  • MAN, I wish the quality was better. Still, wow... What a band.

  • cornell is actually very talented on the guitar too

  • 1:12 !!

  • its amazing how deep a song can be about the effects of fireworks when youre on LSD.

  • Amazing.

  • Holy fuck Cornell nails the vocals!

  • SOUNDGARDEN KOM TILLBAKA TILL SVERIGE VI BEHÖVER ER!!!!

  • I'm going to try to sneak into Lollapalooza to see them tomorrow.

  • @thespainisharmada did you get in?

  • @guilhermecarneiro1 No I didn't. I got in the last 3 years by sneaking in, but I got blindsided by some gigantic security guard. No wonder tickets were so much more this year. They beefed up security big time.

  • It's like Chris Cornell is some kind of fallen angel sent to Earth to tell us of the world's coming destruction. And at 3:46 Kim Thayil is the devil egging him on. Beautiful song.

  • So claustrophobic, so gruesome, so eerie. Sounds like the end of the world. Awesome

  • God thinks Chris Cornell is the best singer he ever created. Here is another tidbit. The devil has Soundgarden on his Ipod.

  • The microphone feedback only adds to make the song even creepier....

    It actually HELPS!...

    Amazing.....

  • YES

  • The bridge has always been my favorite part! Always! I always associate this song with cloudy spring weather, just before a thunderstorm. I LOVE THEM

  • SO HEAVY! SO EMOTIONAL SONG!

    REUNION!

  • When I die they are going to play the 4th at my funeral

  • One of my fav songs! SO HEAVY, just fanastic! ( I miss the 90's....)

  • I love this song, really emotional and cool at the same time

  • they probably like this song in sweden because it's dark there all the time. i like this song.

  • lol, its not dark all the time, over here. We're havin summer and its really hot and light.

  • que rolota.... y cantaba bien vergas tssssssss!!

  • i agree that it will not be as good as they were in the 90s but its still worth having a reunion. I know if they come around me im going

  • my football team comes out to this song, walk out nice and slow. I've been told its actually scary

  • Badass!!! If I was a player of the other team, I'd be scared, no shit.

  • my favorite soundgarden song, its black sabbath meets pink floyd

  • Yes.

  • This song was like a slow motion train wreck in my brain when I first listened to it. The best song IMHO in their career, it gives me the chills after all these years... which means only one thing: MASTERPIECE!

You don't get the same intensity in today's bands, at least I don't seem to. I was lucky to be a kid in the '90s.

  • Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When I forst heard that moster of a riff and Chris wailing all over it I shat myself.

  • yes the best soundgarden song, great GREAT band.

  • brings me back to partying in the 90's! awesome!

  • This is "the" best Soundgarden song.

  • Agreed bro,

    Best Soundgarden song ever!

"And down in a hole, Jesus tries to crack a smile ... beneath another shovel load"

    Best lyric ever!

  • word!!

  • omg fucking soundgarden needs to get back together... all of soundgardn... the actual full set up of soundgarden haha... like for real... i would pay any price to see that show

  • chris can't even hope to hit half of what his vocal range used to be. i don't think a reunion would be as great as everyone thinks it would be because of this fact, it would be sad and embarrassing for chris. i love soundgarden, their my favourite band, but i really think its best the band doesn't get back together.

  • actually, his voice is in pretty good shape these days. not as intense as he used to be but he's doing a lot better than he was a few years ago. it's his new music that's a problem.

  • not only that, but we all can see that the only reason why chris cornell will make a reunion is money. Chris' heart doesn't beat for those songs anymore.

Soundgarden is my favourite band along with Alice In chains, but I don't want it to reunite.

  • @ahmettc hehehe, looks like your wish has come untrue

  • @AzaDee78 hopefully I will be proven wrong :)

  • I thought the same, but it's not true. His voice has good days and bad days, but it always did. I've seen stufff he's done recently where he hit evrything perfectly. He's still got it.

  • this song is one of this best from

the 90's this video is just shit

    quality..no offense!

  • as much as i like this song. i think black hole sun is the better of the two....

  • HA and your basing this on this SHITY video... WOW you have no idea what you are talking about... what music do you listen to? let me guess... its either some terrible emo shit, or rap...l both are garbage... esp. rar... omg its bad

  • rap*

  • actually, i listen to country, i hate emo and rap

  • Comment removed

  • lmao country?! Ha ha perfect.

  • wow talk about ignorant... this song is out of tune for a reason. Have you listened to any other song off of Superunknown?

  • its not even soundgarden

  • Yeah...but there are other versions of this song where it is perfectly in tune. I think they were just simply out of tune on this one.

    Either way...Soundgarden use to rock.

  • how the hell can you say cornell(or even soundgarden) has no talent!??!?!? they are one of the most influential bands of all time

  • First seattle band to ever sign with a major label. One of the top rock albums of all time by rolling stone.

  • This song is just menacing.

  • One of the best songs of the 90's!!

