To put it simply, lyrical would be considered a "pretty dance" with perhaps a slow song to go along with it. Contemporary, in theory, has no boundaries, so it would consist of more "quirky" rather than traditional moves.

To be exact...to put it simply, lyrical is a dance that is danced to lyrics...not a "pretty dance". most lyrics have raw emotion and can mix in with contemporary

lyrical contains more specific dance moves. that have names and is more orderly. contemporary is more abstract and if i can say "whacky" lol. its just more undefined dance moves.

Generally lyrical has more defined movements as mentioned already. Most of the time it will be a mix of ballet and jazz moves. This piece has some other characteristics which are less defined which I would consider as contemporary or even an "open" number where elements of different styles of dance are used together in one piece as you see lyrical movements but then some other contemporary or less defined movements. Either way this is an unbelievable dancer here!

You know in person I think Paula does not look too skinny:) But she is very tone. She is the sweetest girl in the dance community to my daughter who totally idolizes her!!! And there is something to be said for a 15 or 16 yr old making time when busy at a dance comp to have a little conversation w/little kids.
