Obama is trying to clean up Bush's mess because our national security is vulnerable. We can't travel abroad anymore in fear of being killed thanks to Bush. The protests in Indonesia with our very presence is proof of this.
I don't believe so. Because we waged war against a small country that neither threatened us or attacked us, we are seen as a bully & an aggressor. Also we're blamed for the the economy collapse in the world - this has exacerbated anti-American feeling. Georgia killed Russian peacekeepers because they knew we were behind them - Russia retaliated & were seen as the aggressors. Look @ our policies in the middle-east - Israel has broken resolution after resolution & we do nothing -
I can't think of a better reason to hate someone than bullying a much smaller country & killing nearly 2M innocent people (mostly children) because we want their oil. However if you can think of another reason Americans are being singled out & murdered in places like India let me know. You know good and damn well we were not hated like this.
Two million aren't dead in Iraq and those that are dead aren't children but thats besides the point. I never said we were hated "like this" but rather that we were hated. Many of our embassies were bombed before Bush even came into office, the trade centers were bombed in 93', the Serbians hated us for Kosovo, the Iranians hated us since the 1950's, Asians hated us for WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Europeans hated us for trivial perceived personality differences. The list goes on and on.
A study completed in '06 showed more than 650,00 dead compared to Bush' unrealistic number of 30,000. In 2008 a new study was conducted & more than 1M Iraqis have died as a result of our invasion. So, nearly "2M dead" is in fact accurate (86,000 to 94,000 dead due to violence). As for countries hating us, we were not singled out & murdered. Not only for the war are was greatly disliked, but I read where we're being blamed on the collapsed economy in the world. That doesn't help either.
Look lthom33, not only did you get the numbers and percentages wrong from the study you are attempting to cite you are interpreting them wrong. Furthermore, you seem to be ignorant of or dismiss every other study done on the subject which contradict the one in question. You have giving knee-jerk reactions that are poorly researched. People did intentionally target Americans before the Bush Administration. Cont'
In 83' they intentionally targeted our military barracks in Lebanon (killing 241 Americans), in 93' they targeted the trade centers with explosives in rental trucks (killing 6 and injuring over a thousand people), the planning for Sept 11th began well become Bush came to office. Mind you I have not mentioned dozens of other attacks. You're being irrational...
Irrational? I never said that we were not attacked prior to Bush but to compare the "world" in the past to what it is today is what's irrational. And in both '83 & '93 Israel was involved which is never good. We're always supporting them whether right or wrong or which resolution is broken - and according to Laden this is what caused 9/11. Also it's a fact that there were prior warnings about the upcoming attacks & Bush did NOTHING. Don't defend him because it's appalling.
Go back and read my comments carefully. I fully admit that anti-Americanism is much stronger today than when Bush took office. My entire point was that hatred towards the U.S. predates him, he just exacerbated it. Israel was involved in 83' and 93'? What the hell are you talking about? Also, Bin Laden could have been motivated by America's affinity towards hot dogs for all I care.
If you're talking about the truck load of explosives that killed our marines - In 1982, Israel viewed the Syrian & PLO presence in southern Lebanon as a threat & attacked. We were there as peacekeepers. Terrorist' demand in '93 was to end US aid to Israel, an end to US diplomatic relations with Israel. It's because of Israel's blatant violation of international laws. They are occupying the Gaza & West Bank when they're not suppose to even be in there! Hot dogs are much less complicated.
You're going to argue with the Lancet study? Everyone uses the independent group for "numbers & percentages." HNWOj_dFSR4 and mmCkxQ6C5l0 for sources of convenience. We killed 650,000 people in '06 not "30,000" that Bush pulled out of his ass- and you don't think the numbers are near 2M 2 yrs later? Are you dense? You don't know what you're talking about & it's annoying.
Absolutely I'll contest the Lancet Study. Their general framework was solid. However, the manner in which they carried it out was ridiculous. Many people who opposed the war automatically saw the obscenely higher death toll and latch on to it, never taking the time to actually read the study or its criticisms. I suspect you are one of them. Oddly, I adamantly opposed the invasion of Iraq and despise the politics of the Bush Adm. but refuse to surrender my critical thinking skills.
