  • Roger Gracie beat Robert Drysdale twice

  • Shameful lack of respect. How sad.

  • Comment removed

  • For sure Marcelo deserve alot of respect, he still strong on adcc 2011 even thought he is an old warrior.

  • Only barefeet on the mat dumbasses

  • But the real victory was how much of a A-hole Drysdale was.

  • haha And they drop him.

  • Good display of technique drysdale BJJ.

  • Lmao, guy is like 10x bigger than marcelo. He needs to relax. Pound for pound it isnt even a question who would win.

  • @RazerSharpSoul Sure, but if Marcelo had won, there would be no excuses. Big or small, it's still all about skill and technique. Drydale was simply better at applying that skill.

  • Take your fucking shoes off before you go on the mat.

  • a good win but bad sportsmanship and very bad ettiquette displayed by the winner and his supporters. gives bjj a bad name in ma...and i like bjj very much. they should learn by watching what happened when Geesink won the 1964 olympic judo comp...now there's a lesson in good manners.

  • Proud much lol

  • @Cryttan I would be proud if I submitted Marcelo Garcia.

  • Marcelo was taking chances and being aggressive so I give him credit. I had him winning until the choke.

  • marcelo is the greatest of all time

anyone would be ecstatic to have beaten him

  • marcelo needs to work on his wrestling and explosiveness..bad shoot very bad..drysdale capitalized on it fast

  • @shoto520 a lot of grapplers arent explosive. it really shows when they transition to mma.

  • weigh is a small advantage in bjj. Ballance is way more important. If you have no ballance the weight is a gift

  • That sub happening was 90% Marcelo making a bad shoot.

  • wow, the lack of respect he showed Marcello kinda pisses me off, thats one of the biggest accomplishments of Drysdale's whole life and he celebrates like a little kid, then just pats Marcello on the back. i hate that lack of respect between great athletes :/

  • @DetectiveDaggerz did u expect him to bow and kiss Marcello's feet? he shook his hand and obviously has alot of respect for him

  • @DetectiveDaggerz He is fighting Marcelo; it's not his duty to idolize Marcelo like you do and it would be harder to fight if he did.

  • Subbing Marcelo is a HUGE accomplishment no matter how much you outweigh him. Marcelo has been tooling bigger guys in ADCC a while now.

  • Quit complaining about weight classes. It's one, open, but two. Small guys have advantages too. Do you see how squirrelly Marcello is? He's fast as shit, where as someone like Drysdale has to be a little less aggressive so as not to get out positioned. The weight difference isn't more than 30 pounds anyhow.

  • I love when ppl say oh hes twice his size...umm its called absolute for a reason idiots. High level Bjj guys go in knowing it is top level and you could face any one at any size.

  • M.G is half his size.

  • @clebervic He is also human and makes mistakes as few and far between as they may be. Marcelo probably is the best p4p grappler in the world but even he makes mistakes.

  • @clebervic Duhh, it is an open weight class. You can't compete in an open weight class and then complain about being too small or too big.

  • Hard to beat someone this big and this technical ... even if you ARE Marcello Garcia.

  • cagada

  • Is that a darce? Everyone is saying darcy, but isn't a darce, like, the opposite? Arm kind of goes under his neck rather than around the head? Is this more of a north south, or an anaconda? I dunno. Lol.

  • @DGrant1010 It's a darce. Choking arm goes from armpit to the neck on the other side. Anaconda is neck to armpit. Drysdale finishes the choke from a funny angle at the end, almost from a north-south position, so I can understand the confusion. it's a darce/brabo though.

  • Comment removed

  • Is it acceptable nowadays for that many people to run all over the mats in their shoes?

  • yo was that a north south choke, or a D'arce/brabo choke?

  • @nakedyoga420 D'arce

  • @nakedyoga420 darce/brabo

  • All these people talking about a weight difference being a deciding factor should take about 20 minutes and watch some of the videos of MG over there>>>>.

He consistently beats guys that outweigh him.

In this match he(MG) left his neck exposed and Drysdale took advantage, plain and simple. Marcelo didn't complain...why is anyone else?

