thanks to uploader. i have been into kyuss and queens of the stone age for about 10 years now and have been dying to see what these generator parties were like. this is the most amazing kyuss video ever.
Thanks buddy for this rare footage! It was the music I adored since I´ve been in school - the 90ies were in some way (concerning some few bands like Kyuss) a really weird though good time! Keep the spirit alive! Desert Rock 4 life!
Here we see a musical video with horrible sound, yet the feelings it invokes to all of us are unfathomable. It's magically shown how music imposes on the human psyche. Apart from music's "audible" part there are tons of other mystical processes that seed our souls. Big ups to kyuss.
@DOOMERSANDSKULLS I really wonder if people will recognise it in the far future as one of rock's defining, crucial moments... or will it be just a few of us that will remember this?
@bloodySunday77 yea, i hear you man... Kyuss isn't just a band, it's a bliss, a wave of positive energie that enters our souls and let us dream, its a chame that only a few of us, guys like you, me and all the other true Kyuss fans all over the world, recognise it. I'm from portugal and Kyuss Lives! will be in portugal June 21st, it won't be the same has it was on the Kyuss era, but its a unique oportunity to witness most of the energie Kyuss transmits. Thanks dude, great video!
I'm too young and far away to have been able to experience this. I can't even imagine the awesomeness of being there in person. We all grew up in our small scenes of uniqueness and this is great documentation of yours. So seriously thanks for sharing.

