girlfriend just gave me this knife for Christmas, initial opinion is.... I LOVE IT! It also the first new knife I've ever between given as a gift, and thanks to nutn i'm probably gonna be spending money on more lol
I agree % with Buck's customer service. I personally, and admitted to Buck that I destroyed the gut hook on one of my knives - Buck "still" did a courtesy sharpening and even polished the gut-hook which was better then when I received the knife out of the book - I greatly enjoy your channel
Got the Vantage Select for my father in law. I was a little disappointed in the thinness of the blade. Great slicer, poor utility blade. After an accidental round through the washer and dryer, the knife came apart, but not all parts were found. I sent the remains to Buck with a letter. Got it back a few weeks later, with parts added, reassembled, and even resharpened at no charge. Not the best knife for any anything other than light use, but big time win for BUCK customer service.
@kicktotheballs ... nutnfancy brings good information to youtube on a lot of interesting topics, and you sat there, watched the video ( in your moms basement, picking the lint out of your gaping fat belly button) and commented for what reason? at least he brings good information to youtube not a video with two japanese guys fighting in an office.. if you don't like it don't watch it, and if you do no reason to comment your opinion on that note take a big step back and fuck your own face
@kicktotheballs Youre the one with i guess a fascination with male anatomy. You named yourself 'kicktotheballs'? You're the only fag here. Now FUCK OFF..
@playdrums why do you feel it necessary to be the personal attack dog of TNP, it's not a collective cult and it doesn't need to be fiercely defended. Treat stupid comments like his' the way they should be ie. by ignoring them.
Hi Nutn, long time watcher, first time commenter. My question is this - besides buck, which of the larger companies do you deal with provide you with noteworthy customer service? Recently I had a very good experience with LL Bean. A real person picked up on the first ring. Just trying to buy "high value" gear for myself and now my family, and want to avoid the pitfalls of bad or indifferent cust. service. Keep makin' vids - they are better than tv.
Great vid Nutn... and to reiterate, Buck has solved the blade centering issue that has impacted Vantage owners. I would recommend sending back any Vantage that has blade centering issues; you have to remember that retailers sometime carry large inventories so it is possible to get a Vantage with an older manufacturing date. I encourage any Vantage owner to send their knife in if there is any sort of complaint. Our warranty department will work with you just as they did with Nutn in this vid.
hey yall so i got this knife and i am in love with it! but there's a chip in the middle of the blade from where it hits the back post. what should i do?
@americanmade32 No my friend- One of the floor managers actually called and spoke to me about it after seeing the pictures I had taken of the "cut" of the blade; he had discovered that one of the grinders was offset and he had to realign it. So he apologized and sent me another knife with an even relief edge and grind.
Just an update on the liner spacing issue. I got a Select today with the blue handle . I thought I'd be safe ordering it through Amazon due to their high turnover. It came with the box dated 8/23/10. Fit on the blade is terrible with it wedged against the side when closed and lots of side to side play when open. The liner lock barely contacts well enough to work. Looks like Kershaw has nothing to worry about here.
Dude you have to make a vid on the Buck 750 Redpoint; It's the best damn pocket knife in the world, it's legal almost everywhere, super quick release, and is real cheap.
Yeah, that's a example customer service in USA. Here in Europe, You will be happy if some company even react for your complaint with "warranty rejected" letter and return your stuff without much more damage.
They still have trouble getting the blade shape right on all these knives. I own three different models of this knife and the belly curve is different on the Pro muck flatter, more like a tanto that has been softened up. .
They still have trouble getting the blade shape right on all these knives. I own three different models of this kife and the belly curve is different on the Pro.
just got mine in the mail today... what a great knife PERIOD! Nevermind for the money... Coming from someone like me who has well over 200 knives in my collection and NONE being what i would consider "cheap", i can tell you that i would expect to pay easily 100.00 for a knife of this quality! thanks for such a great review on this Line of buck knives..
Ah, mine was slightly leaning off center, but tightening the pivot screw by about 1/3 of a turn straightened it just nice! N-I-C-E! sells for 53$ at Lebaron, excellent deal!
I feel the need to share that unlike our friend nutn, I didn't recieve the same great service from Buck with a knive (QuickFire) that I had recently ordered. When I recieved it, the relief edge was asymmetric with one side being "deeper" than the other and causing the tip to look like a chisel rather than a point. Rep was very nice, sent it back out, waited. Got a "supposedly" hand picked new one today in the mail- same damn issue and I think it's actually the same knife. Very disappointed.
