This book is not only disturbing, it's downright wrong and sends the wrong message to ANY kid reading it, not just those that have been molested or are feeling confused over sexuality.
While I think it is a good book on teaching children if an adult touches you "in that way," that it is not ok and the ethics of how a functional family should work (not fighting, peaceful, etc.).. I still am ROYALLY confused on why they automatically assume that the root of homosexuality is being abused and molested as a child. First of all no MOLESTOR would just get talked to by a counselor - nor would they endanger the child that was molested by having them both in a room together . The thing that makes this book awkward for me to read is the combination of the title with the plot. because it is called "A gay's Journey" it generalizes the story to every gay indiviual, including ones who did, and did not experience this. If the title was different it would be easier to accept this book. Listening to the boys words in the story he genuinly does not sound like he's attracted to the physical contact just the loving attention.

I think it's a good idea to have a children's story about the child being touched by his uncle, as stories are often how children make sense of the world around them and important messages are often passed on through children's stories. I read it, it's not about being gay (it even say that what happened doesn't mean that he is gay O__O) it's not about a "gays" journey, it's a story meant to help kids who have been abused, just like there are children stories about their baby sister dieing before she was born yes it's disturbing but what about child molestation isn't?

If a little boy is molested by an adult female, neglected by his mom and grows up to be heterosexual (likes the opposite sex) , does it mean the boy is actually not heterosexual but is such due to his experiences ?

The thing that makes this book awkward for me to read is the combination of the title with the plot. because it is called "A gay's Journey" it generalizes the story to every gay indiviual, including ones who did, and did not experience this. If the title was different it would be easier to accept this book. Listening to the boys words in the story he genuinly does not sound like he's attracted to the physical contact just the loving attention.
Another title might be "Does that make me gay?"

This is great for kids that have to grow up in this situation and believe they are gay with all the propaganda around them that they probably are. My Uncle is the mirror image of this kid's Uncle that happened to molest my younger brother. People that fear this book must feel guilty for a reason. This book is about a kid in a difficult position in life, not about hating gay men.

The counselor was out of line. Even a therapist's job isn't to tell someone what they are or what they aren't. They're there to assist to finding conclusions and resolve. Homophobic propaganda, as someone put it. Though this story could be true for some, it is certainly not for all.

2. the reason they wouldnt put that in a book is becuz they dont want kids to know if they're gay or not (they could take playing tag the wrong way)
3. if you actually read the book you would have realised that he wasnt gay at all. he just needed fatherly love, which is a issue that isnt homosexuality but really close cuz you'll have a fondness for men.

I didn't think the kid was gay more than I thought the counselor was too forward. What he did was like leading a witness, albeit he was very right to act as he did on what he was told. I think it's a good idea to have a children's story about the child being touched by his uncle, as stories are often how children make sense of the world around them and important messages are often passed on through children's stories. Never go into strangers houses alone: Anyone remember goldilocks and the three bears? Hansel and Gretel?

Things didn't get better until highschool, when but that's because we had a Gay Straight Alliance, and I was homeschooled my entire senior year.
But yeah, my life was pretty much the same as everyone elses.