@bloodySunday77 Not to disagree with someone who's performed such a great public service as posting this clip for us (thanks man!). But. :-) The best rock and roll shows I have seen in my life have almost invariable been mid-sized to small shows with a group of hardcore fans. I would take Kyuss and 100 fans in the desert over Woodstock, ANY DAY. I would be buying the ticket right now.
that would have been so much fun!! cant wait to see kyuss lives in may, sydney Australia :) also does anyone know what an original sons of kyuss lp in mint condition is worth??
@77blacktrip That's a good question, but I would keep it... You can Google Popsike, it's a nice site for that. I saw that an early Tool picture vinyl that I have is actually worth something like 350 euros!
Greetings from Joshua Tree...... Kyuss Fans: The info. was leaked so I'm now allowed to announce that" Kyuss Lives" will be recording a new studio album once they've finished touring and recording their solo projects.
"Our rehearsals are going so well that we're thinking of doing another record," said John Garcia." Brant, Nick and myself have have collectively agreed that once everything is done live and we're done with our solo projects, we're going to do another record."
@bloodySunday77..That would be Belgian guitarist Bruno Fevery. He played with John for "Garcia Plays Kyuss" and is the guitarist for Belgian band "Arsenal" John provided volcals on the track "Diggin A Hole" on the "Lotuk" album
@chiefdavidOK A, ok. I've seen him with Garcia Plays Kyuss and Arsenal, too. He can't touch Homme though, and he missed some guitar parts when I saw him with Garcia.
@chiefdavidOK "I have nothing bad to say about Josh,"."He's extremely intelligent, very smart, a great guitar player, songwriter, vocalist. He is a bad ass, there is no question, and I love him dearly. But he is busy with his own thing." [Besides TCV & QOTSA,demands as a producer, a father, a businessman] "Even if we asked him to [record with Kyuss], I don't think he'd say yes, so I don't want to set myself up for a big fat no, which is 99.9 percent what he would say." - John, earlier this week-
@TheElAlbino Yes, Kyuss without Josh is a sad thought but for those that did not know of Kyuss or have a chance to see them live it will be the next best thing. Also it will expose the younger generations to "The Desert's Rock Band.............KYUSS"
@bloody Sunday77 yeah , Reeder has an groove like nobody else. But still , i can't wait to see them at brussels. I think it's going to be even beter than garcia playse kyuss! (wich was already mindblowing)
@frigomann Yes, that's him... I wish it was Reeder playing on the coming tour with Garcia nd Bjork instead of Oliveri... I like Oliveri, the best era of Queens was with him, but Reeder has a groove that just kills him.
@bloodySunday77 yeah , Reeder has an groove like nobody else. But still , i can't wait to see them at brussels. I think it's going to be even beter than garcia playse kyuss! (wich was already mindblowing)
@savvas350 They are not exactly Kyuss, but as close to the real thing as we'll have the chance to see them... I'm seeing them too in March, tickets were sold out within one day! (Geia sou Savva!)
@kessmeister It's not a reunion, it's just a tour and nothing more. I've got 2 tickets already but if you have the chance to see them, get yours soon because they are getting sold within hours.
i would love it kyuss just did a one time reunion tour for kicks don't really need a new album as it will probably never live up to what kyuss used to be now that homme chaged so much
@bigsamy3 Well thanks, but I didn't say that exactly - or in any case I didn't mean it this way. Homme writes fantastic music that's original, inventive, addictive, out of the ordinary, recorded and produced in an excellent way. His concerts, either with Queens or the Vultures, are great too. But in a weird way he is also getting more mainstream nowadays, which is something he used to hate in the past.
That's one of the reasons why Kyuss remain a legend, and he also says that. Sadly, I am happy that they won't ruin it with a reunion. Although I will probably go crazy if they decide to do it, even for one tour.
...but you see, I don't care about their names, but only about their music. Why don't Garcia, Homme, Bjork and Reeder just gather and record an album with false names? Imagine that...
I think QOTSA are just getting naturally bigger. There is no way in hell that Era Vulgaris is a mainstream rock album, which is the direction he's said to be heading towards with the next album
@XXjConXX Dear Lord, even MORE mainstream? Jeez. I hope the Them Crooked Vultures experience gives him a few ideas that work better, otherwise I don't see a very bright future for QOTSA. :-(
I disagree about QOTSA, but everyone's different! At any rate, thanks for uploading this.. it's awesome. Until now I could only imagine these generator parties.
@kramttip No, it's absolutely not. Take a look at previous comments. Not even a possibility, I'm afraid. It's Bjork. Moreover, it was probably the only Kyuss show he did after he cut his hair.
I was just looking on google maps... and there is a place near palm sprigs called whitewater. could this possibly be anything to do with this ledgendary song?
if i'd get too see one gig from the past, it would be one of kyuss' generator parties. Screw Hendrix, Zeppelin, early Sabbath, The Who and every other old classic that i love so much and i would sell my soul to see them, but this is just something else.
@stratmaniac That's true... although there is a number of classic shows of the 50s, 60s and 70s I would have given everything to be there... Woodstock, Newport at '65, early Floyd after Barett and before the Wall, Isle of Wight at 1970, Reading at 1992...
ok i'm fairly sure this show was filmed at what we used to call the nudist colony...i lived about a mile from there till a couple yrs ago. used to be lots of shows there...back when a band called UNSOUND was popular in the desert.
i saw kyuss when they were SONS OF kyuss, in one of those PD backyard parties (but they had to play inside).
@mobiusstrip01 If you look at other videos, it seems this took take place at a big empty space, with lights in the distance (far, something like miles away)...