  • i dont see why people are saying drysdale cant win against someone in his weight class, the reason he is in absolute is because he beat everyone in his weight class and absolute is where all of the really good experienced fighters go.

drysdale jiu jitsu all the way

  • Stay classy, drysdale.........

  • you see how happy they get when they win grappling matchs agaisnt brazillians.. IF they win

  • @jinwonah What's your point?

  • @jasonarmstrong1982 it means people know we are on top.. winning a fight agaisnt us is more than a victory, big stuff... imagine mexicans making better sushis than japs

  • @jinwonah Ok man. When the name calling starts, that's when I know the conversation is over. Peace....

  • @jasonarmstrong1982 come on broo, dont be so sensitive.. my bad

  • @jinwonah Alright alright. Maybe I was being a little sensitive. That's what happens when I'm not stoned. I guess I should smoke more. Sorry....

  • @jasonarmstrong1982 agree 100 with u

  • Drysdale is a big boy though, isn't he? Damn.

    Good match.

  • He should be allowed to celebrate, Garcia is one of the greats and you can bet would of been a permanent fixture in drysdale's mind throughout the whole build up to the comp. Great win and a well deserved celebration.

  • try doing that to competition your own size drysdale...not going to happen....marcelo is god

  • I don't think you guys realize how big of a deal it is to beat marcelo garcia by submission, no matter how much bigger you are than him. Seriously. It's like winning the world fucking series. Look at how drysdale was cautious with him.

  • Wow!! Really I thought they were the same size!! Lol

Listen .. I'm not saying it's unfair or knocking his achievement but he's 6 ft 3 and 205 lbs Garcia is like 5 ft 9 and 170 ffs!! That's kind of a BIG advantage!!

  • just a tad bit excited there robby

  • Bit of a over celebration when you out weigh a guy by so much but hey suppose he was just in the moment.

  • @robm2092 IT'S AN OPEN WEIGHT CLASS!

  • Drysdale went overboard on the celebration there, even it was MG, who was by the way pressing the action. Show a little respect for a great grappler in MG. Roberts excellent too but could have been a bit more contained in his celebration, suppose he was a bit relieved too.

  • Drysdale went overboard on the celebration there. Beating the smaller guy when MG was pressing the action, poor form from robert for such a good Bjj player to get

  • How can people complain about the weight difference? Fuck, the weight difference is the only thing that even makes it a competition for Marcelo. When's the last time he lost in his weight class lol?

  • @willman808 pablo papovich :P

  • @newerest1 Popovitch is usually 1 weight class over Marcelo. Marcelo has to go up in weight to meet him. You can tell when they compete against one another who is the larger opponent.

  • @LemonNation yeah well back when they had day before weigh ins papovich was able to win on points against him in his own weight class - and he cheated - im not saying papovich is better at all

  • Awesome, this is one hell of a plus for Drysdale Jiu Jitsu, he actually beat Marcelo García... Nice!

  • sometimes... goliath has to win too

  • A darce of a sprawl, nice. Marcelo Garcia losing, very rare.

  • Weight didn't even matter in this match, I'm a HUGE Marcelo Garcia fan, but he left his neck open. There wasn't even a set up lol just grab n go.

  • @cleve101 It was grab and go because he had the weight advantage.

  • I think that the sound of their feets sliding on the mat is awsome

  • people are seriously complaining about smashing? wow, he caught him in the shoot. its not like he double legged him, smothered through side control, smashed with knee on belly, chilled in mount and then powered through a kimura or something...

  • @nvcreations

Not to mention has beat some giants before. Plain and simply he got caught, on another day it could have been Drysdale. These same people who are bitching about the size are the ones who enter the open class as white belts get their shit kicked and think it's because of the weight. I have to fight unlimited and I don't like ending up with guys who weight 80 lbs more than me, but shit happens. Totally agree.

  • All those fools run on the ma with their shoes on.

  • Despite the loss Marcelo Garcia is still the Best Pound for Pound Submission Wrestler/Grappler in the world.

