Always my biggest obstacle: How do you keep the string(s) you don't want to sound from sounding when your bending runs into them?
Is it just about right hand (palm) muting while you're picking? I'm always running into the next string, especially higher on the neck. Any help, anybody?
@pyannaguy When your bending the tip of your finger should run into the next string up, thus muting it. Also make sure your using as many fingers possible to bend. like if you bending with your ring finger. your middle and pointer should be helping the string up. But really like every little thing on guitar takes lots and lots and lots and lots of practice. one day you'll just get it, then you'll look back thinking "how did i ever struggle with that?"
@tMattLZ Thanks! I just put the guitar down after a little practice focussing on your tips and I was getting better results. And, like you say,: the "secret" is doing it hundreds of times, then repeating that.
I have to apologise for the less than tactful nature in which I presented my comment, .
What I ment to convey was that what you did was a single sring bend and pedal steel guitar has multiple bends happening at the same time, and when I saw the post I guess I was looking for that kind of thing and took it out on you with a bad comment .Again I apologise for my behavour, you are a good picker and I'm sorry if I demeaned you in any way...it was never my intetion.
Hey man..not to put ya down in any way..BUT that's just simple string bends. I have played with some of the top steel players in Canada, and when you've mastered 2 and 3 string bends..then you can call them steel licks, what you're doin is good...just not steel licks...Keep pickin.
these lessons shaped the way my band sounds today i looked at these 2 years ago and learn the licks and then incorporated them into my rythum playing (im not a lead guitarist) and they sound really great! cheers for the post
thanks for showin this stuff and explaining where they fit. I'm just a poor redneck who love playin' guitar and these free lessons are sweet. I'll pay you back someday.
I have a friend who can make his guitar sing like a pedal steel. He always does it during a nights performance to try and show up their pedal steel player.Funny!!