  • genius, expressive, talentuous. Soundgarden created the modern rock, a genre too much abused nowadays.

  • you know that

  • actually nirvana did it but soundgarden played a major part.

  • 1:14. There aren't words to express how badass that sounds. So fucking evil. Loooooove it!

  • Chris has the most beautiful voice in rock'n roll. You can't make a cover of Chris, Soundgarden, Audioslave.

  • Yeah, Chris is one of the best...But, Operator's singer sounds exactly like him. I mean EXACTLY like Chris Cornell. So, he can be covered.

  • Holy shit your right, I just checked Operators stuff, he sounds EXACTLY like Cornell. I mean, he's a good singer and all but dude get your own style... I heard a hard rock tune on the radio that sounded like Cornell a while back, and now im pretty sure it was that guy.

  • Yep...its true. The funny thing is, Soundgarden just played a show with Operator's singer and is thinking about getting back together using him instead of Cornell.

  • U must be joking...

  • Nope...not on this one. If it happens, it will be the ultimate slap in the face.

  • I'm not sure what I would think of it.

  • they couldn't that treacery 2 all of the fans 2 get back without cornell

  • Cornell's voice is incredible.

  • The recording is from 1995 which should explain prettymuch everything.

  • favorite soundgarden song

  • this performence is so good it should be illegal. =D

  • Say what you want, but in my humble opinion Soundgarden was the coolest band in the whole grunge scenario.

4th of July is my favorite song! Thank you for this video.

  • I agree best ever seattle style band.

  • Chris Cornell is a genius for writing this song, and a God on the vocals.

    what a song!!!

  • 4:14 - Woah. 4:30, woooooooooah!! I really really really want to sing like that. But I am mortal.. :|

  • such a song of ambiance & atmosphere -- riveting imagery --- damned apocalyptic - i'll never be tired of this song........

  • this song and the lyrics for limo wreck show his writing genius

  • That song is an anthem...

    Fuckin' perfect!!!

  • Great voice, and great riffs.

I really miss this era of rock music..

  • Man, I don't know about any of you guys but I would KILL to be a teen in the nineties.

  • Agree. I could drink by now if I were a year younger.

  • Soundgarden at their best playing dark, heavy sludge. This could be the soundtrack to virtually any catastrophe.

  • Yup, the univeral catastrophic theme, or should be....Well, that's what makes Soundgarden special, right?

  • I like this song. I've always thought it sounded better live as well.

  • this is beautiful

  • this is what chris cornell got his reputation from... wailing his motherfuckin vocal chords out

hes 43+ years old and still goin hard... thats what its all about

    fuck the haters

  • WWHHOOAA!!

  • Listen to that voice. Fucking ripping your flesh apiece.

  • wat guitar is chris playin again??

  • why the hell is soundgarden the only major band that doesnt have a dvd? it may involve chris's ex wife but still

  • the end of the times anthem!

  • Yah, that boy Chris can fuckin' sing. Love and praise.

  • Everything was right about Soundgarden and this song shows it. Great drums, great guitar and bass and nothing can match Chris' voice. Amazing stuff.

  • amen

  • Shower in the dark day Clean sparks driving down Cool in the waterway Where the baptized drown Naked in the cold sun Breathing life like fire Thought I was the only one But that was just a lie Cause I heard it in the wind And I saw it in the sky And I thought it was the end And I thought it was the 4th of july Pale in the flare light The scared light cracks & disappears And leads the scorched ones here And everywhere no one cares
  • The fire is spreading And no one wants to speak about it Down in the hole Jesus tries to crack a smile Beneath another shovel load (chorus) Now Im in control Now Im in the fall out Once asleep but now I stand And I still remember Your sweet everything Light a roman candle And hold it in your hand (chorus)
  • His voice is unbelievable on this video.

    Such a fantastic song.

  • This song helps me deal with my deep rage

  • HAhahahahhaahahaha

  • hahaha i totally agree

  • Good for you! I love this song and glad it's helping you out. I practice my left handwriting by writing this song's lyrics on the back of my notes while in boring lectures xD

  • ok the name of this song is 4th of July not

    4th July.

  • 2 much feed back at times?

  • i love soundgarden as well as all the grunge bands because of songs like this. The lyrics are more like poetry than anything else.

  • You'd never know it was about a day when chris droped acid

  • Does anyone else besides me enjoy "Like Suicide" the most off Superunknown.

  • Like Suicide is one of my favorite Superunkown songs.

I probably listen to it to the least though. For some reason, I only listen to it when it's the right moment.

    It's one of those songs.

  • Haha, I listen to it like that as well. I have the song associated with one specific night back in 2007 when me and my friends drank vodka and walked around town all night.

  • Okay then. I'd love to say that mine is a similar moment. But it's not.

I love the lyrics. If you wiki the song, it's got a REALLY cool backstory.

  • I have wiki'ed it, and it is quite cool.