  • yeah sorry, it's brabo choke

  • nice bravo choke!

  • @pabloboloman pretty sure it's a braBo not a braVo choke.

  • @pabloboloman Isn't it named Brabo choke or D'arce choke?

  • @niclassj Brabo choke is with the gi (when you are going knee through or are in knee on belly) and you feed the far lapel around to your side and feed it through to your inside arm that you are reaching around his head in a circular range of motion. Darce is the same reach through motion as the brabo except you are reaching under the guys arm and finishing it with the same clasp as the RNC. The brabo finish doesn't use the guys arm and is similar to a baseball choke grip.

  • @speshalsauz Ah, I see. Thanks!

  • @speshalsauz Yes the Brabo is a gi choke but it is perfectly acceptable to call the no-gi version a Darce or a Brabo. Bill Cooper even calls it a Shaolin. It has a lot of names, but the reality is that it's an awesome choke.

  • True, if if the guy's skills are 100 percent better but the other guy has 50 or 60 lbs advantage, it makes it hard. Garcia made a mistake tho leaving that space after he stuffed the shot. Hard to work arm drags on a guy that big, he should've pulled guard but then again he probably would rather work on top. Lot of smaller guys don't like huge guys trying to smash their guard.

  • @speshalsauz GREAT POINT i have a brown belt in my class who made a career out of smashig big guys but now he's literred with injuries

  • he beat him fair and square dosent matter if he waited for the shot, marcelo knew what he was doing and got caught that simple

  • Garcia is still better P4P.

  • how can you blame someone for using a weight advantage in an OPEN WEIGHT CLASS. If you joing an open weight division then you know you are going to be going against big dudes, part of it. I weigh 200lbs, in an open weight class u bet your ass I am going to smash my weight on a 140 lb dude

  • @joebeast15 Exactly, if you don't wanna deal with the weight disadvantage then don't enter it.

  • @joebeast15 Not true in BJJ, but it did work this time.

Even with such size, theres always a chance.

  • @joebeast15 you're right about that. i think everyones complaining because drysdale isn't the better bjj player he just outweighs marcello by 30-40 lbs. you might be a fat shit who doesn't grapple with anybody who has that much of a weight advatange over you. when its that big of a diff technique on the big guys part goes out the window. he muscled his way in with the d'arce and he deff muscled his way to the finish too. drysdale WOULD NOT have pulled that technique off on somebody his size.

  • @KaratekaKid That was his strategy, look where it got him. Don't criticize because he doesn't jump in and shoot takedowns. He waits, and it pays off.

  • @KaratekaKid I'm the biggest Garcia fan there is, but the weight advantage wasn't unfair. It was the Open weight division and Marcelo is a big boy, who knew what he signed up for. He got 7 submissions that weekend, and this was the only match he lost. When Drysdale celebrated, he just beat the p4p best sub grappler and won the ADCC ABSOLUTE DIVISION BY A SUBMISSION OVER MARCELO FUCKING GARCIA!!! How is that bad sportsmanship? He used good technique (Darce/Brabo choke) to win, and celebrated.

  • @KaratekaKid Not only that, but Marcelo joked afterwards that he still had 8 subs that weekend if you included his loss to Drysdale. When his coaches asked if he needed to work on quicker single legs, defending the Darce choke, etc, all Marcelo did was smile and say, "I need to be faster!" How cool is that? Stop tearing down Robert Drysdale to build up Marcelo Garcia. Both are living legends.

  • @KaratekaKid get a life. its an open division. These guys are at the top of their game -at this level you use whatever you have to your advantage.

  • sick of watching much bigger opponents just wait for the smaller guy to make a move. watch garcia vs roger gracie and you will understand. wasnt impressed with the larger opponent either time. good grapplers but size is the only difference

  • marcelo shouldnt have shot...fuck..

  • garcia is a beast

  • ...are they even in the same weight class? o.O good match none the less :)

  • @chrisSosa is that a silly question? no this is absoluto division, big difference

  • damn ... awesome

  • WOW.

  • WOW
