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 If Ichiro is so unproductive, maybe they should stop paying him and trade him to a real team. I mean, really. The Mariners are horrible. Even in years with both Griffey and A-Rod on top of Edgar Martinez they failed to get over .500. And in Seattle's best recent seasons (including a 116 game winning 2001) they were just an after thought. It isn't Ichiro that sucks. The Seattle Mariners just flat out suck, period. They suck. I don't know how to explain this more clearly.
disastrr 1 year ago
@MILISA99 no ones making excuses for ichiro, hes just great. Excellent hand-eye coordination, great fielding and fast as hell. He can even pitch with 90 mph fast balls
moomoofarm3 1 year ago
@moomoofarm3 Great is 25-30 home runs, 100 RBIs, .300 batting average in a season. They tried moving him to center field and he couldn't make the adjustment. Just like he can't adjust his hitting style to hit with more power which would help his team win games. He only seems interested in achieving personal goals. He has been put on a pedestal and he certainly doesn't belong there. I say trade his sorry butt and get back to playing real baseball in Seattle. $18 million a year, what a joke.
MILISA99 1 year ago
@MILISA99 HAVE YOU SEEN PETE ROSE's STATS? His highest homerun tally is 16 and yet he is still considered one of the greatest hitters of all time.. Get your head out of your ass. Youre just one of those retarded douche bags who cant go to the game and appreciate SMALL BALL and thinks that baseball is all about home runs.
clapsayyeahawesome 1 year ago
@clapsayyeahawesome When did Pete Rose ever make $18 million a year? 16 home runs? That is more than Ichiro has ever hit in a season. Pete Rose also provided leadership and motivated the other players which is something Ichiro has never done. Ichiro plays for a losing team and being that baseball is a team sport, that makes Ichiro a loser along with the rest of the Mariners. 20 games below .500, 17 back in the AL west. It doesn't seem Ichiro's "greatness" is having much of an impact.
MILISA99 1 year ago

Your're a noob, and i dont watch this
moomoofarm3 1 year ago

I live in the San Francisco bay area, and when I heard on the TV that Suzuki was starting for Oakland, for a brief second I thought they had traded for Ichiro. Turns out it was Kurt, not Ichiro. I would give my left nut to have seen Ichiro spend his career in Oakland.
tedh754 1 year ago
Suzuki is kind of overrated as a hitter (although he's great at getting infield hits). Gets a lot of hits, but not many of them are extra base hits (about only 18% of his hits are for extra bases; I think the average XBH% for hitters is around 25%).
That being said, Ichiro is underrated as a player. Amazing baserunning skills, and outstanding fielding. It's a shame he didn't play in the majors until he was 27.
