  • all the naysayers are missing the point, he hated Cherry Pie because it was forced on them. rememeber, he said the album was finished. it was something to be proud of by the band. then they were forced to write a "love in an elevator" type single. and if you listen to the album, all songs are connected in a way except for.......you guessed it, Cherry Pie.

  • @brianintn Big Talkin' In the Sticks Down Boys Uncle Tom's Cabin I Saw Red Heaven D.R.F.S.R. Sometimes She Cries Bitter Pill........ all better than Cherry Pie.

  • damn i kno his daughter and went to school with her and had no idea that her father was jani lane wow

  • @vasilberkut you're an asshole! its always the talentless jealous little twats who make such ridiculous and insensitive comments for attention. jani had more talent in his little toe than you'll have in your whole sorry life!

  • blind faith was good too ^^

  • cherry pie , cherry juice, cherry tooth paste, cherry insulin, cherry mouth wash ,

  • Lost soul! Cherry-Pie was just one song. The fans loved more than that. Sad he focused on that. So many other great songs they did and would have liked to heard them play live. Sad how a soul gets lost and can't see the forest from the trees.

  • cherry pie is far from being their best song! When I think of Warrant I think of Blind Faith,Sometimes she cries \m/

  • This dead motherfucker is full of shit. He had a blast shooting that video and he married the blond girl Bobbie Brown.

  • I always remembered him for Heaven & Down boys, didnt care to much for cherry pie, but at the time it was a huge commercial success, but I never bought into it. Its to bad that he hated that song so much.

  • uncle toms cabin rules

  • It's a shame the song that the song that made them big was the song he hated. For the record I like the song, but as musicians, I'm sure they'd like to be known for the song they felt best about.

    Rest In Peace Jani.

  • i saw red

  • Talk about double edge sword. I wouldn't regret writing that song whatsoever. Even though he became the butt end of the jokes later on, he still achieved great success (Fame and fortune) and did what he wanted to do in his life (Music). How many can say that?

  • i love the song cherry pie but it is definetly NOT his best song he outta be known for like down boys or uncle toms cabin

  • This song sucked. However, Jani was a great songwriter and I feel sorry he wore this albatross that hung around his neck. His other songs later in life were very well written and I hope one day we'll all realize how creative he really was. He had his demons, but songs like Uncle Tom's Cabin and Mr. Rainmaker were very well written songs (not to mention Hole In My Wall). Give the guy a break, he fell victim to the machine.

  • "Sometimes she cries", "Heaven", "The bitter pill" Are master pieces. There is your Legacy. Gran maestro Jani Lane.

  • God thats the most depressing thing i've ever heard.

  • such is life, and life happens.....lol.just feel lucky you got the ride brother. and folks wont remember u just for that, unless that what you make of it, to the next ones, do it, and then just do it better.lol.sounds so easy dont it?.well.it aint....harder faster..case in point

  • R.I.P.... And for the record, I'll always remember you for Heaven, not Cherry Pie.

  • he wrote another song similar to Cherry Pie called "Ass Up Face Down Bitch" but the record company didn't think it was quite as catchy.

I wish he was still alive. His next solo album could be titled "Cherry Pie Guy Returns" which would be a techno/dance album including the song "Cherries are The Best".

  • Hollywood Rocks Documentary (Part 1 of 10) has a bit on Jani and Warrant

  • theres nothing wrong with that song. It was really hot at the time.

  • i heard after his funeral everybody was invited back to his family`s house for turkey and dressing and CHERRY PIE !!!!

  • he hates cherry pie and that happens to be awesome cherry pie is still popular and he said he wants to shoot him self for writing it

  • My wife was a big Warrant fan, and I tell you, Warrant was one of the best bands that came out of that genre. The BEST Warrant albums were "D.R.F.S.R." "Uncle Toms Cabin." I.E Cherry Pie. and the BEST, OF ALL 3, was "Dog Eat Dog". Man what an album, it was heavy, some songs were deep, and heartfelt. R.I.P. Jani.

  • Yeah Janie, your the "Cherry Pie" guy - you wrote that song; but I just wished you realized you gave millions of people memories with that song. I can hear it and know EXACTLY where I was, who I was with, what I was doing and thinking. The song takes you back better than a time machine.

    R.I.P. Janie

  • This guy was TOO LATE... and music was changing so fast, by the time it was released people were listening to other stuff.

  • i never liked that song and the video as well as well as his ex wife,

  • omg whats his problem that was a REALLY good song [he sounded and looked really drunk] but i understand how he feels about that song RIP jani

  • funny. i did not like that song cherry pie.

