  • How could you not love this music. Today's music actually sucks compared to this. The music industry definitely wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for classic bands like these guys

  • wtf is up with the lip syncing etc? did they ever play "LIVE"?

  • Agree with djmattese that ELO not already being in the R&R Hall of Fame is a monumental disgrace. The collection of hits by Jeff Lynne and ELO are frickin masterpieces that stand the test of time. I would urge all ELO fans to make your voices known to R&R Hall of Fame voters and set them straight. The Cars were also one of my favorite groups. Take care!

  • Happy 64th Jeff Lynne!

  • Sweet lord! Is that REAL music and singing I hear? What, no autovoice, canned instruments, etc???

  • @faith2xxx AMEN. I didn't appreciate this beautiful music when I was a kid. Now I'm up all night watching and remembering these brilliant masterpieces. Oh, how we need groups like ELO today!!

  • @francinethegreat1 Take a bunch of yuoungsters from today's current generation to a show featuring a 70's/80's act, and they most likely wouldn't be able to process what they were hearing. Imagine, hearing REAL instruments and REAL singing LIVE. No recorded tracks doing the background vocals; no lip syncing; REAL entertainment, and not a bunch of people on stage going 'yeah, yeah, yeah, make some noise!'

  • That Band really had a lot of Hair!

  • 27 Number One hits, legendary songs, excellent shows, and ELO not in Rock Hall of Fame!? My God, in this time of "Occupy Wallstreet" and time of change, I think the current "voters" need to be ousted and the Rock Hall of Fame set right!!Legends likeELO, Journey,Doobie Brothers, Boston,The Cars etc not in?Snobs say they were to"Pop 40" and the music didn't really change anything? I won't mention any of the artist already in,but looking at some of the the who's in and whos not is Pathetic!!!

  • great great great great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i will keep on saying it but i dont need convincing

  • E L O never come close to perfection, they were always one step ahead of it !!

  • playback much?

  • @myroribrallan95 I know really- what is up with this gig, does anyone know? seems like a promo vid.

  • OY cheeky!!!!!! U stopped, so I did!

  • @sweetbrowneyedlady ....... don't ever let Beyonce hear that ...... she'd have you executed!

  • One of my favorite bands, ELO. Jeff Lynne is brilliant.

  • i have this concert on dvd what a classic

  • ELO, listening to you is like a day in the park...a perfect day.

  • ssstopp playbackkkk !!!!

  • Out of the Blue...one of the best albums ever....here is a sample of why....

  • this song played live sounds exactly like the song on the album

  • ELO = GREATNESS.

  • 11 people were turned to stone.

  • ¡Que cuerdas! Podría correr sobre sus ondas hasta colapsar.

  • I like to listen to Evil Woman while thinking of someone in particular that did me wrong. hehe

  • @PJ3usa the one who shall not be named

  • 11 dislikes???????

  • Bloody brilliant. This tune has always sent shivers up and down my spine since I saw them open with it in 1978. Perfect in every way... killer chorus, great break, monster shuffle groove, backing vocals to die for.

  • The greatest band of all time, no doubt!!

  • Bravo to the unsung member of ELO, who entertained fans thirsting for live ELO music long after Jeff Lynne pursued other interests!! Kelly Groucutt performed complex Lynne bass melodies while singing thousands of Lynne lyrics. And Lynne called Groucutt "an employee"!? Bollocks!! Michael "Kelly" is rockin' with the angels now - RIP.

  • Lol, I think these guys would of been a lot bigger if they'd of just had cooler hair...great song!

  • As a huge ELO fan I am deeply saddened to have learned of bassist Kelly Groucutt's death in 2009! The music world has suffered another great lost! Rest in peace Kelly, rest in peace. :-(

  • @derekgharris I even had his solo album and loved it. RIP.

  • How can they sing the fast section without messing up?! That just goes to prove this is THE BEST band ever. Not the Stones, The Beatles, CCR...they are all my favorite bands, but the only band that has a chance of even touching ELO is Zeppelin, and there is still a big gap between Zeppelin and ELO, just my opinion.