@Beastofthedeep Beast, I would be irritated too, and since they normally have such good customer service, I would call them again and let them know exactly what is going on. -- Veri
@nutnfancy I did end up calling them back and explaining the problem again. The rep again was very pleasant (different one this time as the other I had spoken to was on vacation). She herself seemed a little taken back that the problem hadn't been addressed in full and told me to email her explaining the issue, which she in turn sent to the plant manager. I took some pictures along with the email I sent. Hopefully I'll hear back from them by Thursday. If not, she told me to contact her again.
@nutnfancy Though very disappointed at the time, I am glad that they are willing to work out the problem. I also wanted to clarify (didn't have enough room in the other post) that I'm not condemning them in any way. Any manufacturer can run into issues, especially with newer products. I just wish they would have fixed it right the first time. We're all human though. I'll keep you updated.
@nutnfancy After a week I've received my replacement; I spoke to the floor manager (b/c he wanted to talk about the issue, not b/c I was causing a fuss) and he explained that the grinder used was "off". Very nice gentleman and happy that this knife has been corrected, but at the same time I'm kinda burned that he would like me to send the other defect knife back, again, and at my own expense, again. No, no coupon either.
@Verilioness No, this was directly with Buck- Jeff H. the "Value Stream Manager" (on his card sent with new knife) is who I spoke to after talking to the initial rep. I had purchased a few knives via their webstore, the quickfire being the one with the issues.
Buck knives are fantastic. I have sent my buck 692 back for repair after ten years of hard use and they sent me a free one back within ten days. Great company just wish that every knife was USA made. well thats what walmart does to company's
Like alot of others were saying there is no such thing as a " best" knife brand. It's all about personal preference and what you need to use the knife for. Although I like other brands of knives buck is my favorite.
Just received my Buck Vantage Pro today 3-29-10, what a great knife. Blade was centered and very sharp. Great buy for $40 bucks. Thanks nutn for your review.
even though i work at buck knives i would have to say compared to other knife makers buck is by far one of the best try one of our 296 with the 154 steel great knife holds and edge like no other that is what i use.
I had a similar problem with two different Benchmade Nitrous strykers that I had bought a while back. I sent one back and got another jacked up one. I politely e-mailed Benchmade about the issue and received absolutely no response. I returned the second defective knife too and I can honestly say that I'll never buy another Benchmade knife again. Bad customer service really bothers me.
Hey dudes, a little off-topic, but I was wondering, how does customer service work? Here in Czech Republic we always send stuff to the vendor who sold it. Is it different here? Did nutn buy it for example from yourcornerstore and sent it directly to buck? Happy holidays TNPers!!
I think it would be hilarious if you guys would "rick roll" us on one of your next videos. Haha. I know I would appreciate the humor, and I think everyone else would also.
Hey nutn, after watching your video on the vantage, i absolutely had to buy it. I work at a sporting goods store that you would fall in love with because of all the "dangerous" things we have, haha. but the thing about this is, we had the Vantage AVID, for $39.95, and with my employee discount came out to $34, nonetheless, amazing knife, i absolutely love it, and it does have the blade centering issue, but being as i can send it to Buck and they can fix it, im not too worried. Thanks Nutn!
i always find that the blade lasts a lot longer on the bucks, and they are perfect for cleaning. Most of em have a guide point for your finger to go on and guide your cut when your skinning/cleaning. The warranty is a nice addition as well lol
Next time you put his # out there, please make it on a Gerber or Kershaw because they are much better than buck, and would be worth watching a 2nd time.
I picked one of these up after watching this vid and man is it ever awesome. There are some blade centering issues but the blade does not touch the liner so it doesn't matter as Nutn said in the review. Anyway I love this knife if you are still on the fence about buying this knife JUST BUY IT YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Appreciate all that you do but comparing the BM Torrent to this Buck knife is sort of apples to oranges. I did get the Torrent based upon your review, as it is quite the "gentleman's knife."
@brigadierbond ok your welcome i really dont know what your alternatves would be but i know austrlia a nd new zealand have some awesome outdoors stores surely one of them would carry buck products but im sure you know better than me since you livethere take care
Dunno. Why would you need it? Not for opening boxes and other things, cutting stuff, peeling apples, not good as emergency tools at all. Ya know guys, he got me convinced: knives r useless. I'm throwing away mine ^^