  • I knew this song was not Warrant but some type of abomination when I first heard it and saw the video, this was not the real Warrant but the execs pressuring them wanted a big hit, you see the damage this type of precedent can do to a band.

  • U didn't do anything wrong u had to play your cards...it was the time ...at the time. Man u influence me in music

  • thats sad... i wish he hadnt felt that way..but i can understand where he is coming from.

  • Guess he felt that the record companies had them all by the b**ls. Uncle Toms cabin was an awesome song though..and the album was solid..whats the story with the Dublin gaelic football shirt?

  • You had nothing to be ashamed of Sir.

  • Wow! would have never guessed.

UTC is a kicking tune, much respect.

  • that was actually a great song.

  • @vasilberkut if anyone deserves to die its your dumbass.

  • Heaven is my fav 80s power-ballet After More then words and Every Rose. There were a few good ones. Then Guns and Roses November rain ruined everything.

  • Later, he triedt o backtrack from these comments saying that VH1 goaded him into it and that he was "happy as a clam" to have written that song. What a load of bullshit. OK, maybe he had a bad day and the words he chose here were a little stonger than how he actually felt. But you don't just go on a tirade like that without there being SOME truth to it. You don't just say, "yeah, I hate that I wrote that song and it makes me miserable" without having some reason for having said it.

  • i'm glad he said that. i always HATED that song. They wrote so much better songs...Uncle Tom's Cabin should be his theme song.

  • That is sad to hear about that. I have that song "Cherry Pie" on my playlist CD, and I listen to it. People in the industry should not tell other artists what song to put out. Fiona Apple was right.

  • I SAW RED WAS HIS BEST SONG EVERRRRRRRR !

  • Our Tribute to / Last Interview with the Late JANI LANE episode of the TV Show.

    search FocusintheMixwithDeniseAmes on the web

  • The first time i heard Warrant was actually from "Uncle Tom's Cabin" , still like "Cherry Pie" though

  • Please don't remember Jani for Cherry Pie--it will make him spin in his grave. Instead, remember all the other awesome songs he wrote for Warrant and how deep they were, okay?

  • @lurch321 You said it well. He was well known and well talented for many other songs.

  • Jani should have been known for a SHITLOAD more songs than Cherry Pie. Personally, I never liked Cherry Pie - I would always skip it when it came on, then explain to whoever I was with how Warrant was amazing and it sucks that they are known for Cherry Pie only. RIP Jani, you were cool as hell.

  • i remember jani for "hole in my wall" damn that was a bad ass song..dog eat dog was a bad ass album..

  • Poor guy. A victim of the disgusting ticks and leaches of the record industry.

  • Anytime I listen to the Cherry Pie cd I always skip over Cherry Pie song to get to the better ones so no Jani you won't be remembered as the Cherry Pie guy ,atleast to me

  • Nice Dublin jersey he's wearing...

  • It's funny... You can always tell how much was put into a song. Cherry Pie was their worst song ever. And to see the origin of it makes so much sense. The industry has always been souless and insisted on mediocrity despite what FANS initially feel and express. It's just a shame that people buy into this. The industry tells people what they like.. and the people go "OKAY IF YOU SAY SO!" Such a talented guy... and to be glorified by a diddy that he practically wrote on the toilet is a tragedy.

  • @centinexslays He wrote it on a pizza box, which is at the rock and roll hall of fame i believe, but yeah its a shame, he/they should be known for the songs that they truly wanted to write, not what the industry wanted them to write

  • This is very sad :( I remember Jani said something to that effect in a VH1 documentary on groupies too.

  • hahaha I knew Warrant for Cherry Pie, but I like more Heaven and I Saw Red ^^

I don't like Cherry Pie too much... I prefer Uncle Tom's Cabin ^^

  • It's too bad, almost ALL of their songs were better than cherry pie.

    RIP Down Boy.

  • Well he didnt shoot himself in the head but drunk himself to death apparently. Lesson learned, don't always listen to the record company, go with your heart. Interesting how things would have went if they just called the Album "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and let the song "Cherry Pie" just be buried as a filler track towards the end of the album.

  • @zman1974

It was a different music business back then. You couldn't just write a record then self-release it on your own terms because there was no internet to spread your music. The record company would have either shelved the album or given it zero promotion if Jani didn't cave in to their demands.

  • @zman1974 I'm a big Warrant fan from '88 forward, and I think THAT was the problem ... The problem was that he wrote it. As soon as he demoed it and gave it to the guy, the record was called Cherry Pie. It was not a conversation after that ... As the song existed, that was gonna be the title ... it was in no way gonna be an album cut (like track #9 or something). Jani's desire to have Uncle Tom's Cabin as the lead track, let alone CD title, was history. Nobody cared. But, it rocks, it sold huge!