  • @MrMIMISEKU They're just so different (Zep and ELO). It never occurred to me to compare them. And no need, we as listeners get the best of all worlds. :-)

  • i had the privelage of seeing ELO do a free concert in California in 2000 awesome

  • When you go to a ELO concert you go to see them play music, to see them destroy those instruments and play magnificent music, you won´t need side effects, light effects or big videos scenarios in the back, only the demolition machine that ELO are as a band

I never saw in my life a band that can do that everytime with so much success, even Olivia Newton John sound amazing with them

All my respects to the most powerful music machine y Prog rock, never boring, always fantastic

  • Bev Bevan was a great drummer. Former members of ELO tour as The Orchestra and are touring the US now.

  • How can you not turn to stone with great music..... THAT'S A GREAT FUCKING BAND OF MUSICIANS that know their shit.....

  • Late 60's and all the 70's.....great music......beats the crap the music industry puts out these days.

  • @EF5inKansas They should induct the entire band. all of them are great-Kelly was amazing as well

  • They should induct the entire band--Kelly was a great bassist.

  • this song always cheers me up.

  • @imationbedex Sweet Talkin' Woman is my cheer up song. I can't hear it without at least smiling. Oh Jeff, you're a gift...sigh.... LOL

  • LEO, (I mean ELO) was an anchor of the hour. Who doesn't remember their contribution?

  • iv'e loved these as a baby lol im 38 and they still float my boat..forever ELO!!

  • Definitely one of the most underated bands of all time. These guy were nothing short of great!

  • I cannot think of a better band anywhere at any time. There are different bands but how can anything be better than this? So many good songs. So catchy. Impressive. I really like this band. I personally do put them up there with the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and other great bands/artists.

  • ELO fans need to check out Phish, another good band that really get the groove going at their live concerts

  • dam i'm gettin old.

  • i was a fan but unfortuanaly i never got to c them live ..i have a E.L.O satern bommer jacket and a book sighned by bev beven somewhere

  • @harpinyemm1 I saw them twice at the old Boston Garden. They sounded beautiful.

  • Sweet music to my ears. Love every detail every instrument.

  • LOVE ELO. First song I heard of theirs that bowled me over was Turn To Stone. I was just a young kid and it sure "caught my ear". WHO IS THIS???!!! GOT TO HEAR MORE!!! I would have to say OOTB is my favorite album.

  • The level of perfection this band has achieved will never be matched- it is the ultimate highest bar for all musicians for all time.

  • There aint no bad ELO song..., every one of them is pure gold ! with GREAT memories !!!

  • kinda tired of all the 'why aren't they in the hall of fame' comments on all the classic great bands. why should we care ? they're all rich , famous , had great lives and everyone still loves lots of the music- who needs some 'hall of bla bla' ?

  • ......4 minutes of musical perfection..period.

  • @Mariannelfk My favorite.

  • 2 bad i could not get on board w/ the( OWNER"S of VIDEO'S) my comment..was overturned.on OTHER VIDEO"S...we are being visited and NASA know's and my commennt..was wasted....BY ....THE ELO..OWNER...OF THIS VIDEO...and he (THEY) HAS....have .DECLINED TOO..POST..A.. (MY)..COMMENT...THE OWNER OF THIS VIDEO HAS DECLINED..TO POST( MY)...COMMENT..due TOO OWNERSHIP..OF THE VIDEO..

  • I heard my brother playing this tune in his room one day (in the fantastic 70 's ) and I was like "Who is this ?"" That's ELO "and I was hooked !!!

  • @EF5inKansas I agree, one of the greatest song writers of all time!!!

  • Saw ELO in '77 at 'The World Series of Rock and Roll," in Cleveland. They were the

the final band along with Journey, Foreigner and Trickster. ELO had that awesome

looking spaceship backdrop goin' on. Man, did I rock my ass off. To bad the 'Series of Rock and Roll' was ended . Rock on Clevelend and WMMS !

  • My Mother took me & my brother to see this in 1977, i was in awe then at 11 years of age & at 44 now i still am.... ELO were like no other & never will be...

  • I was "aware" of ELO when these songs were coming out. But now that I've been on a 5-6 DAY ELO KICK ..... I have to look in the mirror and say "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, FOOL?!?" What a great BAND !