@bloodySunday77 -if you take hwy 62 to pierson, take that till it ends...then take the dirt rd for something like a mile plus or two...then you're there. it's a good ways off the hwy. ppl missed an obvious spot complete with a full size stage at this old closeddown waterpark (cloverleaf waterpark)...but the colony was uberpopular. one road in, one road out. nowhere near civilzation--and it was not an actual active colony.
@mobiusstrip01 Thanks a lot for this... I will really try going there when I visit these parts. It will also be useful to other people that also want to make their little pilgrimage to the Kyuss desert sites...
@bloodySunday77 no prob. i was thinking about it...and there's a chance it was ONE other spot i can think of...just this random spot a bit south of the I-10 in palm desert. funny, 'cause now it's been built up...a freaking COLLEGE of all things, right on cook street, where there didn't used to be ANYTHING. but i still suspect that show was at the nudist colony.
@yovioleatuzorramadre Maybe, but that's not the point when you're commenting on a Kyuss video, is it? Anyway, you're right but at the time the video was shot there were no albums of RHCP besides all the ones up to Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Everything else until today has been poor, but up to that I must say they were really amazing.
It's a shame Brant and Josh don't play music together anymore. I understand that they both want to have their own thing, but nothing they've done separately comes even close to what they used to do together. They're like the Lennon-McCartney of stoner rock.
@xTheOxx That's a nice way of looking at it... although Brant is more oriented towards the same cliches, and Josh broke free. He was determined to, and that was precisely why Kyuss broke up - he felt bound to them and the whole punk rock ethic.
@xTheOxx I don't know what would happen if they still played together... maybe Brant would pull Josh more towards the desert side and Josh pull Brant more towards the experimental groovy side of rock. They both seem desperately in need for something like that to happen, because their music (individually, not in Vultures, for example) needs that spice to become great again. I've seen both lately and... they don't match up to what they were.
@saintsaji I mean that it was never released officially, plus when I uploaded it no one had anything similar to it, and most people never even knew such a thing existed. I found out myself around 7 years ago.
@venom3114 Well, you can see it was very windy. He doesn't drown out everything completely. Besides, any kind of camera whatsoever in any concert, no matter if it was windy or not, would not be able to give a good result soundwise - that's why they always take their audio feed from the mixing desk.
@SquirrelRangler Very true... devotion, passion, dedication... I bet even people who haven't got the slightest idea about drumming would just sit and watch him play in awe...
I've never seen him or kyus or qotsa, so i'm going to that show no matter what. I would like to experience at least this little piece of kyuss, it would probably be the last one in my life, this is the most i can do.
Garcia starts a tour with a band playing Kyuss songs... I don't know how to feel about this yet, although I've seen him with Hermano performing Green Machine and Gardenia, and QOTSA 12 years ago play 2 or 3 Kyuss songs themselves.
I already have tickets, and in the town where I live they were gone so quickly that the promoters organized a second show on the same day (at 4 o'clock in the afternoon!!!!)
I'm going to see the show, i don't care, this would probably be my last and first experience with one little piece of kyuss. Garcia is amazing, i love his voice.
Yes, he is great... what an amazing voice. As for a Kyuss reunion, even though I would give anything to see them with their classic and best lineup (Garcia, Homme, Bjork, Reeder), I think it would be something like performing sacrilege on a legend. It wouldn't be right. Just not the same in any way. Very few people knew them then.
Do you mean Garcia's band? They will start touring under the name "Garcia sings Kyuss" or "Garcia plays Kyuss", something like that. At least that's what my ticket says.
I'm sorry, I planned on pasting a personnel experience of mine about Kyuss, but it's too long for a text comment. I will have a video response prepared within a week. Kyuss fans are the best around.
Kyuss are... everything... why can't everyone recognise this band for what they were, whether critics like it or not they were fucking revolutionary
@ Gorrrz agreed mate, this would have been the story of my life if i'd have died here - "Hey Peter, I just saw Kyuss live in the desert!" - saint peter - "Yeah righto mate, don;t rub it in"
Yes, he is... if you have the patience to read through the comments, somebody says if I remember correctly - I don't know if it's true - that this was his last show with Kyuss, and that he cut his hair just before it (maybe to mark this big decision in his life? who knows...)
theres a fairly recent interview of the members of kyuss where brant talks about how he shaved his head and moved to the desert and stopped doin drugs and whatnot shortly before he quit kyuss so it might be true.
I remember reading somewhere that he is just keeping it for old times sake, but he is not touring with it since something like 2004 because it has suffered too much from the life on the road.
i have to agree with what bloodySunday77 says...each new album is more mediocre, especially Them crooked vulters sound a bit plastic to me. OK some will say progressing to a new level, but they won't see me at their concerts. Kyuss was a great band and Oliveri still does an amazing job with Mondo generator...Josh Homme experience is a nice way of putting it. I think Josh somewhat lost track along the way
Love the video but I have to disagree with you bloodysunday I think that QOTSA nowadays are still kicking ass. I'll admit that i miss oliveri in the band. But Era Vulgaris was one of the more different albums that QOTSA ever did and I really thought the album had some cool moments. Nothing quite as epic as Songs for the Deaf. But shit better than most albums that came this way in 2007. I wouldn't call it mediocre.
Cool!!

