I want to know what the fifes are playing because I've heard it in History Channel Civil War PC game. Could you tell me what it is? I will greatly appreciate it.
For everyone complaining about the weight of the Confederates, welcome to the 21st Century. If you want 19th century realism, people will have to shrink, die earlier, ditch electricity and everything powered by it. People will need to eat like someone in the 19th century and agriculture will have to use methods used in the 19th century. Say good bye to billions of people. Any volunteers? Que the crickets. No volunteers? Thought so.
@Alfredo Gracias por el comentario. Nosotros no discriminamos en quién va a participar. En segundo lugar, hay un debate en curso acerca del papel de los afro-americanos en esa guerra.
@kimberlysluv Welcome to the 21st Century. If all reenactments held to a strict "historical height and weight only" set up, there would be no reenactments.
hi guys to see a new video about the battle of mannasas(the first battle of the civil war) come visit srvztube channel to watch Battle of Manassas reenactment 150th Anniversary.
Thank you for watching my video. Membership in these units is all volunteer and as far as I know, none discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, or physical ability to maintain their non profit status (at least mine doesn't). Secondly, look at my facebook photos of the Gettysburg 2008 reenactment and you will see many African Americans portraying dismounted cavalry. If you are interested in this activity, find a unit near you and join. Recruit others to join with you.
@OzzyFan87 Well, like they say,"The Yankees are too tall and the Confederates are too fat." If you think you would look better, get in uniform and join a unit.. As for marching, I'm field artillery. We ride into battle or would walk along the side of the horses. The vast majority of field artillery gun crews in reenacting today have to "man handle" the guns ,some weighing over a ton, into position. Want to join us?
@generalripper1964 And you don't have to 'man handle' the guns like the artillerist of the War Between the States. How many days do you spend doing such things in a normal reenactment?
@bowiebackyard like generalripper1964 said, like My Co. (Co F. 8th Louisiana Infantry Regiment) the NCO's (2nd Cpl in rank or higher) AKA officer for people who don't know much about militaria during 1861-65, you have to be 18 or older to be at least a 2nd Cpl.
Yeah, I'm thinking I will. My wife, little girl and I did a whole lot of events for the 125th anniversary. Now my little girl is 30 with 2 kids of her own! With the 150th coming up I have a little time to get used to the uniform, etc. I guess this time I will be in the senior reserves?
@generalripper1964 Well, I am moving on into it. I bought some uniforms that had belonged to a friend of mine.We did the 125th anniversary events. He had passed away earlier this year and I got them from his son. Gonna wear them as a kind of memorial.Got his musket too.
I have found 54 Confederate ancestors including Gen. Dick Taylor. Jefferson Davis married Richard Taylor's sister and is my cousin by marriage. All 4 of my great grandfathers and 1 great, great grandfather fought for the South in the War for Southern Independence.
These men of course are hardly real Confederate soldiers...I mean if they were true to historic detail, their uniforms would be much more cobbled together, they would be underfed and half of them would be without shoes and much dirtier.
Of course re-enactors are just weekend warriors more or less, still you have to give them credit for spending their weekends doing this sort of thing. I know a few of them and they say its a great experience.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You do realize that the film was made in 2008 and not 1863? The average height and weight of the typical American has changed significantly in the past 147 years. Are you about 5'7" tall and weigh about 140 pounds? I do doubt it.
@generalripper1964 It is very difficult to "get it right" today because of the reasons you sited. However, to those of us that APPRECIATE history, we must feel fortunate that there are those of you out there that seek to preserve the memory of both sides in that war. My hat's off to you!
@willypete2171 north or south, they all eat the same crap these days. I don't suppose that modern day fast food yanks look any healthier than the burger/fries/pizza rebs!
True. And the Yanks are too tall to be totally accurate. I don't think anyone is subsisting on hard tack and various pork products to survive anymore or walking everywhere. Thanks for watching the video though. ;-)
In Europe and I think ( but cant judge ) allot of ppl laugh at ( cant spell it ) reanactment ( allso in the states ) , but it gives a view in history of our fathers and theirs.
and all should just look once and in awhile. It might make some heads change direction
@Worldspining There is a group of reenactors in The Ukrain, the 5th Texas Volunteer Infantry. They travel over all parts of Europe with their wooden rifles. They aren't allowed to carry real rifles. They are allowed to fire caps only.
Yeah that would be freaking cool to do that but Obama will still be "El Presidente" and don't think people would be too keen on that ;-) BTW, the Texans do lower the flag and hoist the "First Nantional Flag" in the town square at Soccorro, NM.
Who cares if he is president, secession will already have passed, far to many sates want to break away by that time it may have already happened. SIC SEMPER TYRANISS! Long Live the Rebellion!
Ft Monroe will be turn back over to the state of Virginia, I believe in 2011. Wouldn't it be a cool thing if a confederate re-enactment unit march in as the US Army leaves in their grand ceremony?