clip is reversible, if you get the pro, and flip the clip around, it will cover up the inlaid buck logo. i love the pro, the g10 looks awesome, and the s30v steel is GREAT
It's a matter of how you carry your knife and where you carry it, broham. You position it either tip-up or tip-down to minimize unnecessary movement during deployment.
There are NO advantges of one method over the other per se.
The goal is to adjust your carry mode to maximize deployment speed and reliability. Up/Down just depends on the pocket you're using, whether you do straight- or cross-draw, etc.
Dude, it doesn't matter what my system is. It is of no avail to you that Nutnfancy does tip-up carry. Just give both systems a try - carry the knife for a coupla days, practice deploying the blade a lot and you'll get a good idea what's best for you.
Not to leave your question unanswered, I carry a Centofante3 tip-up in my right butt pocket. When I first bought that knife 7 years ago or so I did tip-down, it is only later that I found tp-up worked better for me. Awesome blade!
Tell you what nutn, one thing about Buck knives also is they last. My dad has my grandfathers old buck knife. Thing is so old that Granddad had to put a new handle on it, and it's old. I'd day it's at least 50-60 years old. THey do make a very good quality knife, especially for the money.
depends what your using it for. a glock isnt always the best answer. if it's just a plinker, i would definitely go .22. if it's just for home defense, i would say a 12 gauge. i think that the more experienced guys would say 'go to the gun shop and see what fits you the best, not what i like'
The Ruger Mark II stainless steel bull barrel .22 semi-auto pistol. You can shoot it all day for a few bucks...it's pretty accurate to 75 yards....and in a crisis...it can go brainless and dump the mag in 1.7 seconds.
If Buck is reading this, thanks to nutnfancy spreading the good word I will be looking to pick up a Vantage tomorrow. This will be my first Buck knife, and going off of the review, im pretty excited!
My first locking folder was a Buck Hunter 110....and that knife was a treasured friend for years. One day I snapped that blade(the pry bar effect)....so I called Buck. RMS'ed...fixed...and returned in 7 days. They sent me a fresh sheath, too. All for free. I'm now a life long customer
Buck meant vendors providing them with knife components (washers etc...). Just typical corporate bs, don't worry about it. The important stuff is that the customer service works.
Our family has run a small business for 30 years. We strive (and succeed) at having a low error rate, but my father always taught me that it's how a company responds when they make an error which shows what kind of company they really are. It is an absolute pleasure to do business with companies like that.
my largest problem with customer service is when you have an immediate problem and when you call them up it is a man in India speaking with a first grade understanding of english. I have nothing against India but I want to talk to someone in America where the company is based. Preferably someone with a sexy voice but I'll take good english over foreign dialects of my language. But is that too much to ask? Oh and I hate the computer customer support bullsh*t. That really grinds my gears.
I agree, there's nothing better than good customer support.
I'm glad to know Buck as good customer support. I just bought my first knife ever: a Buck Bantam medium size. Nothing too expensive but I suspect it will be a great knife (I haven't got it yet).
I usually praise companies for their customer support when it's good, too. Hewelett-Packard (spelling?) has treated me very nicely, giving me a very nice new laptop after they tried repairing mine a few times and the problem persisted.
THANK YOU Nutin your videos are beyond great please send me your address for i feel i should send you some cash for the great info i have gained from you
Love this video nutn.. I agree will you 100%, the manufacturers should not only fix the issue but more than make up for it... Great job Buck!! I have been a fan of Buck for a long time, but now that I seen you do the right thing yet again.... I'm a bigger fan!
Well Done Nutn this video is shortened down to 6 mins wich is good because it's short and simple well done also the SEE YA at the end made it cooler and less serious
Right On Buck! Man, Buck knives were a part of my old EDC for 20 years or more. Bikers carry one on their belt (110 folding hunter) in various custom shapes. But almost always, a Buck for a biker.
WE STOPPED CUSTOMS Pocket Knife Grab! The President signed into law the FY2010 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill on October 28, 2009, protecting our pocket knives. The bill included our amendment to the Federal Switchblade Act that clearly exempts assisted and one-hand opening knives.
the company that makes smith & wesson knives has good cs too, but they dont offer extra savings or anything like that, but they do replace damaged blades no questions asked...
girlfriend just gave me this knife for Christmas, initial opinion is.... I LOVE IT! It also the first new knife I've ever between given as a gift, and thanks to nutn i'm probably gonna be spending money on more lol