@kramttip I was at this gig, its without a doubt Bjork.
chiefdavidOK 1 year ago
@chiefdavidOK yep, he just had short hair back then.

when was this video taken?
arsenalles 1 year ago
@arsenalles I think around '93. Probably Bjork's last show with Kyuss.
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
I was just looking on google maps... and there is a place near palm sprigs called whitewater. could this possibly be anything to do with this ledgendary song?
FrayedInstitution 1 year ago
@FrayedInstitution Yes, of course it does! Garcia also mentions it when they play this song in the tour he is currently on.

if i'd get too see one gig from the past, it would be one of kyuss' generator parties. Screw Hendrix, Zeppelin, early Sabbath, The Who and every other old classic that i love so much and i would sell my soul to see them, but this is just something else.
stratmaniac 1 year ago
@stratmaniac That's true... although there is a number of classic shows of the 50s, 60s and 70s I would have given everything to be there... Woodstock, Newport at '65, early Floyd after Barett and before the Wall, Isle of Wight at 1970, Reading at 1992...
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
@bloodySunday77 true, and i'd still sell my soul to see them, just after i sold my heart to see this:D
stratmaniac 1 year ago
ok i'm fairly sure this show was filmed at what we used to call the nudist colony...i lived about a mile from there till a couple yrs ago. used to be lots of shows there...back when a band called UNSOUND was popular in the desert.
i saw kyuss when they were SONS OF kyuss, in one of those PD backyard parties (but they had to play inside).
mobiusstrip01 1 year ago
@mobiusstrip01 If you look at other videos, it seems this took take place at a big empty space, with lights in the distance (far, something like miles away)...
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
@bloodySunday77 -if you take hwy 62 to pierson, take that till it ends...then take the dirt rd for something like a mile plus or two...then you're there. it's a good ways off the hwy. ppl missed an obvious spot complete with a full size stage at this old closeddown waterpark (cloverleaf waterpark)...but the colony was uberpopular. one road in, one road out. nowhere near civilzation--and it was not an actual active colony.
mobiusstrip01 1 year ago 2
@mobiusstrip01 Thanks a lot for this... I will really try going there when I visit these parts. It will also be useful to other people that also want to make their little pilgrimage to the Kyuss desert sites...
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
@bloodySunday77 no prob. i was thinking about it...and there's a chance it was ONE other spot i can think of...just this random spot a bit south of the I-10 in palm desert. funny, 'cause now it's been built up...a freaking COLLEGE of all things, right on cook street, where there didn't used to be ANYTHING. but i still suspect that show was at the nudist colony.

Brant's drumming is insane.
Add the the rat-stache and cheecky smile and you got yourself a splendid drummer.

This video is (despite the not so good sound quality) AWESOME!!!
Kyuss have gave me some moments to remember...
I am not a Rock genre dedicated fan , I like all good music and Kyuss is on my top list...
it s a universal thing or something .... I don't know.

Kyuss was/is awesome. However, QOTSA doesn't interest me in the least... I WANTED to like em, just because it was Josh, but can't... *shrug*

yovioleatuzorramadre 1 year ago
@yovioleatuzorramadre Maybe, but that's not the point when you're commenting on a Kyuss video, is it? Anyway, you're right but at the time the video was shot there were no albums of RHCP besides all the ones up to Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Everything else until today has been poor, but up to that I must say they were really amazing.

It's a shame Brant and Josh don't play music together anymore. I understand that they both want to have their own thing, but nothing they've done separately comes even close to what they used to do together. They're like the Lennon-McCartney of stoner rock.
xTheOxx 1 year ago 2
@xTheOxx That's a nice way of looking at it... although Brant is more oriented towards the same cliches, and Josh broke free. He was determined to, and that was precisely why Kyuss broke up - he felt bound to them and the whole punk rock ethic.
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
@xTheOxx I don't know what would happen if they still played together... maybe Brant would pull Josh more towards the desert side and Josh pull Brant more towards the experimental groovy side of rock. They both seem desperately in need for something like that to happen, because their music (individually, not in Vultures, for example) needs that spice to become great again. I've seen both lately and... they don't match up to what they were.

