Is there a reason you haven't painted the counterweights black? In my collection, are those two color shots of 6220(9) at the 1939-40 New York World's Fair and those weights were indeed black. Polished driver tires and hubs in April '39, but aluminum paint by October '40. I have correctly repainted the driving wheels on both my Aster A4 (Silver Link) and A3 (Doncaster Green) 4472 with black tires and white perimeter lining. It really does improve the look of these nice models.
This is absolutely wonderful. I am green with envy. If we can't have "Duchess of Hamilton" back on the main line over here, this is the very next best thing!
The coaches were a set specially designed for the Coronation, they were made but only run twice. After that the loco was sent to the USA with 4 of the coaches (plus others not in the set) for a B&O commemoration, then WWII broke out in Europe which stranded the loco in the US and the coaches were used for the war effort. After the war the loco came back but the express never ran again, the cars were used on various trains until the 1960's when they were withdrawn.
What a wonderful model; great video :) Thank you for uploading a video about it! Hornby Live Steam is definitely something else and only an awesome layout would do them justice.
@fodenscania2 WELL---I haven't done any proof digging---but I have a wonderful quality print of a magnificent painting by Chris Woods, showing the 'City of Lancaster--6243, in Maroon / Gold streamlining, leaving Lancaster's Castle Station for Euston. dated 1991. To all enthusiasts of this engine, try and get a copy--it's magnificent !
Well, that's what British Streamlining does for you. Just look at Mallard, Flying Scotsman, and the other A class locomotives of the LNER, they are all beautiful.
It's a very expensive sound system module...just kidding.

@svrronline if only you had an A4 streamliner
PalomboDylan 5 months ago
@svrronline It was primarily sent to the U.S. in 1939 for the New York World's Fair. It was returned to the U.K. in 1942, U-Boots be damned.

Lovely loco, not to mention the smooth track, and did I spot the correct articulated coaches to go with it?
harley333man 6 months ago
It is a slip eccentric valve gear, so it is full forward or full reverse.
svrronline 7 months ago
Thats an amazing model, do you have to adjust the reverser at all whilst its running or does it just run in full forward gear all the time?

Do you use the summerland chuffer? The engine has a nice and clear exhaust beat!
That sounds absolutely like a real steam loco and not like some feeble hissing my butanefired engines do ! N I C E !
Rainmanxxl1967 1 year ago
Sorry to say it but 6243 would never of had streamlined body work. Also did you build the engine. it 4 cylindered?

how do you control the speed of live steam locos?
Amtrak1194 2 years ago
There is a regulator on the engine, and you have to use skill and judgement to get it right.

Nice locomotive. Have an OO electric one in red. Gauge 1 live steam is great, but my wife would not let me run it indoors on the carpet.
Trainbrain1949 3 years ago
lol, If you did that you wouldn't have a carpet and you wouldn't have a wife either!