  • I suppose the jury is still out on whether this song was manipulated in some way (either "live" or during the editing process). One thing for sure, the instruments, themselves, are more than likely as they were performed "live." The vocals, well, I'm not so sure about. They sound TOO perfect, but than again, this band was not too far removed from that label.

  • @progpunker

You are right - when the original video was released in 78 some twat did a huge disservice by overlaying the album track on to the video. He probably thought he was improving the "product" but it has led to confusion over 30 years and the myth that they 'couldn't play live'. There is a new release (search under 'ELONUT; which is how it should have been. They DID use some 'click' tracking but on the whole, it was live and in many ways better than the album.

  • @EF5inKansas Because Jeff Lynne didn't really do much as a solo act-- all his awesomeness was expressed through ELO. I am very surprised that ELO hasn't been inducted, though.

  • i lovve E-L-O and this song!:)) <3 Rock On!!!!!!

but r they lip syncying to like the Album song?jw

  • @Cutieanimelover1 I believe they are live, about 99% sure. If so, wow!

  • I was so fortunate to have these guys as an early influence. ELO is in a class by themselves.

  • pure musicians

  • Give me Melvin....Bev ....Mick.....and Little Kelly G......and you can have that 50 piece vegas crap Lynne has been using of late.....this is the real ELO....remember the real band !!!

  • great

  • Great band and great track

  • fantastic band always liked em !!

  • Sadly, I think paulrgrubb is right - there is heavy tape playback going on here. You simply cannot make this sort of sound live.

  • @samsandbox Well partly right! What you hear HERE is playback! Not what was played that night! go to my channel and listen to the remastered Upload with the True live performance, a hell of a difference! and better!

  • @samsandbox so what

  • Oh wel, no different to todays music then.

  • @samsandbox

    I was wondering..

Just watched another video where ELO sounded also very good playing acoustic.

  • Unfortunately parts of the music are lips-inked. If I am not mistaken, ELO was criticized during the 70's for doing so, along with a great many bands trying to reproduce their music live during this time. Still a great band with great music! But I do have to say Jeff Lynne's latest live video is all live due to the technology of today!

  • Everytime I listen to an ELO song, it's like a getaway into a whimsical world of great music. Hard to imagine how powerful a violin and cello can sound alongside such wonderful vocals, but they do. Todays music needs a healthy dose of ELO in it.

  • @Luvinthe70s a healthy dose is every song they ever wrote including demos :P

  • This sounds just like the studio version. Great!

  • classic brill song fond memories of being a teen anyone know what they are up to now??

  • this is called live playback

  • now, tell me Jeff Lynde isn't a genius for putting the violin and cello in their music and I will tell you Hitler was a humanitarian....perfect perfection!!!!! :) gotta love it-BTW, I can sing the fast part without messing up :) hehehe

  • its jeff Lynne

  • yeah, I know, I just did a typo :)

  • He is a genius though you're right. ELO is alone in their genre.

  • I went to the R & Roll hall of Fame and say Vickie Sue Robinson as and Inductee. That just proves that this place has nothing to do with Rock and Roll. A joke at best... The Things that pass for Rock and Roll nowadays are beyond the pale.

  • man ELO can Rock some great music !

  • I'd like to meet Jeff Lynne.

  • I wish I had just a portion of the talent that exist in this band. The music is so tight and the harmonys are dead on. What a blessing to be able to create the amount of hits that these guys put out. I love metal and hard rock but I know good musicians and talent.

  • WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice special effect with the circle? NOT!

  • its amazing casue back then they sound like they did in the studio but now its all about money and cant even come close to the studio recordings its pathetic thes guys are probably up ther in my top favs

  • ooh yeah, I was thinkin' the same thing-isn't it amazing how much this sounds like the studio version-it's incredible-even the other great singers/musicians can't get this dead on!!!! they sure as heck don't make good music anymore (with a few exceptions here and there)-it's about greed and fortune and fame-makes me want to puke...also, if you wear makeup and they can market you, you will make money, even if you can't carry a tune in a bucket...(wonder who I am talkin' about...)

  • @kittenrenea ...for me, your comments are probably appropriate for about 80% of the shallow excuse for rock bands that get by on scandal and intrigue. It saddens and sickins me that I find myself trawling through You Tube for music that has the sort of quality on display here.