  • is that the night where you didnt even drink a full shot of vodka and you walked around with ("friends") 3 girls that came to see me that you didnt even know? and they didnt know you?

  • Yes you're right I guess the word friends shouldn't have been used, but it was 3/4 of a glass worth of Vodka. Remember it took me like 20 minutes just to finish it.

  • im pretty sure i had a sore throat when i drank my glass and i could barly talk afterwords

  • The riff sounds like My Dying Bride's style... very doomish

  • Soundgarden's doom-iest song. Love this shit.

  • this is my favorite soundgarden song

  • I also thought I was the only one who liked this song... never got much attention like the others... so unique to the others as well. Sooo heavy and moving, fave song of superunknown

  • wow i thought i was the only one who loved this song!! i think it's awesome..so dark and deep. My guess is that it's talking bout the end of the world...

  • that song is incredible. alice in chains and soundgarden could really get some dark sounds. i think it's hard for bands to immitate alice and soundgarden because they are so unique. it's easier to immitate nirvana--bush, and pearl jam--creed, or be the product of nirvana and pearl jam--silverchair.

  • it's hard for everytype of bands imitate SG, AIC, STP, PJ, QOTSA, etc... they're in other music level, they put his lives in their music, so they're so unique as persons, I agree that nirvana and that bands are easy to imitate in covers or sound, men, but PJ are not easy to imitate, if someone could maybe got a little talent...i think man

  • this is the tour where chris found out he was damaging his vocals and they had to cancel shows towards the end

  • i think it´s to hard to favourite a song on this album!!!

i like nearly every song on superunknown

    sry 4 bad english^^

  • Yeah i agree.

somedays i like this song more than others. somedays its some other song.

    like My Wave or Half.

my fav album is BadMotorFinger to.

  • I agree. I've been bumpin that album alot lately. My top fav on that album are: Limo Wreck, Black Hole Sun, 4th of July, My Wave and Head down. I also love Mailman.

  • my favourite songs too!!!:)

but i love the whole album!!

  • Head down is one of the coolest songs i've ever heard. is that ben singing most of it?

  • Cool to see I'm not the only one who thought this was the best song on a great album. What an insane sludgy, indeed "foggy" riff. Sounds like a T-Rex trying to walk though quicksand.

  • i think it;s the best tune on the album too, followed by head down, if u like those kind of riffs, ud definately like alice in chains

  • I love Alice in Chains...been listening to them since 1990.

  • i just wish there was a live dvd or an unplugged show or something.. anything.. i can't believe they didn't do unplugged...

Does anyone know where i can find that evanescence cover? i've searched high and low..

  • scary magnificento song super soundgarden here , well their always super sound ha

  • Best song on Superunknown

  • ere globen?

  • history will show the lack of decent recordings of SG is a real loss. they were incomparable but uneven live. my favorite Thayil riff - did i say incomparble ?

  • One of my favourites! I read on Wikipedia it was covered by... Evanescence! I'm curious to see the disaster...

  • Bootleging should be praised and made legal. Soundgarden was to lame to record those great shows and making them public, so the fans had to take over. Great, great recording.

  • "Bootleging should be praised and made legal. Soundgarden was to lame to record those great shows and making them public, so the fans had to take over"

    ***********

There's a raw quality to these bootlegs that wouldn't exist on some slick, over-engineered three camera production.

Still, it would be nice if we could have the audio feed in directly from the board instead of the Lo-Fi camera mic.

Not complaining, but some of the audio range is lost. I doubt anyone could disagree.

  • I concur. I have some incredible bootlegged performances, and it's a shame that the audio quality is so lacking; those performances deserve to be preserved.

  • Jesus tries to crack a smile beneath another shovel load....

  • That line always gives me chills down my spine... what a great song, so heavy, dissonant!

  • thank u thank u 4 posting. ive been wish 2 here this live just ones. my fav off superunknown. now we jus need mindriot or tighter and tighter live

  • I still don´t understand how can is possible to sing in that tone and force a complete live-show. A genius!!!

  • Anyone got vids from other shows from this tour?

  • I think this is where Soundgarden was experimenting with a note that would be so low it would be absorbed into the bowels of the human body and cause the audience to all unexpectedly shit their pants at once.

  • lol

i bet they shit and piss their pants at the same time

  • Haha... yeah! I was there. It really happened... shhhh

  • this a one my favorite song of superunknow, very heavy song!

  • Obrigado Senhor!!!!!

    Isso é raro hein!!

    Thank you my Lord!!

    This is rare, dude!!

  • amazing. my favorite song of all time and i finally heard it live. beautiful. thanks for this

  • Soundgarden's favorite Soundgarden song, too.

  • wow, i didn't know that. thanks for that information. if it was their favorite song why didn't they play it more often live though?

  • I love this song, very Black Sabbath-ish :)

  • Heavy heavy foggy riff

  • Definitely one of Soundgarden's greats.

  • beautiful brings tears to my eyes

  • oh man....amazing never thought they'd play this one live!