  • Rest in peace Cherry Pie Guy...

  • @RyanDirtyDub lol

  • why is he mad for writing a super popular song? a lot of bands struggle and never make it big. so sad.

  • @secutorclaudius Because he never wanted to write it in the first place. imagine yourself as a musician with pride, you want to make music that has integrity. Then a bastard from your record company wants you to write a bullshit, non-thinking song about nothing of intelligence like 'love in an elevator.' then that song gets radio play everywhere, leaving other serious songs in the dust as the record company pushes your band through the stratosphere on a single song that you never wanted to write

  • @Distortedrealms

Yeah, Warrant wrote songs full of pride and integrity. It was only the record company that "forced them" to wear matching white suits in the "Heaven" video. The record company "forced them" to write "Cherry Pie". The record company "forced them" to make overproduced pop instead of the gnashing of teeth metal that they really wanted to write. Why doesn't anybody see this is the point Ubuntu has been trying to make? Warrant = pre-fab overproduced poseur band. UBUNTU

  • @Distortedrealms - Well Said.....

  • @Distortedrealms but i don't get it. i wasn't a huge warrant fan but weren't most of their songs about pussy, partying and such?

  • @secutorclaudius no. hardly any of their songs where about that.

  • @secutorclaudius Check out the video for Uncle Tom's Cabin and ENJOY!!

  • @secutorclaudius Not really. "Typical" glam rock set up, yes, but some of their more famous songs ran much deeper. "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stnkin' Rich" was about crass capitalism and overconsumerism that somebody like Green Day would be proud to write today. "Down Boys" was about unrequited love and his unsuccessful attempts to get over it. "I Saw Red" was about a very painful experience Jani went through when he had a nervous breakdown. "Sometimes She Cries" about a young unwed mother...etc.

  • RIP JANI You will be sadly missed. You were an amazing song writer & lyricist. Hope you found Heaven...and finally @ peace with your soul.

  • What is it with these douche bags who give people shit for writing tributes to rock stars after they've died. From MJ to Amy Winehouse you hear "none of you cared while they were alive" and all that other crap. Just because you didn't run around your whole life telling people you liked Warrant doesn't mean you weren't a fan and even if you only like Cherry Pie, what difference does it make?

  • it's not like warrant's other songs are any good.

  • @topeldigital then you clearly haven't heard any...

  • Cherry Pie is such a funny song!...is not bad at all if you dont take it serious and you shouldnt...funny rhythms etc....the guitars are really good, you can still play those riffs today and is not as dated as Poison, Motley Crue songs are....great song to sing along and laugh!

  • I could understand why he felt such frustration with that song. The guy worked his ass of writing all the songs and it was never enough, had a massive hit, and then wasn't even known as Jani Lane anymore. That songs been on the Best 100 hard rock songs list, and the worst. Whatever caused him to die,he didn't deserve to leave in a motel room.

  • Uncle Tom's Cabin is one of the best rock songs and I ever heard, and the story is so nice. Its cip is one of the best I've seen too. I think these recording industry execs are the worst kind of lime you would ever find in grease-land.

  • DRFSR was the first tape I ever bought. I slept with it, I was in love with jani and their music

  • Ubuntu is amused by all the Warrant "fans" coming out of the woodwork now that Jani Lane has died. It is all "RIP Jani", "Warrant rockz", "Heavun was my favoritue song," Uncle tums cabin rocked", "I luved de 80zand wurrunt"...blah blah blah. Nobody ever admits the first (and only) Warrant song they ever heard was "Cherry Pie"...then "Heaven" after the Monster Ballads CD came out. And that Jani is a whiny bitch for dogging his only legit signature song. Uubuntu is wise and all knowing. UBUNTU

  • @ubuntungbelele and Ubuntu is a fucking idiot.

  • Being a "Cherry Pie" guy was a BLESSING for this guy! I wish I had that problem! I never realized what a loser Janie Lane had become. If this is real, it's REALLY SAD! This guy had it ALL going for him...look at him in this interview! HE threw it all away....nobody else....He just tried to blame his downfall on everybody but himself. SAD! R.I.P. Janie....I still love you bro but YOU and ONLY YOU threw it away....

  • I feel bad for Jani Lane --- the record label FORCED him to write "Cherry Pie".......he never wanted to do that stupid song......although he married a really hot chick from the video!

RIP, Jani ---- you got your revenge, bro!

