One of my favourite songs of all time. I really love everything that Sylvian has done. This particular song reminds me of Ali Murray. You should check him out if you like music that is sad and dreamy and beautiful.
This song is so beautifully breathtaking. David Sylvian is a total genius. Heartbreaking song. One of the most underrated songwriters of our time. If you like this song, you should check out Fragile Bones (Feels Like Home) by Ali Murray, or anything by Ali Murray for that matter. His music is also sad and dreamy and beautiful.
This track has always left me so desperately sad yet uplifted at he same time..achingly haunting and a tune that makes you ask all the hard questions. In an age that has lost all sanity and hurtles head long into the abyss, thank god there is still someone out there who can make you still feel and hear beauty.God given talent.
@andrewbb9 Your comment sums up exactly how I feel about the state of the world and this ethereal ,melancholy yet addictive tune. It's clear the Sylvian is a man who feels much cheers :)
Quando il respiro blocca le parole e le emozioni soffocano il pensiero , si rimane in un limbo dove l'attimo tenta di paralizzarci. Ecco questo è il momento in cui vorrei sentire questa canzone......sempre!
Stay tonight We’ll watch the full moon rising Hold on tight The sky is breaking I don’t ever want to be alone With all my darkest dreaming Hold me close The sky is breaking I don’t ever want to be alone With all my darkest dreaming Hold me close The sky is breaking
He has done some truely wonderful work since i first searched thru back street record shops in London in the late 70's early 80's as a 14/15 year hunting down japan early recordings. I have followed him intermitently i will admit flitting back from time to time to discover new works of genius..
I must have watched this a hundred times over the last 6 months, especially when I need to wind down, I never thought that a video of electric pylons at dusk could make me feel so peaceful. Maybe its the swaying grass or the feeling of nothingness. It climbs right inside my soul.
Somehow it works, the perfect combination of beautiful music and scenery.
@hagstromman345 It's an Armenian instrument called the duduk, played by the master of the instrument Djivan Gasparyan who is credited as a co-writer of the song. The man is an unbelievable musician (not unlike David) and the only other player as highly regarded in the world is Levon Minassian. Check them both out! Google them and you might be surprised the places you've heard them play before.

I've been fortunate enough to follow David Sylvian from his shouty/punky/New Romantic days of Japan, right through to the accomplished and captivating artist he has become. He is very under-rated and hasn't had the acclaim he deserves, but to those who know, he's sheer brilliance and genius.
Wounderful sonorisity, if that is a word ! if not, I think it describes the beautiful textures and sonic landscapes Dave has created in this one ... what can I say, the man has impecable taste and knows how to bring it to artistic fruition in music, and that is no mean feat ! What song by Sylvian was in 'Number 23' i've never seen the film and never knew he had contributed? i've loved his work since I was 14 and that was many years ago!

That was "The Banality of Evil", the song he did under his "Nine Horses" label. One of my favorite songs of his.
You're fortunate to have discovered Sylvian at such a young age. The man is a national treasure to the human race. =D
