I've just discovered the original yesterday by The Kinks. This remake is way too modern and melodic. Dig the piano in the beginning but love that old 70's sound so much better.
@88Vectorman88 Totally wrong. The original was by The Kinks realeased in 1979. And even The Kink's version was a cover of The Rolling Stones's "Jumping Jack Flash." So this song is a cover of a cover. Personally, The Kink's and The Rolling Stones's versions are better than this.
Look people no matter how you slice it anything you take home, a piece of gum, a song or what have you is stealing. Just because it is there for the taking doesn't mean it is right. If you're gonna go ahead and steal the music anyway, you gotta pay for it somehow. So get your ass out here and promote the record and the band and rather than telling people to grab the songs for free tell them to buy it! Lets cut the bullshit and lets go!
@MissMejiaHQ I didn't tell anyone to grab the songs for free, just this one that you can not buy. I will not be promoting this record unless it grows on me. I have promoted the two iTunes cover songs ridiculously though becuase they are great songs and great choices for covers.
@KeVideo22 If they cannot buy it then let them get the one by original artist for 1 buck. Stealing music is wrong under any circumstances. It takes time for a record to grow on you. Give it a chance and you're gonna be so in love.
@MissMejiaHQ Ok.. I listened to the CD today. I am not saying it is bad, I am just saying that it is not what they made it out to be over the past 6 months. Johnny is trying to write 12 Iris's.. Write 5 Iris's and 7 raw rock and roll songs. That song "Postcards..." is a perfect example of a direction to follow. That is the best song in the entire set. OH! and I love The Kinks, but the Goo Goo Dolls did their song better than The Kinks as they do most of the covers they do.
@KeVideo22 John never gonna write another IRIS song came to him at a time when he needed to have faith in himself and the powers that be. Iris is already everything can't top that. John's not a formula driven writer which is why you may feel the way you do. Songwriting's not as easy as people think. You gotta have subject matter and be on the lookout for what comes to you. Can't tell him which way to go creatively, he doesn't even know till it comes to him. He's gotta stay true to himself.
@KeVideo22 Sorry you're disappointed with this record. I totally understand how you feel. It has happened to me with other artists where I've felt totally disconnected from the music so I just don't listen to it and other times is just a matter of time before the songs take on meaning for me. I love "Something For The Rest Of Us" I don't think is better I think it is as incredible as everything John's ever written. Guy's incredible!
for a matter that is so subjective as music, kevideo22 is sure making a lot of objective statement, there are many people that enjoyed this album, if you dont like it , move the hell on to the next video, damn, some people....
@ccaccord07 Good or bad criticism is still good. The new CD hasn't grown on me. I've had it for a month now. The bonus tracks just happen to be better than the music written for the album. That is just my opinion and as I see, a good amount of reviews are saying similar things. YOU probably got into them 10 years ago, I've been a fan for 20+ years and watched them progress. They peaked in 92-95. They changed when they got popular. THIS song is great.
@KeVideo22 ive listened to every song that this band has come out with , from livin in a hut, to notbroken, i know all of their material, you can tell if you look in my favorites on my channel, i honestly think that hold me up is a strong indie album for its time, i believe to appreciate what the goos are putting out now, a person needs to be able to appreciate the subtleties in music, i do not think this album mediocre, WITH the bonus tracks included, i think this is a solid album
@ccaccord07 Well, that is where our opinions differ. In fact, this album along with the last album are the most mediocre albums they have done in years. Gutterflower took time to grow on me too but it turned out to be a pretty solid album.
@KeVideo22 apparently their last record was quite successful though, with 4 hits and a gold record , not bad for a mediocre album,( especially with music piracy on the high rise) their last 2 albums just does not appeal to everyone, especially the superstar car wash fans
from my experience, theyre last two albums are much more powerful live, they rock it up a lot , if you know what i mean, i wonder if they will put out a live album for the last two records,
@ccaccord07 In a world where Lil Wayne has hit records, those stats mean nothing anymore. And YES, I AM as SSCW fan, their best record ever. And YES, you are correct, both the last two records are much better LIVE.