  • I beleive he killed himself

  • Boo hoo, i wrote a hit song, boo hoo the record company did what they could to make my band successful, boo hoo they used me and all I got was money, platinum albums, radio play, chicks, drugs, and world tours singing for a living in front of tens of thousands of adoring fans, boo hoo.

  • @biffbyford wow, i feel sorry for you.

  • I heard that he passed and I immediately thought of this interview. :( Rest In Peace Jani Lane.

  • I remember Warrant more for "Heaven" actually.

  • @mjn76 Heaven for me too and my daughter too and she is only 16.

  • @mjn76 - I agree- Heaven is how I will always remember Jani too- sad interview :(

  • Rip, we were truly big fans of jani lane, very sad people can't be helped for their problems by people who are closest to them

  • The interview is cut, he actually said>

"I could shoot in the **** head for writing that song...but nah, I will rather keep on expending the big ass paycheck I received for it"

  • 1:10 This is how I predicted Jani Lane's death. May he RIP.

  • Guess he was lying.

  • Fucking Poor Bastard

  • RIP dude. U didn't deserve such f*king backlash. You had an awesome voice. RIP

  • On Jani's self-written bio he says he loves the song, I'm confused..

  • @terrancele He loves the song, he just hated how Warrant was only associated with that song

  • @terrancele Who knows. I think he wrote that bio right after getting married and maybe he was on some type of "high." He was obviously depressed at the time of the interview and maybe even intoxicated. Sometimes writers go through periods of loving and hating their work.

  • To bad jani, too bad real big bummer

    R.I.P<3

  • "I'm the Cherry Pie guy." That f'n sucks. He wrote almost every damn song for Warrant and those guys are touring with those songs and another lead singer. Now Jani's dead. wtf.

  • @lanceporter He wrote an entire album, recorded it and was getting ready to tour for it. Then he was told this is not good enough we need a pop sounding song to sell the album on the radio. He wrote cherry pie. If you are a musician and you spend a year writing and recording it takes alot out of you. Then to be told that the last year of life was a waste. I can not imagine the pain he felt. And it killed him. He was a true artist. He wrote great songs and could write what ever he wanted too.

  • RIP brother, you done your best and it was wonderful. Now rest peacefully. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

  • He's wearing an old Dublin GAA jersey!

  • God I feel bad for him. He wrote such amazing other songs and lyrics, but no one really knows that. It would suck to have your whole career based on a song that you didn't put your whole heart into. He was a great man and I will never see him as the cherry pie guy. You where and are warrant. And you will never be forgotten

  • Jani was a sweet guy. But he was also bitterly delusional. He regrets that he wrote Cherry Pie? What, as if Cherry Pie is the SOLE reason why no one mistakes Warrant for Pink Floyd?

  • No that won't be your legacy Jani...but great tunes like I saw red and Bitter pill will be.

Thats how i will remember you old mate.

Enjoy rest rest and your new life.

  • what exactly the title of the documentary that this scene was take out from ?

  • @szkcs It is called "Heavy: The Story of Metal" from 2006. A VH1 documentary.

  • @cappper1

    ahh thanks bro !!

  • @cappper1 any one know where i can get this video\

  • @szkcs he's lying.... its called "I fart on people for fun".

  • Maybe he was lying after all.

    RIP Mr. Warrant.

  • @TheSteakJustice How fucking morbid you dick

  • @MrGirlfucker So I'm guessing your, not a Warrant fan?

  • I hope he at least made a shitload of publishing money from that stupid song.

  • rip

  • good-bye Cherry Pie :0( R.I.P.

  • Wow, this is way less funny than when I watched it on TV a few years ago.

  • @violentjett shut your cunt muscle!!

  • @violentjett dick comment really.

  • Jani Lane was cool but I hated WARRANT music when I was a little boy growing up in the 80s. RIP JANI WE WILL MISS U!

  • Sad, i loved Warrant when they first came out. its a shame people know them for Cherry Pie, when they have so much better songs,, I never liked cherry pie and thought it was horribly tacky and when all the kids who listen to New Kids on the Block liked it u know u hate it

  • I got laid so much back in the day because of bands like Warrant. 1990 up in some chicks house I was trying to bang-she was a 17 yo virgin, Im 16 and she won't give it up! With my long hair looking like a rock star myself, and from the back pocket of my tight Levi butten fly jeans I pulled out a cassette set to play Heaven..the rest is history. That was some of the best Cherry Pie I ever had....

Thanks Jani, the music was Cheesy, but it was fun as hell, RIP

  • He died yesterday. RIP man. 1964-2011, 47yrs old.