saintsaji 1 year ago
@saintsaji But it's nothing rare... this and at least 12 other Kyuss shows have been available online (in torrents etc) at least since 2000...
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
@bloodySunday77 then why do you say " Rare Footage " in your description?
saintsaji 1 year ago
@saintsaji I mean that it was never released officially, plus when I uploaded it no one had anything similar to it, and most people never even knew such a thing existed. I found out myself around 7 years ago.
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
it is bitter sweet that Brant's drumming kind of drowns out everything else, but you gotta remember this was filmed on a shitty camera.
venom3114 1 year ago
@venom3114 Well, you can see it was very windy. He doesn't drown out everything completely. Besides, any kind of camera whatsoever in any concert, no matter if it was windy or not, would not be able to give a good result soundwise - that's why they always take their audio feed from the mixing desk.
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
I love watching Brant play the drums. You can't fake that kind of enthusiasm.
SquirrelRangler 1 year ago
@SquirrelRangler Very true... devotion, passion, dedication... I bet even people who haven't got the slightest idea about drumming would just sit and watch him play in awe...

I've never seen him or kyus or qotsa, so i'm going to that show no matter what. I would like to experience at least this little piece of kyuss, it would probably be the last one in my life, this is the most i can do.
Rojc1234 1 year ago
Damn i'm gonna start crying. Kyuss are everything.
Rojc1234 1 year ago 3
Garcia starts a tour with a band playing Kyuss songs... I don't know how to feel about this yet, although I've seen him with Hermano performing Green Machine and Gardenia, and QOTSA 12 years ago play 2 or 3 Kyuss songs themselves.
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
I already have tickets, and in the town where I live they were gone so quickly that the promoters organized a second show on the same day (at 4 o'clock in the afternoon!!!!)
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
I'm going to see the show, i don't care, this would probably be my last and first experience with one little piece of kyuss. Garcia is amazing, i love his voice.
Rojc1234 1 year ago
Yes, he is great... what an amazing voice. As for a Kyuss reunion, even though I would give anything to see them with their classic and best lineup (Garcia, Homme, Bjork, Reeder), I think it would be something like performing sacrilege on a legend. It wouldn't be right. Just not the same in any way. Very few people knew them then.
bloodySunday77 1 year ago
whats the band called?
Kurvstol 1 year ago
Do you mean Garcia's band? They will start touring under the name "Garcia sings Kyuss" or "Garcia plays Kyuss", something like that. At least that's what my ticket says.

is that Brant Bjork with small hair?!
theldr 2 years ago
Yes, he is... if you have the patience to read through the comments, somebody says if I remember correctly - I don't know if it's true - that this was his last show with Kyuss, and that he cut his hair just before it (maybe to mark this big decision in his life? who knows...)
bloodySunday77 2 years ago
theres a fairly recent interview of the members of kyuss where brant talks about how he shaved his head and moved to the desert and stopped doin drugs and whatnot shortly before he quit kyuss so it might be true.
fuzzyshan 2 years ago
I really dig how Josh's Ovation guitar has lived through from his very start all the way to his present success.
hezzart 2 years ago
I remember reading somewhere that he is just keeping it for old times sake, but he is not touring with it since something like 2004 because it has suffered too much from the life on the road.
bloodySunday77 2 years ago
He didn't have it since their very first steps as a band, but only around Blues For The Red Sun (what an absolutely amazing album title that is...)
bloodySunday77 2 years ago

i have to agree with what bloodySunday77 says...each new album is more mediocre, especially Them crooked vulters sound a bit plastic to me. OK some will say progressing to a new level, but they won't see me at their concerts. Kyuss was a great band and Oliveri still does an amazing job with Mondo generator...Josh Homme experience is a nice way of putting it. I think Josh somewhat lost track along the way
gwerej 2 years ago
that is so cool ive never seen anything like this
GianTheMan91 2 years ago 2
Love the video but I have to disagree with you bloodysunday I think that QOTSA nowadays are still kicking ass. I'll admit that i miss oliveri in the band. But Era Vulgaris was one of the more different albums that QOTSA ever did and I really thought the album had some cool moments. Nothing quite as epic as Songs for the Deaf. But shit better than most albums that came this way in 2007. I wouldn't call it mediocre.