Are you a scientist? Researchers from Johns Hopkins & Columbia Univ published the study in the Lancet. Other statisticins confirmed the validity of the methdology. Scientists said the size of the survey was adequate for extrapolation to the entire country. This report was published on the eve of the election ('04) fighting in part over our policies in Iraq & American newspapers & t.v. news programs ignored the study or buried reports about it far from the top headlines.
It was Bush who dismissed the study as "not credible," without offering his own estimate, or explaining why that estimate was "not credible." Well we all know what a great liar he is. Truth is this: 3aEvzuA4f0c&feature=related
By the end of 48 hours, 800 Tomahawk cruise missiles had fallen on women & children. Easily thousands were killed on that day alone. Our troops are raping their children, kicking a severed head like a soccer ball, etc & everyone here goes on as if nothing has happened.
Ithom33- Yes, Agree. Madeleine Albright did not have a problem with the figure of 1/2 million dead Iraqi children as early as in the mid 90's. (60 Minutes.) It only rated a :"Well, shit happens".
There is also the future effect of the DU left from the US ordnance to take into account. And I fail to see how the killing of Iraqi children can be justified because of what happened in Lebanon and elsewhere. No, it's all about control and pillage. And yes, US popularity has plummeted under GWB.
There are troops returning home who are speaking out about our military covering up civilian deaths. They, too, have consistently stated that the number of dead civilians are much more higher than reported. When civilians are killed their commanders tell them not to worry, "We will take care of it." There is zero justification for killing children & in Iraq (as in Palestine) the highest percent of causalities are kids. And we're suppose to be a Christian country? Can't stand Bush
I understand that - I certainly don't blame our troops because it was failed policies which sent them there. However they're out now & speaking out against the travesty which took place. They should know, seeing it first hand. Now they're coming out about Gitmo which is going to come back to bite Bush in the ass.
Im in the Army and I have never seen anyone do anything unjust nor have I done anything unjust, but that doesnt mean it doesnt happen. But I would assume, if it did happen, that person would be scared to say anything, because they would silence that person with prison in Kansas.
There's been reports of raping children, murders, and kicking a severed head around like a soccer ball. 24 servicemen home from Iraq committed suicide just last month - many have PTSD. I don't think our troops kill on purpose but when mistakes are made they're covered. I suppose that happens in all wars but these men surely have the right to speak out about it without fear of retaliation by our government.
PTSD isnt the problem, TBI is and I have heard numbers as high as 67% suffering from TBI. Though I dont know if those are official numbers. PTSD can be controlled, not with meds, not with doctors, but with letting them get back to reality. Going home, not to base, home with family, what they knew. Thats what helped me.
Wow, sorry that you had to go through that. I have a friend who was sweet & gentle before he went to Iraq - my brother told me that he had cut off a goat's head, placed a cig in it's mouth w/a note that said "Smoking is hazardous to your health." War does crazy things to good people.
Oh god - never heard of it. So it's a physical injury not a mental disorder. That's awful. I've read stories where soldiers are killing their wives - there were like 3 in 1 month reported in the news while another was a pregnant woman who was raped. I believe all of this is part of PTSD & not being able to cope civilian life.
All the people(and I use the term people loosely) all over the world, hate America. We slaughter billions and billions of innocent women and children daily, for the fun of it. Why, we have bullits that just kill baby's. Oddly though, if we opened our borders to everyone, all those America haters would be running, flying, boating and swimming here by the billions. Odd, isn't it?
Hillary goes to indonesia to rehabilitate The U.S. image with Muslims and apologize for freeing 50 million Muslims from Saddam and the taliban. Oh, and also say the U.S is sorry for only donating a few hundred billion dollars to rebuild their country. Yea, that makes sense.
Hi You ... .. American suck our oil field in all over the country, and of course we asking something from USA, thats normal in relationship ... We give what you dont have and we asking what we need ...