  • Do you know how many artists who worked hard and never had any chart success at all? I know he was much more talented than "Cherry Pie," but it's hard to feel sorry for him for having a hit song.

  • really dude....Have some fucking respect. Thats how he felt....im sure you have regrets about certain things. So you shut the fuck up.

  • Boo Fuckin Hoo!!!! He made his money and had the life to go with it! Shut the fuck up crying like the spoilt unappreciating fool you are!

  • Jani... yeah you may of wrote "Cherry Pie"... but did you forget that you also wrote "Heaven", "sometime She Crys" , "I saw Red" "April 2031" some of the best ballads ever to come from that era?? Such a shame

  • Record companies suck monkey balls, one of the reasons I gave my dream up. Jewish fucking life draining shit machine is all it was. So for all you guys download the fuck outta some MP3's and sign to an independent. Dont believe for a slip second you are hurting any band by downloading their shit, its all smoke and mirrors bullshit. The bands make their money on the road and in merchandising, they make turds coins on the recordings.

  • Saddest VH1 moment ever

  • @AbsolutRussell Yeah, it was. Cause you could see the pain in his face and voice. The fact is, he's right..he got a raw deal. You listen to other songs on that same album "Song and Dance Man", "Uncle Tom's Cabin", "Blind Faith", etc. and you knew this guy was a tremendous writer. Even their other "party anthems" (i.e. "Down Boys", "D.R.F.S.R.") had sharp lyrics about life on the other side. The guy was immensely talented, yet goes down as the "Cherry Pie guy"

  • "I hate that fucking song. I could shot myself in the fucking head for writing that song." - Jani Lane.

  • I really hope Jani Lane came to terms with his Cherry Pie legacy. It may have been a fluff pop single, but it made a lot of people happy. That's hardly a bad thing.

  • @BrianTKessler you know brian; you have just earned some MAJOR karma points for saying that; nicely done

  • He loved to rock and roll. He loved to drink and swear a whole lot. Now this great voice is silenced. I waited for the day to hear new songs from him with Warrant ever since 2001. And this is one is one of those powerful songs that grabbed so much attention. Here's to Jani.

  • rip

  • Sad, sad, sad....

  • so u guys think he did shoot himself ?????

47 too early to go for alcohol!

he seems like the type of guy

that might just end it !

crazy ! crazy ! my first concert

was poison warrant flesh n blood

    tour! with warrant .

  • @chris76061 47 isn't too young to die from alcohol abuse. Neither is 25. It happens. I imagine after seeing this video and reading up a bit about his career choices that he wasn't a very happy person at all, despite the fame and fortune.

  • RIP Jani... This truely did you in!!!

  • RIP Jani

  • I can't believe he's dead, and today shit rip, jani great singer, and heaven was a great song as well, always believe in yourself no matter what you friend's mite say.!!!!!!!

  • R.I.P.

  • R.I.P. Jani.

  • What a shame man. So that's why the song sucked so bad. So glad to hear that he DIDN'T like writing that piece of pie....I mean crap. Typical record company bullshit. "Com'on Jani, I gotta make some more money off of you. Write something that's absolutely as shallow a kiddie pool, it'll sell millions and I'll be able to shove more cocaine up my nose!" You can tell he REALLY, REALLY regrets writing that song!

  • Sweet Cherry Pie!!!! Did he really die????

  • RIP Janie......to young

  • R.I.P. JANI.

whatta great singer and rocker -3

    greatly missed ! luv u forever !

  • R.I.P

  • R.I.P Buddy

  • uh , cherry pie was great ... Warrant was great.

We loved your music man R.I.P

    what a damn shame...

  • is that only an impression or Jani gets pissed off because people only remember him as Cherry Pie writer? The only ones that do it are the mediocres, the rock n' roll lovers know more than Cherry Pie related to him...

  • R.I.P. Jani Lane

  • You musta been lying cause youre dead

  • honestly I think Heaven is better than cherry pie imo

  • Cherry Pie is a great song but I can see where he's coming from if you're only remembered for one song. He also needs to understand that there are other fans like myself who actually listen to the whole album and appreciate every song, not just the singles.

  • well Jani you unappreciative Mo Fo why don't you take all the money you made from it and give it to charity. You fans (if u have many after that comment) know you for more than that. If it wasn't for that song you probably wouldn't be a blip on the radar..be thankful..looks like you been liven in a good paddock..must have made you some coin!! You guys had some cracking songs..but now every time i think of you i will think..what a jerk...

    Happy trailss

  • TOOL

  • im the fuckin cherry pie guy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This....Poor guy! Haha

    gayest song ever...