Damnit, sold out everywhere(including youcornerstore. com) except eBay!!
wallmartkiller 2 years ago 3
Yup, you can blame Nutn for that.
Sometimes, I think he's the greatest asset of the knife/gun/tactical gear industry ^^
When he spots a good product it's gone in no time - 50k subscribers sure do have an impact.
jake262144 2 years ago
Getting it on eBay for $45+5 s/h.

Pro? Good for you bro. Just don't post until you've clicked "buy now" :)

Great vid as always Nut'n.
Does anyone know where I can find this knife in Australia (preferably WA)? Would be much appreciated
brigadierbond 2 years ago
@brigadierbond dont they have wal marts in australia?..lol...just order it from buck website prolly
arkee71 2 years ago
Unfortunatly we don't have the luxury of Walmart in Australia, nor does it seem the option to purchase from Buck website.
Thanks for your help anyway though mate, much appreciated.
brigadierbond 2 years ago

why would I need a knife like that?
pete5668 2 years ago
Dunno. Why would you need it? Not for opening boxes and other things, cutting stuff, peeling apples, not good as emergency tools at all. Ya know guys, he got me convinced: knives r useless. I'm throwing away mine ^^
...not!

I don't know if I want the Pro or the regular in 440HC.
Is this clip reversible?
That is awesome that Buck really values their customers and the quality.
Awesome video Nutnfancy, thanks again for a great review.
Forgoten214 2 years ago
clip is reversible, if you get the pro, and flip the clip around, it will cover up the inlaid buck logo. i love the pro, the g10 looks awesome, and the s30v steel is GREAT

Go to a gunshop and see which one fits better in your hands. If you have smaller hands, maybe 19 will fit you better.

Hey Nutn, why do you prefer tip up when the blade is in your pocket? I think you mentioned it in a vid, but I can't remember which one.
micahburnside 2 years ago
It's a matter of how you carry your knife and where you carry it, broham. You position it either tip-up or tip-down to minimize unnecessary movement during deployment.
jake262144 2 years ago
right, what are the advantages though? I've found tip down the best for me because it's ready for deployment once my hand is on the handle.
micahburnside 2 years ago
There are NO advantges of one method over the other per se.
The goal is to adjust your carry mode to maximize deployment speed and reliability. Up/Down just depends on the pocket you're using, whether you do straight- or cross-draw, etc.
jake262144 2 years ago
what is your system?
micahburnside 2 years ago
Dude, it doesn't matter what my system is. It is of no avail to you that Nutnfancy does tip-up carry. Just give both systems a try - carry the knife for a coupla days, practice deploying the blade a lot and you'll get a good idea what's best for you.
Not to leave your question unanswered, I carry a Centofante3 tip-up in my right butt pocket. When I first bought that knife 7 years ago or so I did tip-down, it is only later that I found tp-up worked better for me. Awesome blade!
jake262144 2 years ago
Tell you what nutn, one thing about Buck knives also is they last. My dad has my grandfathers old buck knife. Thing is so old that Granddad had to put a new handle on it, and it's old. I'd day it's at least 50-60 years old. THey do make a very good quality knife, especially for the money.

what handgun do you recommend for a person who is buying one the first time?

glock. he will say the same

I say Glock. Even if it wasn't the first gun. My favorite.

Glock
gungadin777 2 years ago
For first time gun it's Glock or S&W M&P. Can't go wrong with either.
SteelHex 2 years ago
depends what your using it for. a glock isnt always the best answer. if it's just a plinker, i would definitely go .22. if it's just for home defense, i would say a 12 gauge. i think that the more experienced guys would say 'go to the gun shop and see what fits you the best, not what i like'

The Ruger Mark II stainless steel bull barrel .22 semi-auto pistol. You can shoot it all day for a few bucks...it's pretty accurate to 75 yards....and in a crisis...it can go brainless and dump the mag in 1.7 seconds.

My first locking folder was a Buck Hunter 110....and that knife was a treasured friend for years. One day I snapped that blade(the pry bar effect)....so I called Buck. RMS'ed...fixed...and returned in 7 days. They sent me a fresh sheath, too. All for free. I'm now a life long customer
sneakerset 2 years ago 3
"Vendor issues regarding the interior components of the knives." ?? WTF does that mean? How does a vendor affect ANY component of the knife?
crawfish069 2 years ago
Buck meant vendors providing them with knife components (washers etc...). Just typical corporate bs, don't worry about it. The important stuff is that the customer service works.
jake262144 2 years ago
Our family has run a small business for 30 years. We strive (and succeed) at having a low error rate, but my father always taught me that it's how a company responds when they make an error which shows what kind of company they really are. It is an absolute pleasure to do business with companies like that.
mbrowns72 2 years ago 2
my largest problem with customer service is when you have an immediate problem and when you call them up it is a man in India speaking with a first grade understanding of english. I have nothing against India but I want to talk to someone in America where the company is based. Preferably someone with a sexy voice but I'll take good english over foreign dialects of my language. But is that too much to ask? Oh and I hate the computer customer support bullsh*t. That really grinds my gears.
salvationMcBadass 2 years ago 3
I agree, there's nothing better than good customer support.
I'm glad to know Buck as good customer support. I just bought my first knife ever: a Buck Bantam medium size. Nothing too expensive but I suspect it will be a great knife (I haven't got it yet).
I usually praise companies for their customer support when it's good, too. Hewelett-Packard (spelling?) has treated me very nicely, giving me a very nice new laptop after they tried repairing mine a few times and the problem persisted.

Right On Buck! Man, Buck knives were a part of my old EDC for 20 years or more. Bikers carry one on their belt (110 folding hunter) in various custom shapes. But almost always, a Buck for a biker.

Knife Rights News Slice - WE DID IT!