  • @Icoping....yup-I don't mostly listen to classical and lovely music -I don't normally even listen to rock or stuff like this anymore-I just recently have been checking on old stuff from my growing up...take care and God bless! :)

    Tami

  • why is it a big deal if i asked about cocaine, just wonderin, damnnn..... its not like im saying they were all coke heads, i asked, plus they were ahahahahaha

  • watch?v=J10w3FuCwfQ

  • ELO is one of the greatest band of all time!

  • @gerkins1 The 60's, 70's and 80's, in my humble opinion, was when music was ACTUALLY music. I emphasized "actually" because the 90's and later years gave way to the practice of "sampling". It does not take talent to pay an artist for the rights to use their music. It does take talent to create the "spoken word" known as rap.

  • Just awesome. Love ELO and Jeff's voice. Sexy and talented.

  • oo wt a combno im neithr

  • Terrific!!!!!!!

  • So funny how Brits sing without sounding British. Why dont Americans sound like Brits when they sing? lol j/k

    Great song, love ELO.

  • Comment removed

  • Right on!!! How can the group who help define the 1970's not be inducted? ELO touched us all and Jeff' Lynn's genius will forever be a part of rock & roll. Long live ELO !!!

  • Soo much good music from him.

  • Q: How many white laquer cellos do they need?

    A: Two.

  • I LOVE ELO

  • I think Jeff has more than earned the right to be in the R&RHOF, if as an individual would that include The Move, ELO, Wilburys..etc. He has done so much production for people that some might be surprised, that he has been overlooked as an individual, not only for ELO, is a complete shock.

  • They need to bulldoze that crappy shrine anyway. Too many real artists left out and too many noncontributors put in. Start over, I say.

  • I take it your talking about the so called, Hall of Fame ? If so, I have to agree, I was there this past summer and my wife and I were the only ones there at the time. Sad silly idea, I can't think of anything more absurd. The displays are poorly designed and there's really nothing of exceptional interest.

  • Maybe these guys are not in the rock & roll hall of the fame but are and will be in the heart of the rock & roller's forever!

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. Not only is it amazing who doesn't make it in, it's also amazing who does. As far as I figgure, the Rock and Roll HOF is a joke and a publicity stunt.

  • How is madonna even rock n roll

  • I didn't see anybody else mentioned that I would have voted to get in except Madonna. I don't listen to her but how can you question her being selected.

  • Just guessing or speculating that the years they were a classical act has thrown their hits/years ratio off.

Is being American any qualification for the hof??

I have no clue anymore as to who is in

I personally don't think these guys played rock long enough to get in but still like what they did.

They, to me are like Huey Lewis. He rocked and got rich and retired.

Is "The News" or HL himself in??

  • I'm in agreement with you guys about the rrhof. Rush isnt inthere either. WTF!!!!!!

  • I saw them in 1981 at the Los Angeles Forum. He did a tribute to his sweet friend who had just died a few months earlier. I don't think he lip synced to A DAY in a life from John Lennon. It made the whole place cry. Great Band. Should go in with Boston ,and Triumph, Kansas. Cool bands.

  • Somebody please give me one good reason why this band is not in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame! What a fucking joke that Madonna and Run DMC are in but E.L.O., Boston, Kiss, Badfinger and Def Leppard are not in!!!!

  • These guys and bands like the ones you mentioned are the real deal and not plastic fake stuff that makes the headlines.

  • I'm just as shocked and outraged as you are!!!! They were def one of my fav bands, and I actually thought they had been inducted already. This definitely should be filed in the WTF category.I wish it was a way fans could petition the big wigs who decides who gets inducted. This is an outrage!!!

  • I had a back and forth with Pres. of R&RHOF, where I asked about qualifications, etc. Once I mentioned Jeff Lynne and ELO, I never heard a response. I think it's all about being in a clique or sorts. God knows, Jeff is over qualified. It's just whether or not you are "in" with them (R&RHOF) or not. It sucks, and something should be done about it -- seriously.

  • The last time I checked there were two qualifications to enter the R&R HOF. They were longevity and originality. E.L.O. meets both. And so does Chicago, KISS, Def Leppard and Boston. It's an absolute joke that Madonna and Run DMC are in but the bands I just mentioned are not. What more does Boston or Chicago have to do? And what KISS did was definitely original! There's a fine line between pop and rock. But Madonna IS NOT ROCK!!