@KeVideo22 it means somethings when you put hits on all your albums for 15 years straight, not many artists can say that, and look at all the hits and singles , their all balladssssss, just like the hits on let love in , btw sscw is one of the most under rated albums ive ever heard, the goos need to play on the lie or stop the world or something on their tours
@ccaccord07 I am not saying anything BAD about the band, I am just saying that their last two albums have been not as good as what they put out before. Just because I am a big fan of the band and a friend of one of it's members, I am not gonna sit back and say how great it is. It's called having an opinion. I DO agree that some SSCW AND ABNG songs need to be added to their sets. I doubt we will ever hear anything from the first 3 albums again.
@ccaccord07 See, that is what I expected from this new CD. They SAID that they were going in with a raw approach. The final product is too polished to be called RAW and too slow to really be called rock and roll. I understand that they have to put their 2-3 ballads on their for record sales but come on, some rockers like "Stop the World" or "Eyes Wide Open" would make it a kick-ass album.
@KeVideo22 i know , however the last three tracks really do give it a jump start, i love the last three tracks, i'm thinking this is gonna be one of those albums that i put in on a late night drive home,
@ccaccord07 It may grow on me. Like I said in a previous post, it took a while for Gutterflower to grow on me.. BUT.. I expected more out of them on this record considering the last record wasn't that great. BUT that still doesn't change the fact that I am not paying all this extra money for more songs. After all is said and done, watch Warner Brothers re-release this around Christmas with all of the extras on it like they do with tons of other artists.
@KeVideo22 its a good point to bring up the fact how music can grow on u, because i usually hear people say they liked it , or they didnt like it,in my opinion , music can be situational, for example, i dont care for the song eyes wide open very much when im sitting at home, but when im in my car i blast that song at 50,
@KeVideo22 it's funny, that whole album had to grow on me, i l grew to love all the great songs, on it, long way down , naked ( which is now my favorite goo goo dolls rock song, when its on the live in buffalo version) ,etc....
but what suprised me that it took me a while to figure out that slave girl was actually a cover song, haha
@ccaccord07 ABNG had to grow on me too because I didn't think anyone could top SSCW.. well, those two albums are probably the best one-two punch any band has ever assembled. I have the original versions of "Slave Girl" and "Disconnected", the Goo Goo Dolls do them justice as they do all of the covers they do. I even have the song "Stand Alone" that was taken off of ABNG (that George wrote and Robby sang). Love that era.
@MissMejiaHQ haha i saw you loved still your song from your website , i might do still your song, or not broken, if i do notbroken i'll really make it perfect since its my favorite song off the album, we'll see... i gotta look at my goo photo album, theres over 11,000 pics to go through
@MissMejiaHQ You're awesome Notbroken is an amazing song. If you do the video I'll put it up on my website. Thank you for adding the option to buy the MP3 to the videos. I love that! If you're gonna do Notbroken include military pics
You people all have jobs. How would you like for your paycheck to be given away before it even gets to you. This is bullshit people. The Goo Goo Dolls are a darn great band and their music is worth every penny of it. They have given you options so that you can get what you can afford. Just because YOU feel it ain't worth it does not mean you should be telling the world to steal the music. C'mon people!
@MissMejiaHQ The ONLY option was to buy the $35 package to get THIS song. Times are tough and most of us can't afford to shell out $35 for a song that is probably gonna come out on a new edition of the CD in 3 months.
@ccaccord07 "This is a new bonus track that is NOT released on itunes. Copywrites owned by WARNER BROS. AND GOO GOO DOLLS." If ppl want the track let them get the record. Not worth for you to get in trouble. You were nice enough to create video. Thank you. You're the best!
@MissMejiaHQ The only way (technically) to get it was to pre-order the CD for like $35.. I was all set with that and ripped it from this video. I could see if the new CD was GREAT but it is not..
@KeVideo22 I don't understand this, ppl like music, they want it but don't want to pay for it. So artists are supposed to bust their ass and give the sweat of their labor for free. I think that's pretty fucked up and if we keep this up music is going to become just like the animals extinct. The fine for sharing unauthorized music is $250k a pop. Judge not gonna give a fuck CD was $35.
@MissMejiaHQ I don't think it is fair for these bands to put out CDs that we buy, then re-release them two months later expecting us to buy the same 12 songs again.. or in this case, expect me to shell out $35 plus shipping for ONE song.. expecially when they put out a mediocre album. AND I don't think the Goo Goo Dolls really busted their ass with this one, most likely were sitting down while recording it actually.
@MissMejiaHQ MUSIC will NEVER be extinct, people are just gonna stop paying for it if these record companies keep ripping us off. AND that sharing fine crap on happens if YOU share. This dude might get a letter (probably already has) in his e-mail saying this is copywright infrindgement but he doesn't have to take it down. I ripped it from here though, the only option to get it besides the $35 crap. I just want the song, not the not-so-good CD in a cardboard box with a poster.
@KeVideo22 oh yeah, no one's gonna pay and artists are gonna keep making music for free out of their own pocket. This dude's not gonna get anything because he is helping promote the music. He has the copyright statement right up there. This dude ROCKS. I love this video.
FYI: As of July 2006, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has sued over 20,000 music fans for file sharing.
@MissMejiaHQ I am not sure if you are making a point or yelling at me. I have no problem with what this guy did, if it wasn't for him, I'd still be looking for the song. As far as the file SHARING comment goes, I don't share, I download it for myself and I don't share, and so far they haven't grabbed anyone for downloading, just those who provide it. This guy isn't providing it though because MOST people don't know how to download from YouTube. I am glad he put the song up.
@KeVideo22 What I don't understand is that you want the song but you don't want to pay for it because you don't have $35 bucks for the edition it was in. Everybody's gotta do what they gotta do. I'm just telling you that it is wrong and no good for future of music artists. We all know that downloading music we didn't pay for is stealing. The purpose of Youtube is to promote the music for you to buy it!
@MissMejiaHQ Who in their right mind would WANT to pay $35 for ONE song let alone 15? Some of us have to pay mortgages and put kids through school. AND most artist make most of their money playing shows that we are all STILL going to go to. At this point with all of the money I have wasted on music because MOST bands simply can't put out a good record anymore, I coudln't care less about the state of the music industry.
@ccaccord07 What the hell does that mean? So I should pay another $20 so I can get the CD in a cardboard sleeve that is gonna rip all because it has ONE more song on it? I have enough crap lying around to buy these stupid deluxe editions. I was perfectly fine with buying the CD and all of the iTunes/Amazon extras but for ONE more song, you people are gonna cry over it?
@KeVideo22 it means you should pay it, if you wanna pay it ,it made more sense to pay it before the album was out because the website made it unclear if the non deluxe version was gonna have the three bonus tracks available, and you could get the album a week early, with the lithograph,
@ccaccord07 I think the website made it clear that "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" would be the only non-lp track. I didn't think iTunes was going to allow downloading of the other ones without purchasing the whole CD (which would be a scam in itself). Another thing, the EP they put out beforehand has the 4 best songs on the album on it and they were charging $15 for those 4 songs at shows.. They should have put something exclusive on that.
@MissMejiaHQ The fact that this video was put up to promote buying the new CD is crap becuase the song was for the PRE-order version that contained 2 songs that were on iTunes and ONE (this one) that wasn't. I paid $7.99 for the CD at Target, and $1.29 each for "Postcards", "Rough Boys", Home (Acoustic)" & "Something.. (acoustic)". $14 for all of that and they want another $35 for ONE more song. Yeah, ok..
@vita717 You can't officially get in anymore. It isn't on anything. It was on the pre-orders from their website that they wanted you to pay $35 for.. Another record company scheme to make you poor and them richer.

Yeah, ok..

@KeVideo22 No video wasn't originally put up for promotion, but now it is because we are getting the word out. OK.

So is this on the actual album...just not on the itunes version? I just ordered it...I hope it is! This song is awesome!

@vita717 It's only on the GooGoodollscom special order version.

@vita717 You can't officially get in anymore. It isn't on anything. It was on the pre-orders from their website that they wanted you to pay $35 for.. Another record company scheme to make you poor and them richer.