  • I personally think the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an embarrassment and a fraud. I wouldn't worry if worthy bands are not in and awful acts are. To me there is no legitimacy to the R&RHOF.

  • Classical instruments juxtaposed with typical rock essentials? What a brilliant fusion of melodic harmony!

  • Wspaniałe .....!!!

  • If you get the Zoom DVD you can hear a dub-free version of this song, and it rocks (almost) as well as the full band with stand up bass and all.

  • I'm a huge fan of ELO, but it kind of stinks that Jeff Lynn has to lip-sync the entire time. I can remember being 15 when this album was released and buying the first concert ticket I could. I was very dissappointed when I came to the quick realization that it was just the album's vocal recording that was being played over the PA system. Though this slightly tarnished my love for ELO, I am still a huge fan.

  • Dertrommier thats bollox. I was at this concert back in thec 70s, he wasnt miming nor were the band. In fact check out the first song of the show ( Concerto For A Rainy Day ) You CLEARLY see Jeff signal to his roady to turn up the volume on his guitar. If hes miming why would he bother to do that?

  • He didn't lip-sync. The album track was over dubbed after the concert for the benefit of the newly emerging video market. If you buy the OOTB tour special edition on DVD, the sound has been restored to its glorious origonal...ELO rock, no miming and hopefully your faith restored in Uncle Jeff.

  • OMG!!!!!! I Love this song!

  • I can't help breaking out into a dorky dance when I hear this! Love it!

  • my fav ELO song- great.

  • My Favorite ELO Album!

  • listen to how this starts out...its like a jet engine is firing up...... i really wonder if it is live..... it sounds to perfectly mixed.. i wonder.

  • I think queen utilized the vocal style used at 2:10 numerous times

  • This song was written in 1977 and Queen was already at the superstar level. Queen pioneered this vocal style since the early 70's.

  • Too bad this audio isn't live except at the beginning. I'd like to hear a version on here with the old ELO doing this song live.

  • Yeah I'm pretty sure this is live. It does sound suspiciously good for a live performance, but this is definitely NOT the mix that was on the studio album.

  • Well, I didn't say it was from the studio album. I was just saying it sounds like they overdubbed the live vocals with some studio ones. There are vocals on there that are double tracked, and they only had 2 singers in the band, so there's no way they could pull that off live. But, still very good band. I love ELO.

  • Television broadcast of the Out of the Blue concert in 1978 was a poorly mixed effort in mono that used a lot of the backing tapes that were used admittedly by the band due to sound problems caused by the huge metal and fibreglass stage set. The tapes were for the band's ears only, to help them keep time and should not have been heard by the audience.

  • Absolutely great song! :)

  • Love it !!!!

  • Yea this is great stuff, my older sis had there albums and I dug it big time wish I had seen them live "at concert"

  • One of their best and Jeff's voice is so clear. What a band! oh the 70's! Glad to have grown up in that era and witnessed this type of fun music!

  • this song is awesome!!

  • great!

  • This has got to be my favorite ELO song. Seems like it keeps popping up on my playlist.

  • these guys are so gangsta.

  • their the best

  • ive said so many times all great bands are from the uk it makes me proud to be british

  • Dammit you brits get all the best bands lol. At least music is still good in the UK over here it's pure garbage that hits the charts.

  • I know, but an exception is Brian and the Beach Boys. Californian, like me (tho' a serious Anglo-Celti-phile).

  • It would have been great in this kind of

    space- ship- concert.

ELO was living in its time in the late 1970´s.

Star Wars and the Spielberg movie about

    aliens.

  • I stole one of my fathers CDs and managed to discover ELO, this song being my favorite. I though they were a new band, but I had NEVER heard of them.

  • How excellent.

  • i miss ELO =,(

  • me too :(

  • super!

  • The mark of an excellent recording group - Sounding as good live as they do on their recordings! The best of the 70's!

  • just another generation gone like the hippies

  • if you weren't there in the 1970's,

ELO was as big as any band could get.

great song's from a great big band.

    listen to this song.....friggin hawt.
